Arc 2The Seven Swordsmen and Kanasi

Qingyue helped Konoha turn the war against Hidden Sand and Hidden Mist, then faced the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and survived a forced teleport that brought him to Furan. After protecting Furan from Kumogakure ninja, Qingyue fought Kanasi, whose Steel Release left him badly wounded as he began to unlock a stronger use of Haki.

  • Hiruzen assigned Sakumo and Qingyue to destroy Hidden Sand supply camps, and after months of covert raids they returned to the front and learned that Konoha was ready to strike.
  • Qingyue and Sakumo attacked the Sand camp, where Hill took control of Qingyue and summoned a thunderstorm that helped them kill Rasa and defeat the defenders.
  • Qingyue reported Rasa’s death to the Third Hokage, then joined the eastern front and helped Shisui’s forces counter Hidden Mist’s attacks.
  • Qingyue found the Seven Ninja Swordsmen confronting Might Duy and Might Guy’s team, killed Kushimaru Kuriarare, and stayed behind to hold off the remaining swordsmen.

  • A forced teleport sent Qingyue to a forest, where he met Furan, a red-haired girl who had lost her village, and promised to take her to Konoha.
  • After Kumogakure ninja abducted Furan, Qingyue transformed into Fenrir and killed the nine men at their camp before comforting her.
  • Kanasi, an Iwagakure rogue ninja sent by Man-God, attacked Qingyue with Steel Release, and Qingyue shattered the spears piercing him as Furan watched.
Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26Youth Arc: War

Hiruzen Sarutobi prepared Konoha for a war against Sunagakure and possible attacks from Kirigakure, Kumogakure, and Iwagakure. A week after the fighting began, Qingyue wondered which front he would be sent to before receiving a mission summons.

  • An ANBU reported Sunagakure's mobilization and Kirigakure's activity, so Hiruzen ordered Orochimaru to defend the border and the Uchiha and Hyuga clans to guard the eastern front.
  • Hatake Sakumo reported that Kumogakure and Iwagakure had made contact, and Hiruzen planned to have Sakumo and Qingyue destroy Sunagakure's supply lines.
  • Fugaku and Hiashi pledged their clans to defend the eastern front.
  • After a week of war, Qingyue considered the possible battlefields and worried about facing Kumogakure's A-B Duo.
  • A ninja arrived and told Jonin Qingyue that he had a mission.

Ch. 27Orochimaru's Youth

Qingyue temporarily led Minato's Team on a supply escort to Bellflower Mountain, where the team fought Hidden Sand Genin and delivered the supplies to Orochimaru. After meeting Orochimaru, Qingyue said he expected to join the battlefield after reporting back to the village.

  • Qingyue was assigned to serve as Minato's temporary replacement and lead Team 7 on a supply mission to Bellflower Mountain.
  • Kakashi, Obito, and Rin followed Qingyue's escort positions despite their misgivings about having a former teammate as their instructor.
  • Three Hidden Sand Genin attacked the convoy, and Kakashi and Obito defeated them while Rin guarded the supplies; two attackers died and one was captured.
  • The team avoided further attacks and safely delivered the supplies to the front lines.
  • Qingyue met Orochimaru, discussed his connection to Hatake Sakumo, and told him he might head to the battlefield after returning to the village.

Ch. 28The Boy's Arc: Deployment

Qingyue and Sakumo began a covert mission to destroy Hidden Sand’s supply chain after Konoha lured its forces into overextending. After ten days of watching the enemy, they finally spotted an opportunity to strike.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi assigned Sakumo and Qingyue to raid Hidden Sand’s supply camps while its front-line forces were stretched thin.
  • Sakumo reassured Qingyue that disrupting supplies would protect Konoha, and Qingyue prepared to leave while their parents served on other fronts.
  • Sakumo and Qingyue traveled in secret to the Hidden Sand battlefield and located the first supply camp.
  • Sakumo told Qingyue to wait until the camp’s guards dwindled, then destroy it without leaving survivors or revealing their presence.
  • Sakumo and Qingyue spent ten days observing Hidden Sand and passing the time with games before Sakumo told Qingyue to move.

