Cultivation Mechanics

Dou Qi Stage

Dou Qi is the beginning of the cultivation path and the stage most directly associated with natural talent. At this level, cultivators rely solely on steady personal practice rather than external resources. An ordinary person may require fifteen or sixteen years to reach the Tenth Stage, while completing the process in roughly ten years is considered exceptional 1.

• Improving by one stage every two years is considered adequate talent for cultivation 1.
• Battle techniques are generally not practiced before the Third Stage and are more commonly learned after reaching the Fifth Stage 4.
• The Ninth Stage is the final stable stage before attempting to form a qi whirlpool 1.

Qi Whirlpool Formation

The transition from Dou Qi to Dou Practitioner requires a cultivator to gather Dou Qi in the dantian and compress it into a stable qi whirlpool 2.

Fire Attribute

Fire-attributed Dou Qi is Xiao Yan's primary attribute. His cultivation produces a distinctive scorching aura, and its Yang nature can suppress the sinister, toxic Dou Qi cultivated by the Blood Sect 5 19.

Cultivation Methods and Dou Techniques

Cultivation methods and battle techniques are divided into four major tiers: Yellow, Mystic, Earth, and Heaven. Each tier has low, middle, and high grades 3 4.

Realm Manifestations

Dou Qi Veil

The Dou Qi Veil is the signature ability of a Dou Master. Dou Qi clings to the body and clothing like a flowing outer layer, comprehensively improving the user's strength, speed, and defense 18.

Dou Qi Projection

Great Dou Masters can release Dou Qi beyond their bodies as direct attacks. Xiao Yan demonstrated this ability by firing a stream of Dou Qi that shattered a jade bottle 48.

Dou Qi Armor

A Great Dou Master's Dou Qi Armor is a condensed defensive covering formed through the Dou Crystal. It serves a role similar to the Dou Qi Veil but provides a much greater enhancement to offense, defense, and speed 48.

Dou Qi Wings

Dou Qi Wings are associated with the Dou King realm and allow their users to fly freely through the sky 28.

Dou Qi is one of the three indispensable requirements for alchemy, alongside a compatible fire-and-wood attribute combination and strong innate soul power 10.
