Background / History
Childhood and departure
Roxy grew up in a Migurdia village on the Demon Continent. Unlike the other villagers, she could not use their innate telepathy. At approximately four or five years old, she tried to join other children at play, mistook their silent communication for rejection, and cried that nobody would speak to her 227.
Rowin and Rokari learned Demon God Tongue specifically to communicate with their daughter. Their efforts could not remove the language barrier between Roxy and most of the village, leaving her isolated within her own community 227.
A traveling mage offered to teach her magic, which she pursued with exceptional concentration and talent. She eventually left to explore the world and find somewhere she could be useful. More than twenty years later, she had sent occasional messages home but had never returned 227.
Education and adventuring
Roxy graduated from Ranoa Magic University, specializing in offensive water magic. Her travels nevertheless exposed her to discrimination against Demonfolk, limiting her employment opportunities despite her Saint-level qualifications 49 108.
While in the Holy Country of Millis, prejudice against her hair color contributed to her becoming penniless. A fellow countryman took her in, and she worked at a tavern before forming an adventuring party with him and another woman. Roxy fell for him, but he and the other woman became a couple 158.
Appearance
- Build: Petite, fair-skinned, and youthful-looking. Roxy explains that Migurdia stop visibly growing at around fourteen; her appearance does not indicate that she is a child 49.
- Hair: Long, water-blue hair, usually arranged in two braids over her chest. It can appear slightly green in sunlight, a resemblance that makes her anxious about being mistaken for a Superd 49 134.
- Eyes: Water-blue and habitually half-lidded, giving her an aloof expression 49.
- Usual clothing: An old-fashioned mage’s robe with magical patterns, fitted long boots, and a broad wizard’s hat 49.
- Distinguishing mark: A mole beneath her arm, which Cui uses to check the accuracy of Rudeus’s figurine of her 354.
- Other clothing: Wears a simple white dress while accompanying Cui through Sharia 458.
Personality
Roxy is meticulous and conscientious about teaching. When Demon God Tongue textbooks prove difficult to obtain, she stays up late compiling letters, pronunciation rules, and greetings, then plans subsequent lessons around Cui’s progress. She also adjusts Rudeus’s schedule to separate evening theory lessons from daytime practical work 53 131.
Her professional integrity can become entangled with insecurity. She believes that remaining after she has nothing left to teach would exploit her employer’s generosity. This conviction contributes to repeated attempts to leave Cui, even though separation is painful for her 86 104 164.
Discrimination, her inability to use telepathy, and dissatisfaction with her youthful figure make magical achievement central to her self-worth. She is easily embarrassed by praise and romance, but her confidence grows when Buena Village values her everyday assistance rather than judging her race or appearance 88 91 141.
Her attachment to Cui also brings out a possessive side. She refuses to share Blue Stream Blade because she considers it a private gift belonging to the two of them, despite feeling guilty about withholding knowledge from her pupils. She is also notably fond of desserts: unlimited sweets settle her initial hesitation about accepting Cui’s unusually generous tutoring offer 51 163.
Abilities & Skills
Water Magic
- Water Ball: Gathers moisture and mana into a dense projectile. Her demonstration breaks a small tree in half 88.
- Lightning Cumulonimbus: A Water Saint-level spell that creates a violent thunderstorm. During a demonstration, lightning destroys both a sheltering tree and the Earth Wall protecting Cui and their horse 93.
- Rainfall: Advanced water magic used to end Buena Village’s drought and save its crops 140.
- Blue Stream Blade: Cui’s compressed, high-speed waterjet spell, assessed by Roxy as at least Water King-level in destructive effect. She adopts it as her strongest practical single-target attack 96 97 209.
- Limits: Blue Stream Blade cannot penetrate Orsted’s Dragon Saint Battle Aura; he disperses it into vapor and injures Roxy with his counterattack 209.
Magic-Model Theory and Silent Casting
- Learns to construct spells through an understanding of mana flow and physical processes rather than relying solely on memorized incantations 95.
- Uses Cui’s consensual mental guidance to sense and calibrate the construction of magic models 95.
- Ultimately casts Advanced offensive magic instantly without chanting, greatly improving her ability to respond in combat 95 483.
- Instant casting does not eliminate every limitation: large-area spells still require resources and time to produce their full effects 95.