Ch. 29Youth Arc: Operation

Qingyue and Sakumo carried out covert attacks on Sunagakure supply units, destroying three locations as the enemy grew suspicious. They decided to head to the front lines and consult Orochimaru before attempting further missions.

  • Sakumo and Qingyue silently ambushed an eight-person Sunagakure group, killing all of them without alerting nearby forces.
  • They traveled to another transport unit, eliminated its personnel, and destroyed two supply camps within a month.
  • Sakumo warned Qingyue that Sunagakure had grown suspicious and cautioned him about its poison experts and puppet weapons.
  • Sakumo and Qingyue ambushed a ten-person transport unit and killed everyone before they could react.
  • After destroying three locations, Sakumo decided they should meet Orochimaru at the front lines rather than return to Konoha.

Ch. 30Finding Someone

After six months of covert attacks on Hidden Sand’s supply camps, Qingyue and Sakumo returned to Orochimaru’s front-line camp as Konoha prepared a decisive assault. Orochimaru sent them to find a suitable support ninja in the Land of Hot Water, whom Qingyue suspected was Jiraiya.

  • Sakumo proposed luring Hidden Sand’s forces to the front before a three-Jonin team attacked their command and supply camps.
  • Qingyue and Sakumo spent six months in covert operations, destroying six Hidden Sand supply camps while avoiding detection.
  • Qingyue and Sakumo returned to the front, where Orochimaru said Konoha had reversed the situation and the time to strike had arrived.
  • Orochimaru told them to find a suitable support ninja in the Land of Hot Water because he could not spare anyone to accompany them.
  • Qingyue recognized that the missing support ninja was likely Jiraiya, the Toad Sage.

Ch. 31Assault

Qingyue and Sakumo traveled to the Sand Village's battle camp to strike at its leadership and shorten the war, deciding against seeking Jiraiya because he was too far away. With no way to approach unnoticed, Qingyue spent half of her accumulated Power of Fate to let Hill possess her, and Hill began preparing a powerful technique.

  • Qingyue and Sakumo decided to attack the Sand Village's battle camp rather than travel to the Land of Hot Water to find Jiraiya.
  • Qingyue warned Sakumo that Rasa could use a Sand Eye to scout the area, and they traveled for two days to reach the camp.
  • After spotting the camp, Sakumo proposed making a diversion with explosive tags before they searched for the commander.
  • Qingyue asked Hill for advice, and Hill offered to possess her temporarily in exchange for half of her accumulated Power of Fate.
  • Qingyue asked Sakumo to keep what followed secret, secured his agreement, and let Hill take possession of her.
  • Hill began an incantation invoking the spirit of water and the prince of the Thunder Emperor.

Ch. 32Water Saint

Hill used Water Saint magic to unleash a violent thunderstorm on the Hidden Sand camp and strike Rasa with lightning, giving Sakumo and the narrator a chance to attack. The narrator killed several guards and faced a group of Hidden Sand ninja, ending the chapter after trapping a Jonin with Red Ink.

  • Hill, controlling Qingyue’s body, summoned a violent thunderstorm that battered the Hidden Sand camp and struck Rasa with lightning.
  • Sakumo attacked the weakened Rasa, but Rasa diverted his blade and took a wound to his left shoulder.

  • Hidden Sand ninja surrounded the narrator, who killed a Chunin casting a jutsu and fought off attacks from two Jonin.
  • The narrator used an explosive knife to obscure a Jonin’s vision, then stuck Red Ink beneath his feet and left him immobilized.

Ch. 33Youth Arc: Massacre

Hill killed the Hidden Sand shinobi opposing him and joined Sakumo after the battle, where Rasa and the rest of the camp had been defeated. With the mission complete, Sakumo asked Qingyue to explain himself, and Qingyue tried to evade the question by asking whether Sakumo had heard of magic.

