Background

The body Isolde occupies originally belonged to Duke Valen Sylvain’s adopted daughter. Valen adopted the original Isolde at fourteen; rather than escaping his influence, she revered his corpse-based arts, lured victims into Crowcandle Castle, and used their souls in Puppet experiments. Lia was one of her creations. 1

Isolde’s soul is associated with Yu Lingye, a woman who was exploited by Zheng Chuan, Meng Yinyin, and Luo Qi in her previous life. They forced her into lethal work in the Rust Mines, punished her escape attempt, and placed a slave-control curse on her wrist that stripped away even her ability to end her own life. 5

After awakening in Isolde’s body, she inherited the original owner’s forbidden knowledge but rejected her values. She concealed her disgust behind a performance of fanatical devotion to Valen, identified the Silver Core in his spine as his weakness, and began preparing to turn his Blood Feast against him. 2 4

A surviving echo of the original Isolde remains within her soul as a hidden anchor. Isolde later confronts the existence of Yu Lingye within Witch’s Mask and accepts that Yu Lingye and Isolde are not mutually exclusive identities. 14 26 39

Appearance

Isolde is a pale, gaunt young woman with exceptionally refined features and waist-length black hair. Her naturally gloomy expression and fragile appearance make her particularly convincing as a helpless noble victim. 1

  • Pale skin and a sickly, delicate bearing. 1
  • Long black hair falling to her waist. 1
  • A persistent gloom around her brows and eyes. 1
  • Frequently uses a white dress to impersonate an imprisoned noblewoman and lure targets into the castle. 2 5
  • After inheriting the castle, her white dress transforms into an elegant black gown with a veil and sharpened nails. 11

Personality

Isolde is calculating, observant, and intensely survival-oriented. Her early lack of combat ability forces her to rely on deception, spell analysis, preparation, and the exploitation of enemies’ greed or assumptions. She prefers making opponents weaken, betray, or destroy one another rather than confronting them directly. 3 4 58

Her former life left her deeply distrustful of sympathy and group loyalty. She recognizes emotional manipulation quickly, especially when Zheng Chuan’s group attempts to present themselves as rescuers after using her as a tool. 5 7 11

Despite her ruthlessness, Isolde is not indifferent to suffering. She refuses to dismantle the Moon-Crowned Unicorn after experiencing its memories, instead negotiating a mutually beneficial revenge pact. Her concern for Lia also grows from viewing her as useful survival equipment to wanting her to develop an identity of her own. 23 59 62

She has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, particularly when assessing her own poor physical strength, Valen’s failures, or Ullr’s predatory business practices. 3 14 22

Abilities & Skills

Soul-Binding Thread

Isolde’s foundational active skill creates fine soul threads for binding, cutting, spell interruption, and battlefield control. Its effectiveness improves against weakened, frightened, corrupted, or otherwise unstable targets. 4 10

  • Temporarily restrains targets and interrupts spellcasting. 4
  • Bound Valen for three seconds after his weakened and corrupted state doubled the skill’s duration. 10
  • Can cut through armor gaps, silence targets, manipulate weapons, and form battlefield traps. 35
  • Serves as the base for later reconstructed techniques. 15 58

Witch’s Mask

Originally an acting-based passive, Witch’s Mask evolves into Isolde’s principal concealment ability after she becomes the castle’s master. 3 15

  • Reduces the vigilance of targets with lower Intelligence by 60% in its original form. 3
  • Can assume the appearance and class of identities she has devoured. 15
  • Conceals her original attributes, faction, and BOSS title from lower-Intelligence investigators. 15
  • Allows disguised identities to cultivate skills, though they cannot use skills above Advanced rank. 15
  • Was used to disguise herself as Yu Lingye, a wandering mage, and the mercenary Rena. 26 69
  • Can be shared with Moon to disguise the Moon-Crowned Unicorn as an ordinary black horse. 66

Strangulation

An exclusive soul-damaging skill generated after Isolde absorbs Valen’s Silver Core. 11

  • Deals increased soul damage to afflicted, frightened, or weakened targets. 11 35
  • Can execute targets below 20% health. 11
  • Was used to kill the Silver Robe Inquisitor by collapsing his soul. 44

Thread Reconstruction and Weaponization

Isolde continually modifies skills through inherited Soul Stitcher knowledge and her own experimentation.

  • Truth Mastery condenses Soul Threads into weapons, including a silver longsword. 42 58
  • Mana-Conducting Thread lets her threads transmit magical effects and skill structures more efficiently. 58 61
  • Afterglow Spike combines Purifying Light, Weakness Mark, and Mana-Conducting Thread into a penetrating light attack effective against contaminated, undead, and decayed targets. 61
  • Shattered Blade Scatter fires a wide spread of small blades that can be partly guided through Mana-Conducting Thread. 123
  • Mana-Thread Stitching allows her to repair and reinforce clothing or armor with mana channels. 123

Light and Detection Magic

Isolde acquires several universal or analyzed light-based abilities while maintaining her Evil Affinity.

