On the Quidditch Pitch, the Gryffindor Quidditch team was holding tryouts for new players. Quite a few spectators filled the stands; though it was not an official match, it was still a form of entertainment.
Ron Weasley wobbled through the air on his broomstick until he reached the three enormous metal hoops. This was where he was supposed to be as the Keeper.
Watching Cormac McLaggen across from him look so confident, Ron could not help feeling nervous.
That McLaggen was a strange fellow too. Ron did not know whether he should laugh at him for being stupid or for being poorly informed.
With McLaggen's tall, handsome looks, if he merely learned to show off like Lockhart, he would surely attract plenty of female students. But no matter what, he should never have set his sights on Hermione Granger.
Ron had once seen Eli personally snatch Crookshanks from Hermione's arms when the cat refused to leave, then toss him aside.
But this was not the time to pity that fat cat or the unlucky fellow opposite him. Ron needed to worry about himself.
As Harry blew his whistle, the match began, and the field immediately became intense.
Although these students who had yet to join the team had not received Quidditch training, their determination not to let the other side win at least gave them plenty of spirit.
The students in the stands watched with great interest. Compared with an official Quidditch match, the tryouts had their own appeal.
While Harry was still overseeing the tryouts, Eli and Draco Malfoy had already found the Vanishing Cabinet that someone had placed in the Room of Requirement.
It was covered in dust and had clearly been there for many years. It had all sorts of problems, big and small.
Neither of
