Background and History
Tang Shuo awakened a damaged copper mirror martial soul at age six with no apparent soul power. Tang Hao regarded the martial soul as worthless, abandoned Tang Shuo in Holy Soul Village, and left with Tang San; Village Chief Old Jack found the starving child and raised him thereafter 1.
Rather than discard the mirror, Tang Shuo discovered that it could absorb sunlight and convert it into Solar Divine Radiance. He cultivated alone on the village cliff for years, gradually revealing golden divine runes beneath the mirror’s rust-like surface 1.
The mirror was ultimately revealed to be an external portal rather than his complete martial soul. Within his sea of consciousness rested the Eastern Emperor Bell, and the greater martial-soul form behind its artifacts was Eastern Sovereign Taiyi 3 30. After the bell’s awakening, Tang Shuo left Holy Soul Village to obtain a soul ring and begin life as a Soul Master 3.
At Heaven Dou Imperial Academy, Tang Shuo forged connections with Ye Lengleng, Dugu Yan, Dugu Bo, and Qian Renxue. His cultivation of poison, Yin-Yang, and body-tempering arts repeatedly exposed the godlike nature of Eastern Sovereign Taiyi, attracting the attention of Heaven Dou, Spirit Hall, Sea God Island, and the Star Dou Great Forest’s strongest inhabitants 31 36 79 82.
While seeking his fourth soul ring in the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang Shuo encountered Di Tian and Gu Yuena. Gu Yuena recognized the Primordial Qi associated with his Eastern Emperor Bell and entered a long-term agreement with him: she would aid his growth, including by providing a Divine Bestowed Spirit Ring, while his strengthening Primordial Qi would assist her recovery 80 82.
Tang Shuo later became the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy team’s captain and led it through the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. His conflicts with Shrek Academy, Spirit Hall, and Tang San escalated into an open feud, culminating in Tang Shuo’s emergence as the Eastern Sovereign and Tang San’s death after his Sea God inheritance was destroyed 95 97 107 108 137 142 143.
Although he possesses power sufficient to overturn the continent, Tang Shuo ultimately rejects rulership. After Qian Renxue becomes Empress Wu Zhao, he retires with Zhu Zhuqing to a secluded valley; Qian Renxue later joins them there after arranging the empire’s affairs 143.
Appearance
Tang Shuo is a handsome youth with clear eyes, black hair, and an unusually composed, ethereal bearing. Even when wearing worn coarse linen clothing in Holy Soul Village, he carried himself with a straight, pine-like posture; after his later cultivation, Ye Lengleng notices that his features become sharper and his presence more restrained and unfathomable 1 43.
- Upright posture and calm gaze 1
- Often conceals his aura and returns to an outwardly ordinary appearance after displaying power 3
- Uses a mask when competing publicly as Shuofeng; he later commonly wears a silver mask to conceal his identity in major battles 47 84
- During activation of the Eastern Sovereign Taiyi Divine Body, his hair and eyes turn gold and an intricate golden mark emerges on his forehead 115
- In his later divine state, his golden-eyed presence alone can suppress ordinary Soul Masters and soul beasts at the level of life itself 132 136
Personality
Tang Shuo is disciplined, self-reliant, and intensely ambitious. Years of abandonment and solitary cultivation did not make him surrender; instead, they convinced him that outward judgments of talent are meaningless. He openly declares that he will become the continent’s strongest Soul Master, despite Tang San and Xiao Wu dismissing him as powerless 2.
He is normally calm and emotionally restrained, even when confronting stronger enemies such as Dugu Bo or dangerous soul beasts. His confidence can appear reckless, especially when he pursues vastly over-aged soul rings, but he also plans carefully when confronting threats beyond his present strength 9 25 33.
Tang Shuo consistently intervenes when others are endangered. He saves Zhu Zhuqing from an assassin, treats her cold poison, protects Dugu Yan from inherited poison backlash, and stops Ma Hongjun from assaulting a civilian 3 9 26 40. He values practical strength, resilience, and composure over pedigree or reputation 49.
As his power grows, Tang Shuo becomes more ruthless toward those who threaten his companions. He cripples or kills hostile enemies without hesitation, including Spirit Hall pursuers and Titled Douluo, but continues to exercise restraint when unnecessary killing would serve no purpose 74 115 136 140. Despite being described as capable of reducing the continent to chaos, he chooses peace because of the people he loves and ultimately abandons worldly power for a quiet life 137 143.
Abilities & Skills
Eastern Sovereign Taiyi
Tang Shuo’s complete and true martial soul is an imperial, godlike form associated with the sun, moon, chaos, and nine blazing suns. The Eastern Emperor Mirror and Eastern Emperor Bell are manifestations or weapons connected to this form rather than the entirety of his power 30.
- Releases overwhelming imperial pressure capable of forcing powerful soul beasts into submission 7 24.
