Acquisition and Absorption
A Soul Ring manifests after a soul beast is killed. The intended bearer draws the ring in with soul power and absorbs its energy; the process cannot be safely assisted by others once it begins. Successful absorption stabilizes the ring beneath the Soul Master and grants a corresponding Soul Skill 8 9.
A Soul Master with Innate Full Soul Power still requires a first Soul Ring to formally become a One-Ring Soul Master 4 9. Soul power may continue accumulating after reaching a bottleneck, then be released when the next Soul Ring is absorbed 16 28. Gu Ling reached level 40 after absorbing the Ice and Fire Dragon King essences, but could not advance further without a fourth Soul Ring; Ye Lingling likewise reached level 40 after taking the Aromatic Silk Beauty and needed a fourth ring to become a Soul Ancestor 65 76 92.
Allies can hunt a soul beast and guard the bearer during absorption, but cannot take over the absorption itself. Qin Ming weakened the Earthbone Demon Armor Beast for Gu Ling to kill, while Dugu Bo guarded Gu Ling as he absorbed the Spatial Demon Dragon’s ring 27 70. Ye Lingling personally killed an Azure Jade Spirit Deer for her fourth ring after Gu Ling and Dugu Bo helped restrain it 90.
Selection Principles
- Soul Masters possess only nine Soul Ring slots, making redundant or poorly matched skills a permanent limitation on future development 6.
- A suitable ring should complement a Martial Soul’s innate traits rather than blindly reinforce its strongest existing attribute 4 6.
- Soul beast attributes, physical traits, and combat methods can be inherited as Soul Skill effects. The Sky-Splitting Bone Leopard’s spatial ability fused with Gu Ling’s Bone Dragon, while the Earthbone Demon Armor Beast provided ground-spike control and soul-power disruption 9 26 29.
- Greater ring age provides more powerful energy and potential benefits, but also places greater strain on the bearer’s bones, meridians, and body 8 27 28.
- Gu Ling chose his third ring to add area control to his spatial attacks rather than acquire another purely offensive or defensive skill. He rejected available beasts that did not suit that plan 22.
- Healing-type Soul Masters can likewise select rings to develop their specialties.