  • Purifying Light was learned by observing Meng Yinyin and later raised from Beginner to Intermediate proficiency. 7 8
  • Weakness Mark briefly reveals an enemy’s weakness, including Valen’s Silver Core and the Silver Robe’s horn-core focus. 7 42
  • Inverted Radiance Shadowfold balances conflicting affinities and improves concealment against detection magic. 36
  • Sanctity Tolerance reduces Sanctity damage by 30% and mitigates affinity conflict with light-based skills. 61
  • She has obtained Daystar but postpones learning it because her current light affinity cannot safely withstand its backlash. 58 61

Castle Authority

As Crowcandle Castle’s master, Isolde can use the castle itself as a surveillance network, defensive domain, and rule-based weapon. 15

  • Senses activity within and around the castle through portraits and Faceless Attendants. 15
  • Alters the castle’s structure and invites residents it will accept unconditionally. 15
  • Uses Banquet Adjudication to summon marked guests into a special banquet field and impose a rule upon them. 11 12
  • Uses Blood Feast Substitute to transfer fatal damage to a guest marked by the Blood Feast. 11
  • The castle’s Home-Field Advantage can unlock additional skills. 15 18
  • Later upgrades grant Gray-Mist Alert, Portrait Patrol, Guard Coordination, and Blood Feast Pre-Marking. 62

Death-Speech Disassembly

Unlocked after Valen’s remains are fully dismantled, this ability analyzes recently deceased targets at the cost of half of Isolde’s mana. 18

  • Extracts basic skill frameworks and attribute fragments rather than complete skills. 18
  • Extracted Suppression from the dead Silver Robe Inquisitor’s Divine Punishment Domain. 45
  • Obtained Sanctity and Radiance-Attribute Fragments for future resistance, disguise, and light-magic development. 45
  • Later extracts and completes the Shadowstep framework using Shadow-Attribute Fragments. 85

Relationships

Story Role / Major Arcs

Crowcandle Castle and the Blood Feast

Isolde awakens in the identity of Valen’s adopted daughter and learns that the original Isolde was the castle’s “helpless noblewoman” lure. She turns this role against Valen by modifying the castle’s illusion array and redirecting Zheng Chuan’s group into the dungeon. 1 2 5

She uses the players to weaken Valen, secretly restrains him with Soul-Binding Thread, shatters her Main Contract through self-inflicted injury, and destroys his Silver Core. The castle then recognizes her as its new heir and dungeon BOSS. 8 10 11

Judgment of the Three “Heroes”

After Valen’s death, Isolde uses Banquet Adjudication to force Zheng Chuan, Meng Yinyin, and Luo Qi into a survival trial centered on sacrifice and betrayal. Their hidden preparations to deceive one another are later recovered from their loot after their deaths. 11 12 14

Moon-Crowned Unicorn’s Last Wish

Isolde inherits Valen’s unpaid contract for the corpse of a Moon-Crowned Unicorn. Instead of exploiting its remains, she accepts its request to pursue those responsible for its people’s persecution, becoming its Wish Executor. 21 23

Her investigation leads her to Grey Dove Monastery and the Moon-Crown Lock, where she discovers that the Holy Court created its “holy” relic from unicorn horn cores to suppress the victims’ resentment. 25 32 39

Grey Dove Monastery Raid

Disguised through Witch’s Mask, Isolde infiltrates Grey Dove Monastery, encounters Luo Jiuge, manipulates the monastery’s internal chaos, and reaches the Stillbone Prayer Room. 26 32 34

She defeats the Silver Robe Inquisitor, releases the imprisoned vengeful spirits, loots the Relic Chamber, and escapes with the damaged Moon-Crown Lock and a large stockpile of Holy Court resources. 44 45 46

Castle Development and Expansion

After returning to Crowcandle Castle, Isolde strengthens her defenses, refines her Soul Thread system, upgrades Lia’s Puppet Core, and develops the castle into a self-sustaining base. 55 61 62

She later begins traveling beyond the gray mist under false identities, investigating threats near Gray Oak Village and seeking revenge against former companions in Mistrest Forest. 65 66 69

Northern Old Trade Road

After recovering artifacts belonging to Elena Rosalind, Isolde discovers dormant management rights over the Northern Old Trade Road. She begins planning to repair the Old Waystation, reopen the road near Crowcandle Castle, and use House Rosalind’s documents as leverage in Red Kite City-State. 124 125

Trivia

  • Isolde privately calls Crowcandle Castle “Big Goldie” after recognizing its value as a home, fortress, workshop, and source of skills. 18
  • Her initial Strength was only 10, while Lia’s was 100; Isolde describes herself as weaker than a newly spawned roadside chick by comparison. 3
  • She views direct violence as inefficient when mistrust, greed, and factional conflict can be used to make enemies destroy one another. 58