- Suppresses residual soul-beast wills during otherwise impossible soul-ring absorptions 25 36.
- Its aura can affect Heaven Dou City, draw the attention of Qian Renxue and Bibi Dong, and neutralize a spatial rift observed by Bo Saixi 31.
- Tang Shuo’s mortal body cannot initially sustain Eastern Sovereign Taiyi’s complete divine power; he can initially use only a trace of its divine soul power 18 30.
- Its Primordial Qi resonates with Gu Yuena’s ancient power, leading her to regard Tang Shuo’s growth as essential to her own recovery 80 82.
- The martial soul’s divine life power can reconstruct a destroyed body and restore a fading soul, allowing Tang Shuo to resurrect Zhu Zhuqing after her death 133.
- Tang Shuo’s innate Eastern Sovereign power combines divine order with demonic chaos and is portrayed as superior to ordinary inherited godhood, including Tang San’s Sea God power 137 142.
Eastern Sovereign Taiyi Divine Body
The Eastern Sovereign Taiyi Divine Body is Tang Shuo’s most dangerous divine transformation. It temporarily elevates him beyond the limits of his mortal body and grants direct authority over life, death, souls, and space 115.
- Transforms his hair and eyes gold and manifests a divine golden mark on his forehead 115.
- Completely suppresses the auras of multiple Titled Douluo and allows him to kill opponents by annihilating both body and soul with golden rays 115.
- Can immobilize fleeing enemies in midair through spatial control 115.
- Its initial use severely shatters Tang Shuo’s meridians, bones, and organs after the power collapses, leaving him nearly unconscious 115.
- In his later mature state, Tang Shuo can destroy Titled Douluo and ninth soul skills with casual finger strikes, forcing entire Spirit Hall formations to kneel 136.
Eastern Emperor Mirror
The mirror was initially believed to be Tang Shuo’s damaged copper mirror martial soul. It channels solar power and possesses extraordinary support, healing, defensive, and restorative functions 1 11.
- Absorbs sunlight and converts it into Solar Divine Radiance 1.
- Enhances an ally’s attack power, speed, senses, and combat effectiveness severalfold 6.
- Heals injuries, suppresses cold and poison, and restores damaged tissue 6 9 23.
- Its Great Sun Divine Light revives dying solar-attributed spirit herbs and accelerates their growth toward maturity 14.
- Sun True Fire can dissolve soul-power pressure and reinforce Tang Shuo’s body 11.
Eastern Emperor Bell / Chaos Bell
The ancient bell is Tang Shuo’s most destructive and defensive manifestation. Its sound and suppression power affect both physical targets and souls 3 24.
- A single Hongmeng Dao Sound instantly destroys a three-ring Soul Venerable and shatters his soul rings 3.
- Return to the Void annihilates the critically wounded ten-thousand-year Blazing Sun Golden Falcon, leaving only its soul ring 8.
- Forms defensive barriers capable of blocking toxins, venom, and Dugu Yan’s Jade Phosphor Needles 21 28.
- Damages and suppresses an enemy’s soul before annihilating its body and poison 24.
- Can withstand and reflect Tang San’s Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer attack through a manifested bell phantom 61.
- Absorbs the combined attacks of Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Ma Hongjun before releasing a soundwave that defeats all three 74.
- Its chaotic origin power forms the basis of Eastern Emperor Imprisoning Hell, allowing Tang Shuo to suppress an entire area of heaven and earth 81.
Soul Skills
- First Soul Skill: Solar Corona Divine Wheel — A blazing golden divine wheel obtained from the ten-thousand-year Blazing Sun Golden Falcon. It launches destructive solar attacks and can overwhelm higher-ranked opponents 8 28.
- Soul-Devouring Hand — A black ghost claw obtained from the fifty-thousand-year Nine-Heart Toad. It withers vegetation, drains vitality and spiritual essence, and can restrain enemies while inflicting mental torment 25 60.
- Third Soul Skill: World-Annihilating Nine Heavens Flame — A small-looking but terrifying flame gained from the Crimson Sky Flame Dragon’s fifty-thousand-year ring; Dugu Bo judges it capable of burning everything in existence 36.
- Divine Silence — A spiritual attack used against Tang San’s Purple Demon Eyes. It overwhelms and reflects Tang San’s mental assault, destroying his Purple Demon Eyes and severely damaging his vision 97.
- Fourth Soul Skill: Eastern Emperor Imprisoning Hell — A hundred-thousand-year control skill gained from the Divine Bestowed Spirit Ring. It creates a blood-red suppression domain that restricts time, space, movement, martial souls, Soul Power, and techniques within its range 81 85.
Myriad-Poison Fiend Legs
A body-tempering cultivation art and the second component of Tang Shuo’s intended Primordial Hongmeng Divine Body 18.
- Requires Myriad-Poison Fluid made from countless toxins, including Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor Poison 19 30.