  • Hill used Red Ink and Explosive Tags to ambush the Hidden Sand shinobi, then killed the Chunin who distracted him.
  • Hill used his sword styles and Dragon Saint Battle Aura to defeat the remaining attackers, including a Jonin who launched Wind Release: Blade of Wind.
  • Hill finished off the Hidden Sand forces and hurried to support Sakumo.
  • Hill found Rasa dead, Sakumo wounded, and several Elite Jonin among the fallen, confirming the mission had succeeded.
  • Sakumo confronted Qingyue about what had happened, and Qingyue asked whether he had ever heard of magic.

Ch. 34Triumphant Return

Qingyue explained her mana and magic to Sakumo, who promised to protect her and agreed that Rasa’s death could help end the war. They returned to Konoha’s combat camp with Rasa’s body, then hurried back to the village to report the news to the Third Hokage.

  • Qingyue told Sakumo that Violent Thunderstorm came from mana rather than Chakra, and Sakumo promised to keep her secrets and shield her.
  • Sakumo reasoned that Qingyue sought strength to protect others, and they set out to return with news of their victory.
  • Qingyue and Sakumo brought Rasa’s body and several Jonin corpses back to the combat camp.
  • Orochimaru learned that Rasa was dead and planned to use the news in negotiations with Sand Village.
  • Sakumo and Qingyue left for Konoha to report to the Third Hokage, while Qingyue wondered how Rin was doing.

Ch. 35A Young Man Volunteers for Duty

  • Qingyue requested permission to reinforce the eastern Hidden Mist battlefield, and the Third Hokage approved his mission.
  • Qingyue visited Rin, reassured her that her gifts had helped him, and promised they would fight side by side in the future.
  • Qingyue prepared his equipment and left Konoha alone while Sakumo stayed to pressure the Hidden Sand forces.
  • After several days of travel, Qingyue reached the eastern battlefield and met Shisui.

Ch. 36Youth Arc: Here I Come

Pakura took command of Hidden Sand’s forces after the Fourth Kazekage was killed and ordered a cautious retreat. At Konoha’s eastern front, Qingyue arrived as a reinforcement, challenged an arrogant Uchiha, and met Shisui, who explained Hidden Mist’s guerrilla tactics.

  • Pakura learned that Konoha’s White Fang and an unknown Jonin had killed the Fourth Kazekage, and she ordered the front line to retreat while contacting Advisors Chiyo and Ebizo.
  • Qingyue recalled that Rasa had later arranged for Pakura’s death and hoped she might survive the war and change the Sand Village’s future.
  • Qingyue arrived at Konoha’s eastern-front command tent and found a Hyuga and an Uchiha arguing over how to respond to Hidden Mist.
  • The Uchiha insulted Qingyue, so Qingyue disarmed him and held a sword to his throat until Shisui intervened and apologized for his clansman.
  • Shisui welcomed Qingyue and described Hidden Mist’s patrols, ambush tactics, intelligence gathering, and difficult Mist Concealment Technique.

Ch. 37The Boy's Chapter: Sortie

Qingyue went alone to investigate the Hidden Mist ninja and was ambushed in the forest where the Seven Ninja Swordsmen were expected to meet Guy and the others. Using Observation Haki, he blocked the first attacks and killed two of his assailants, but the fight continued.

  • Qingyue learned that the Hidden Mist Technique had troubled Konoha's forces and asked to scout alone despite Shisui's concerns.
  • After getting permission from Shisui, Fugaku, and Hiashi, Qingyue headed to a forest he recognized as the place where the Seven Ninja Swordsmen might encounter Guy and the others.
  • Qingyue considered how he might survive the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, then found himself surrounded by Hidden Mist ninja in a thick fog.
  • A Hidden Mist ninja identified Qingyue as Sakumo's last disciple, and four attackers rushed him from different directions.
  • Qingyue used Observation Haki to block their attacks and killed two with a counterattack.

Ch. 38A Boy's Encounter

Qingyue became a key defender on Konoha’s eastern front, mastered Armament Haki in a desperate battle, and reunited with Might Guy. While following Guy’s team to protect them from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, Qingyue entered the forest where they were waiting and faced his most dangerous battle yet.