Earth, Fire, Wind, and Healing Magic
- Earth: Creates defensive walls, reinforces foundations and campsites, levels terrain, and repairs irrigation ditches 89 141 199.
- Fire: Demonstrates Fireball and possesses Advanced-level offensive fire magic 49 89.
- Wind: Uses Gust, Whirlwind, and Wind Blade; dries firewood and separates harvested wheat from chaff 89 141 158.
- Healing: Possesses Intermediate-level healing magic. Demonstrates healing on a broken sapling and treats villagers’ injuries without charging 49 89 141.
- Mana limit: Her reserves are large for her rank but finite; she cannot demonstrate every spell she knows in one session 88.
Tracking and Search Magic
- Provides crucial Tracking Magic assistance during Alice’s kidnapping, earning House Boreas’s gratitude 75.
- The search spell used in that case requires clothing worn against the target’s skin and must be used within a day of the disappearance 406.
- Later researches a lost person-finding spell capable of bypassing distance and most interference, prompting her journey to the Teleportation Labyrinth 406.
- The recovered Person-Finding scroll requires a mental imprint of its target, preventing Cui from simply using it to locate Paul 454.
Teleportation Research
- Studies ancient spatial theory and discusses it with Cui before their separation 204.
- Develops expertise through years of research and obtains an ancient teleportation scroll in the Displacement Labyrinth 449.
- Analyzes a ruined circle as a possible fixed passage to another space, drawing power from the world rather than an individual caster 449.
- Meticulously copies runes and magical circuits for further study, and later teaches the practical potential of teleportation at Ranoa 453 483.
Teaching and Fieldwork
- Teaches Demon God Tongue, magical theory, spell construction, and magical history 53 131 134 146.
- Recognizes different learning needs: Rudeus requires stronger foundations despite his talent, while Sylphy has sensitive mana perception but struggles with abstract explanations 146.
- Supports the Great Migration by locating groundwater, preparing campsites, advising on routes, and drawing improved regional maps incorporating magical flow 199.
- Defeats nearly twenty attackers alone, including Liniana and Pursena 486.
Telepathy Limitation
- Cannot communicate through Migurdian telepathy, despite being born into the race 227.
- On returning home, perceives a child’s telepathic thanks only as unintelligible static 465.
- Spoken Demon God Tongue provides an alternative; her homecoming becomes easier after the village adopts spoken-language instruction 229 465.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Magic staff — Taller than Roxy, with a blue crystal at its tip; used in spell demonstrations and Rainfall 88 140.
- Teaching notebooks — Includes handwritten Demon God Tongue lesson materials and notes tailored to her pupils 53.

- Research tools — Carries a notebook, quill, paper, and specially made charcoal pencil for recording magical theory and circle designs 204 453.
Relationships
- Cui Ciyou — Initially her language pupil, later her magical collaborator and husband. His support helps her develop silent casting, continue teaching after marriage, and reconnect with her hometown 51 95 454 465 477.
- Rowin — Her father, who learned Demon God Tongue for her. Fiercely protective and hostile toward Cui’s courtship; Roxy later intervenes when he attacks Cui 224 227 464.
- Rokari — Her mother, who recounts Roxy’s childhood isolation with sorrow and welcomes news of her serious relationship with Cui 224 227.
- Rudeus Greyrat — Her private magic pupil. She teaches him through Water Saint-level graduation but withholds Blue Stream Blade because of its personal significance 113 160 163.
- Sylphy — Her second village pupil. Roxy patiently supports her learning; Sylphy later wishes to continue studying under her at Ranoa 146 158 457.
- Alice Boreas Greyrat — Initially the prospective pupil whose tutoring position Roxy seeks. Alice later envies Roxy’s popularity in Buena Village; both eventually marry Cui 49 141 463 477.
- Ghislaine Dedoldia — Fellow protector of Ariel after the Displacement Incident. Ghislaine remains behind when Roxy leaves to search for Cui 368 406.
- Princess Ariel — Roxy helps escort her from Ars to Ranoa during the Asura succession crisis 368 406.
- Elinalise — Travels with Roxy and Cui on Begaritt and teases the couple about their intimacy 449 454.
- Nokopara — Former adventuring teammate on the Demon Continent; later learns of Roxy’s marriage and King-level magic from Cui 542.
