Background

Ancient Xiao Clan

The Xiao Clan originated from a Dou Emperor and was once a powerful Dou God Clan of the Central Plains. Its members possessed the Dou Emperor Bloodline, which enabled extraordinarily rapid cultivation and sustained the clan’s prosperity across generations. 69

About a thousand years before the present era, the clan’s bloodline began weakening. Its leader, Xiao Xuan, then a peak Nine-Star Dou Saint, gathered the clan’s remaining bloodline into himself in an attempt to become a Dou Emperor and renew the lineage. The attempt failed, stripping the clan of its bloodline and leaving it vulnerable to retaliation from enemies, including the Soul Clan. 69

The survivors eventually declined into the comparatively ordinary Xiao Clan of the present era. Burning Flame Valley retains a historical connection to the clan because its founder, the Burning Flame Ancestor, was Xiao Xuan’s close friend and regretted failing to aid the Xiao Clan during its collapse. 69

Decline and Relocation

After the clan’s decline, its surviving branch settled in Wutan City. Xiao Lin, a former clan patriarch and Jia Ma Empire general, was a Dou Wang; after his death, the clan’s strength and resources diminished substantially. 82 127

During a later relocation, the Xiao Clan convoy was ambushed and its remaining Dou Ling, Xiao Ting, died protecting it. The clan’s ceremonial artifacts disappeared during this period. Xiao Yan’s investigation later traced the attack to hostile forces coordinated through figures connected to the Jia Ma Imperial Family. 127

Ya Ye subsequently claimed that she had initiated the operation on the imperial family’s behalf to seize the Xiao Clan’s ritual vessels. 213

Legacy and Assets

• Tou She Ancient God Jade — The Xiao Clan retains one of the eight fragments of the Tou She Ancient God Jade, a relic believed to be connected to Tou She Ancient God’s Dou Emperor inheritance. Its possession makes the weakened clan a potential target for the other Dou God Clans. 70
  • The fragment was kept by Xiao Zhan as the clan chief’s jade pendant. Xiao Yan later returned it to him, fearing that its disappearance could draw greater suspicion toward the clan. 83 101
• Ceremonial artifacts — Many current ritual items are replicas, as the originals were lost. 101

Wutan City crisis

The Xiao Clan’s market business declined under pressure from the Jia Lie Clan and its First-Grade Alchemist. The conflict escalated when Jia Lie personnel attempted to abduct Xiao Mei and poisoned Xiao Yu during her intervention. 74 77

Xiao Yan’s return transformed the clan’s position. He revealed himself as a Peak Dou Ling and Fifth-Grade Alchemist, giving the elders confidence that the clan could confront stronger local rivals rather than merely compete through pill sales. 82 83

Destruction of the Jia Lie Clan

After Liu Xi openly admitted to poisoning Xiao Yu and plotting to abduct Xiao Mei, Xiao Yan killed Jia Lie Bi and Jia Lie Ao, then compelled Oba Pa to withdraw the Oba Clan from Wutan City and punish Oba Nuo for killing a Xiao Clan guard. 96

The Xiao Clan publicly recognized Xiao Yan as Young Clan Head and marched on the Jia Lie Clan under the justification of its accumulated crimes, corruption, and ties to Liu Xi. The Jia Lie Clan was annihilated, while the Xiao Clan assumed control of Wutan City. 97 98

Imperial Capital and the Jia Ma conspiracy

Xiao Yan shared the clan’s hidden history with Xiao Ding and Xiao Li, including the evidence that the Jia Ma Imperial Family had been involved in the attack on the Xiao Clan convoy. 127

As the conflict expanded into the Imperial Capital, the Xiao Clan established a residence there. During the Misty Cloud Sect’s seizure of Jia Ma Sacred City, Yun Leng specifically sought to capture the remaining Xiao Clan members sheltering within the Mite’er Clan. 189 197

• Xiao Yan — Young Clan Head and the clan’s foremost source of military power, alchemical prestige, and political influence. His return restores the clan’s confidence and enables its expansion beyond Wutan City. 82 97 98
• Xiao Zhan — Clan Head and Xiao Yan’s father. He supports Xiao Yan’s rise while providing political restraint, particularly in sparing the fractured Oba Clan after the Jia Lie conflict. 75 97
