Dou Qi Stage

Dou Qi is the beginning of the cultivation path and the stage most directly associated with natural talent. • Improving by one stage every two years is considered adequate talent for cultivation 1.

Attributes

Fire Attribute

Fire-attributed Dou Qi is Xiao Yan's primary attribute. His cultivation produces a distinctive scorching aura, and its Yang nature can suppress the sinister, toxic Dou Qi cultivated by the Blood Sect 5 19.

Fire and Wood Energy

An alchemist must possess fire-attributed Dou Qi with hidden wood energy. The wood element tempers fire's violent nature, allowing the precise flame control needed for pill refinement 10.

• Soul power is used to locate the hidden wood attribute within the body 10.
• The wood energy is introduced into the medicinal cauldron to stabilize the flame 10.

Heavenly Flame Enhancement

Heavenly Flames can greatly enhance the quality, destructive power, and versatility of fire-attributed Dou Qi. Xiao Yan's Bone Chilling Flame devoured the Green Lotus Core Flame's essence, and the resulting pale-green flame can suppress and consume lesser flames 140 152.

• The Green Lotus Core Flame provides Xiao Yan with a major increase in cultivation after its accumulated energy is refined 140.

Cultivation Methods and Dou Techniques

Cultivation methods and battle techniques are divided into four major tiers: Yellow, Mystic, Earth, and Heaven. Each tier has low, middle, and high grades 3 4.

Method Quality

The quality of a cultivation method directly affects a cultivator's growth and combat performance.

• Even a Low Yellow Tier method is superior to relying on the body's instinctive absorption of energy 4.

• A superior method can increase both the quantity and quality of a user's Dou Qi 19.

• Mad Lion's Roar — High Mystic Tier technique that forms a powerful energy lion and can damage a stronger opponent's Dou Qi Armor 105 165.
• Nether Dragon Prison-Suppressing Song — Mid-Earth Tier soundwave technique based on a dragon's roar; it can attack both body and soul, damage meridians, and destroy an opponent's spirit 31.
• Taiyi Fire Net Palm — High-Earth Tier Burning Flame Valley technique comprising the Boiling Sea, Heaven-Burning, and Fire Net Sigils. Combining all three sigils produces power approaching the Heaven Tier, though Xiao Yan can initially use only the Boiling Sea Sigil 198.

Secret Techniques

Secret techniques are distinct from ordinary cultivation methods and Dou Techniques because they can temporarily alter a cultivator's combat condition or cultivation level.

• Three Mysterious Changes of Heavenly Flame — A Burning Flame Valley secret technique that uses flames to temporarily raise a cultivator's strength. Tang Huohuo uses it to reach near High-Rank Great Dou Master strength, while Xiao Yan later employs multiple flames to reach Dou Emperor-level combat power 51 196.
• Such enhancements do not necessarily damage a user's foundation, but their duration is limited and can leave the user exhausted or severely depleted once the effect ends 51 111 199.
• Purple Cloud Wings — A flying Dou Technique that permits a cultivator below the Dou Wang realm to fly, serving as a substitute for innate Dou Qi Wings 105.

Realm Manifestations

Dou Qi Veil

The Dou Qi Veil is the signature ability of a Dou Master. Dou Qi clings to the body and clothing like a flowing outer layer, comprehensively improving the user's strength, speed, and defense 18.

Dou Qi Projection

Great Dou Masters can release Dou Qi beyond their bodies as direct attacks. Xiao Yan demonstrated this ability by firing a stream of Dou Qi that shattered a jade bottle 48.

Dou Qi Armor

A Great Dou Master's Dou Qi Armor is a condensed defensive covering formed through the Dou Crystal. It serves a role similar to the Dou Qi Veil but provides a much greater enhancement to offense, defense, and speed 48.

Dou Wang Transformation

The Dou Wang realm marks a fundamental departure from the cultivation structure used by lower realms. Rather than retaining a central Dou Crystal, a Dou Wang's entire body becomes capable of storing, producing, absorbing, and circulating Dou Qi 117.

• The breakthrough requires the destruction of the Dou Crystal and subjects the body to repeated cycles of injury and reconstruction 117.
• A Dou Wang can directly absorb the energy of heaven and earth, greatly expanding the scale and endurance of their Dou Qi use 117.

Dou Qi Wings

Dou Qi Wings are associated with the Dou King realm and allow their users to fly freely through the sky 28.

After becoming a Dou Wang, Xiao Yan manifests scarlet Dou Qi Wings naturally from his back, no longer requiring a flying Dou Technique for aerial movement 117.

Relationship to Alchemy

Dou Qi is one of the three indispensable requirements for alchemy, alongside a compatible fire-and-wood attribute combination and strong innate soul power 10.