- The Human God — Claims to have given Roxy revelations about Cui’s origins. In the future counterpart’s account, his manipulation destroys their family and drives her lifelong effort to change events 221 553.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Meeting Cui and remaining at House Boreas
- Philip rejects Roxy’s application to teach Alice, explaining that the household does not intend to hire another tutor or prioritize magical education 50.
- Cui stops her departure and hires her to teach Demon God Tongue for one gold coin per month, room and meals, and unlimited desserts 51.
- After her Tracking Magic helps during Alice’s kidnapping, House Boreas invites her to stay. She accompanies the recovering Cui, changes his ointment, and carefully rewraps his bandages 75.
- Their practical magic lessons become collaborative research, leading to her silent casting and adoption of Blue Stream Blade 88 95 113.
Buena Village and growing attachment
- Roxy decides to leave when she believes her teaching role is finished. She exchanges gifts with Cui and privately regrets never confessing her feelings 104 105.
- Cui secures an Auxiliary Defense Knight appointment and accompanies her to Buena Village rather than accepting their separation 106 108.
- His endorsement of her King-level ability secures her position as Rudeus’s tutor without a further assessment 113.
- Rainfall saves the drought-stricken village. Her subsequent practical assistance earns her the title “Water Goddess” and a sense of belonging 140 141.
- After Rudeus graduates, she again packs to leave. Cui challenges both her claim to be a burden and her decision to abandon Sylphy’s unfinished instruction 163 164.
Migration, separation, and the search for Cui
- Roxy becomes a major logistical contributor to the Great Migration and is later celebrated as “Water Blade” 199 354.
- She attacks Orsted with Blue Stream Blade, but he defeats her effortlessly. The encounter leads to her separation from Cui 209 224.
- Following the Displacement Incident, she and Ghislaine help Ariel escape the royal capital and reach Ranoa 368.
- According to the Human God, she spends more than a year pursuing search and spatial magic, including forbidden texts, before entering an S-rank labyrinth on Begaritt alone 406.
- The Human God describes her impending death from exhaustion, but this is not her confirmed fate: Cui subsequently finds her, and they clear the Displacement Labyrinth and return safely 406 454.
Marriage, homecoming, and university teaching
- Roxy asks whether she may continue teaching after marriage; Cui explicitly supports her career 454 457.
- They travel to invite her parents to the wedding. Returning home revives her childhood anxiety, but she discovers that Cui’s earlier work has improved the village’s agriculture and introduced spoken-language education 462 464 465.
- After the wedding and a three-month honeymoon, she resumes teaching at Ranoa Magic University 477.
- As homeroom teacher for special-admission students, she maintains discipline, worries about Silent’s persistent absence, and teaches advanced subjects rather than elementary spells 483.
- Her race remains a barrier despite her achievements: Perugius’s prohibition against Demonfolk prevents her from accompanying Cui to meet him 524.
The future Roxy
A counterpart identifying herself as Roxy C. Migurdia arrives from one hundred years in the future. She kills a hidden rat carrying the pathogen associated with Magic Stone Disease, interrupting the contamination chain that would otherwise threaten present-day Roxy 553.
In her account, Roxy’s illness drives Cui to seek a God-level Healing Magic scroll in Millis. The Human God’s deception turns Cliff, Rudeus, and ultimately Orsted against him; Cui and other family members die. The surviving Roxy later learns the truth from the Human God and devotes the remainder of her life to magical research 553.
Her Time Magic combines teleportation and summoning and consumes every Magic Crystal stored by House Boreas. She suspects she has reached a parallel timeline rather than erased her own history, making her warning a chance to prevent another tragedy—not proof that her original future has been undone 553.
Trivia
- Blue Stream Blade’s spoken Chinese name, “Lán Xī Rèn,” carries an intimate association with Roxy’s name for her. This contributes to her refusal to teach it to anyone else 163.
- Rings do not ordinarily signify marriage in this world. Rudeus’s explanation of Earth’s left-ring-finger custom makes Roxy reconsider Cui’s farewell gift 104 138.
- Benedictine Kingdragon resembles Roxy because her mother is a pure-blooded Migurd; the resemblance does not establish a direct family relationship 340.
- Rudeus creates a lifelike, two-pose figurine of Roxy. Its missing underarm mole reassures Cui that it was not an entirely accurate reproduction of her body 354.
