Background

Shen He was an ordinary modern-day gamer whose attachment to fictional characters and gacha games stemmed from loneliness, emptiness, and dissatisfaction with his repetitive working life. He enjoyed cooking at home rather than going out and had never handled a gun before entering the Marvel Universe. 1 11 23

He transmigrated to Manhattan and immediately recognized the setting as the Marvel Universe after seeing Tony Stark on a Senate-hearing broadcast. A mechanical voice then activated the Servant Summoning System in his mind. Though disturbed by the possibility that someone had arranged his arrival, Shen He chose to accept his circumstances and pursue a more extraordinary life. 2

His first advanced ten-pull produced Saiki Kusuo, a five-star Servant who initially rejected the summon. Shen He won Saiki over by using his knowledge of Saiki’s desires and the system’s suppression of Saiki’s powers, beginning a partnership that made early dungeon exploration possible. 3 8

When confronted by S.H.I.E.L.D., Shen He introduced himself as a Master from Chaldea and described Saiki as his Servant. He later expanded this cover identity into the “Human Order Preservation Foundation,” presenting Chaldea as an organization that observes humanity and intervenes to avert unfavorable futures. 9 22

Personality

Shen He is adaptable, excitable, and deeply drawn to the fantasy that his former life lacked. He treats summoning with the superstition and emotional investment of a dedicated gacha player, performing rituals such as repeated washing, dressing carefully, and praying before major draws. 3 29 43

Despite his playful behavior and initial wish to live comfortably, Shen He becomes increasingly aware of the responsibility attached to being a Master. He recognizes his Servants as people rather than disposable tools, worries especially about Saiki’s reluctance to kill, and accepts dangerous work because he wants to become strong enough to meet their expectations. 32 35