  • Qingyue killed four Hidden Mist Chunin, brought their bodies back to camp, and became the eastern front’s main source of support.
  • Qingyue first used Armament Haki to defeat two Hidden Mist Jonin, recover the stolen Byakugan, and kill Ao.
  • Might Guy arrived on the battlefield as a Chunin, and Qingyue decided to follow him to keep his team away from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen.
  • Qingyue followed Guy’s team into the forest and found the Seven Ninja Swordsmen waiting among the rocks and trees.

Ch. 39A Clash in the Youth Arc

The narrator intervened when Might Guy, Might Duy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu were cornered by the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, killing Kushimaru Kuriarare with a lightning-fast slash. The remaining swordsmen were left facing the narrator as he urged Guy and the others to escape.

  • Might Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu prepared to fight the Seven Ninja Swordsmen to the death until Might Duy arrived and offered to stay behind using the Gate of Death.

  • Qingyue ordered Might Duy and the others to leave and find Jonin reinforcements, then blocked Juzo Biwa from stopping their escape.
  • Qingyue fought Juzo Biwa, Suikazan Fuguki, and the other swordsmen, using his Dragon Saint Battle Aura and Observation Haki to withstand their attacks.
  • Hōzuki Chiba blocked Qingyue's Silent Sword with Hiramekarei and identified him as a threat.

  • The narrator stabbed his own leg with the broken blade to fight through his dizziness and ringing ears as Chiba ordered the six swordsmen to charge.
  • The narrator realized he needed strength in the present, wrapped his blade in Battle Aura and black Haki, and reached for a breakthrough to Sword God Style—Light Blade and Sword Saint.

Ch. 42Boyhood Arc: Breakthrough

Qingyue broke through during his battle with the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, killed Munashi Jinpachi, and collapsed just as Konoha reinforcements arrived. After waking in the hospital, he learned that all the swordsmen had been captured and began reviewing the war’s progress, while planning to rest before joining the Kannabi Bridge mission.

  • Qingyue killed Munashi Jinpachi with a burst of speed, then ran out of strength as Hōzuki Chiba and the other swordsmen faced him.
  • Uchiha Fugaku and Konoha reinforcements, including Shisui and Hyuga shinobi, surrounded the remaining swordsmen, and someone caught Qingyue as he collapsed.
  • Qingyue woke in a Konoha hospital and learned that the village hailed him as a hero for his battlefield deeds.
  • Qingyue asked the Third Hokage whether the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and their swords had been captured, and the Hokage confirmed that they were all in Konoha’s custody.
  • Qingyue reviewed the war’s situation and learned that Konoha planned to destroy Kannabi Bridge, while Hidden Sand was in disarray and Hidden Cloud and Hidden Rock were fighting on multiple fronts.

Ch. 43Turning Point I

Qingyue fought Hidden Sand on Konoha’s border while worrying about Hill’s unexplained silence, then vanished through a glowing magic circle. He awoke in a past moment as Kanasi, a tortured prisoner, and received advice from a mysterious Man-God on how to escape.

  • Qingyue spoke with Orochimaru about Hidden Sand’s strategy and then fought on the battlefield, driving back enemies who attacked him.
  • Qingyue reflected on Hill’s absence and questioned why he had been reincarnated with unusual powers and the ability to change history.
  • A blue magic circle appeared beneath Qingyue, and unseen operators teleported him after confirming that two Players could make contact.
  • Kanasi recalled being mistreated by his team, abandoned during a mission, and tortured after Kumogakure captured him.
  • A pure-white figure calling himself a Man-God spoke with Kanasi in a dream and advised him to provoke his tormentor the next day so he could kill the man and escape.

Ch. 44Youth Arc: Error

Qingyue woke in an unfamiliar forest after an unknown entity forcibly teleported him, and Hill explained that her interference had displaced his destination. He learned that other reincarnators existed and that summoning Hill’s physical body would cost a great deal of the Power of Fate; the chapter ended when he found a mud-covered red-haired girl in a cave.

  • Qingyue woke in a forest and learned from Hill that the Power of Fate had forcibly teleported him, while Hill’s interference had altered his destination.
  • Qingyue asked whether other reincarnators existed, and Hill confirmed they did but could not reveal their identities.
  • Qingyue reassured Hill and promised to bring her into the world if he could exchange enough Power of Fate for her physical body.
  • Qingyue left the forest and entered a cave to spend the night, where he found a mud-covered girl with bright red hair.

