Background

Avet is a descendant of Montezuma I. His mother, Atotoztli II, inherited her father’s position as tribal leader as well as part of his wealth and military force; Avet later inherited her divine staff and family warriors. He is also the brother of King Tizoc. 21 84

Before becoming king, Avet had controlled the royal intelligence and guard departments. He fought as a senior Mexica commander during the Otomi campaign, where he began acting as Xolotl’s teacher and political mentor. 18 21