Ch. 45Furan's Youth

  • The girl woke and secretly watched Qingyue before he ordered her to approach and agree to his conditions for food and shelter.
  • The girl introduced herself as Furan and told Qingyue that her village was gone and she had escaped.

Ch. 46Taming Beasts

Qingyue subdued Furan, fed her, and arranged for her to bathe and change clothes in their cave. After learning that Furan had nowhere to return to, Qingyue invited her to leave for Konoha together and promised to protect her.

  • Furan punched Qingyue, who caught her wrist and threw her against the cave wall, prompting her to apologize.
  • Qingyue gave Furan vegetables, fruit, and meat and told her to eat slowly if she wanted to stay.

  • Qingyue hugged Furan and promised to take her to Konoha and protect her.

Ch. 47The Boy Arc: Massacre

Qingyue and Furan traveled toward Konoha until a Kumogakure squad ambushed them and kidnapped Furan. Qingyue tracked her to a hidden camp, slaughtered its occupants, and comforted her after rescuing her.

  • Qingyue trained Furan in swordsmanship as they traveled for eight days without encountering anyone.
  • Qingyue killed three Kumogakure ninja, but a Jonin abducted Furan while the others distracted him.
  • The Jonin brought Furan to a hidden Kumogakure camp, where two ninja discussed abusing her and taking her bloodline.

  • Qingyue apologized to Furan, and she leaped into his arms and cried as he comforted her.

Ch. 48Youth Arc: Man-God

  • Qingyue reassured Furan that she should fight back or call for help if she was threatened again, and she asked to learn his fast swordsmanship.
  • Qingyue explained the Sword God Style’s Light Blade to Furan, then continued traveling with her while avoiding Hidden Cloud ninja.
  • Qingyue sensed an approaching enemy who identified him as the target Man-God had ordered eliminated.
  • The attacker introduced himself as Kanasi, a rogue ninja from Iwagakure, and refused to explain Man-God’s motive for targeting Qingyue.
  • Qingyue struck Kanasi with a Haki-coated sword slash, but Kanasi survived unharmed and revealed his Steel Release Kekkei Tōta.
  • Kanasi launched sharp steel pillars at Qingyue.

Ch. 49Blood Battle

Qingyue fought Kanasi, a Shadow Level opponent whose Steel Release and Mud Release countered Qingyue’s close-range combat. The battle ended in a stalemate, with Qingyue realizing he had to master Ryuo or develop his Fruit powers before Kanasi defeated him.

  • Qingyue dodged Kanasi’s steel spear and deflected his Scatter Steel Bullets with Water God Style swordsmanship.
  • Qingyue wounded Kanasi only slightly before escaping the steel pillars that erupted beneath him.

  • Kanasi trapped Qingyue in a Mud Swamp and attacked with steel pillars, but Qingyue broke free and evaded an Iron Lotus.
  • Kanasi repeatedly forced Qingyue to flee exploding Iron Lotuses, leaving the fight a race between Qingyue learning Ryuo or new Fruit abilities and Kanasi overpowering him.

Ch. 50Boyhood Arc: Ryuo

Qingyue fought Kanasi and struggled to understand how to use Ryuo, while Kanasi used Qingyue’s blood to control steel spears and badly wounded him. As Kanasi prepared a final attack, Qingyue discovered that releasing an excessive amount of Haki could shatter the spears and prepared to counterattack.

  • Qingyue abandoned sword-focused attacks and punched Kanasi, trying to sense the flow of Haki and trigger Ryuo.
  • Kanasi revealed that he could use Qingyue’s blood to control steel, then pierced Qingyue with tracking spears.
  • Furan watched Qingyue’s injuries and felt a special chakra affect her eyes as she prayed for him to fight back.
  • Kanasi prepared to blast Qingyue’s brain with another spear, while Qingyue stopped overthinking and sensed Haki more clearly.
  • Qingyue released an excessive amount of Haki, shattered the spears embedded in his body, and vowed to take his turn against Kanasi.