- Repeated destruction and reconstruction strengthen Tang Shuo’s legs, bones, muscles, meridians, and poison resistance 31 32.
- Grants immunity to ordinary toxins and enables poisonous leg techniques, including Myriad Poison Killing Leg 32 41.
- The cultivation process severely damages his body without external healing support 30 31.
- Its advanced movement techniques allow Tang Shuo to evade high-level arena opponents and move with near-untraceable speed 50.
- His poison resistance later renders Tang San’s poison powder and the Eight Spider Lances’ venom ineffective 60 108.
Primordial Yin-Yang Hands
A technique cultivated with the Infernal Delicate Apricot, Eight-Angled Mysterious Ice Grass, and the opposing energies of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 37.
- Allows Tang Shuo’s palms to wield both extreme cold and fire energies 39.
- Can disrupt an opponent’s vital energy and inflict devastating internal damage 39.
- Forms one of the five foundational components of the Primordial Hongmeng Divine Body 18.
- Its black-and-white Yin-Yang force destroys Tang San’s Mysterious Jade Hands and shatters his arm in direct combat 61.
- It effortlessly defeats Xiao Wu and Ma Hongjun during their later ambush in the Star Dou Great Forest 74.
God-Demon Art and Primordial Unity Spine
Tang Shuo’s God-Demon Art and later spine-forging cultivation are central to his extraordinary physical growth 71 87.
- The God-Demon Art forms twin cultivation vortices, allowing him to break through from peak rank thirty-nine to level forty 71.
- It guides and refines the violent power of the Divine Bestowed Spirit Ring, strengthening his body, meridians, life force, and spiritual foundation 81.
- Dragon Elephant Valley’s ancient earth-vein power enables Tang Shuo to reforge his spine into the Primordial Unity Dragon-Elephant Spine 87 90.
- The completed spine contains ninety-nine strands of dragon-elephant power and grants him tremendous force, stability, and the ability to absorb and rebound attacks 90 91.
- After nine days in Dragon Elephant Valley, Tang Shuo can force Qian Renxue backward with one hand while holding back and claims the strength to protect her himself 91.
Physical Combat and Movement
Tang Shuo’s body cultivation, speed, and close-quarters skill let him defeat opponents without using his martial soul or soul skills.
- Overwhelmed Dugu Yan through fists, kicks, elbows, knees, and superior reactions before summoning his martial soul 28.
- Evaded Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix Fireline and incapacitated him without initially using his martial soul 40.
- Defeated fifty consecutive Great Soul Arena opponents—many within three exchanges—using only physical ability, movement techniques, and palm strikes 46.
- Defeated Huyan Li, the Elephant Armor Sect’s strongest younger-generation disciple, with one controlled punch despite Huyan Li’s Mammoth Elephant possession and two defensive soul skills 88.
- Crushed the Four Element Academy captains, the Heaven Dou team, Shrek Academy, and Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation with raw power often without revealing his full martial-soul abilities 85 94 107 110.
- Stops Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer with one finger, destroys the Sea God Trident through the Eastern Sovereign’s Golden Crow manifestation, and defeats Tang San after his Sea God inheritance 97 142 143.

- Ye Lengleng — Former academy senior, healer, and close companion. She heals Tang Shuo through poison-body cultivation, receives an immortal herb from him, and becomes his two-on-two arena partner in the Wind-Leaf Team. After Tang Shuo’s later transcendent transformation, she is overwhelmed by his aura and fears him 30 31 44 47 54 132.
- Dugu Yan — Former ally and poison source. Tang Shuo repeatedly treats her inherited Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor poison backlash, while she provides the natal poison needed for his cultivation. She later becomes frightened and humiliated by the vast gap between them 26 29 32 132.

- Ma Hongjun — Enemy. Tang Shuo intervenes when Ma Hongjun attempts to assault a young woman and leaves him severely poisoned and crippled, creating Ma Hongjun’s lasting hatred. Ma Hongjun later repeatedly joins Shrek’s attacks against Tang Shuo and is effortlessly defeated 40 41 74 108.

- Bibi Dong — Major enemy and Qian Renxue’s mother. Bibi Dong attempts to recruit Tang Shuo and later sends Titled Douluo to execute him; Tang Shuo ultimately threatens to come to Spirit City and hold her accountable for her actions against Qian Renxue 114 115 137.
- Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong — Allies by the end of the conflict. Tang Shuo saves the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect from Spirit Hall’s assault, after which its leaders recognize him as the Eastern Sovereign and submit to his superior status 136 137.
Major Arcs
Holy Soul Village
Tang Shuo endures abandonment, discovers Solar Divine Radiance through the supposedly useless copper mirror, and awakens the Eastern Emperor Bell after years of cultivation. He leaves the village once his martial soul fully returns and his innate full soul power is confirmed 1 3.
Star Dou Great Forest
Tang Shuo rescues Zhu Zhuqing from a Soul Venerable assassin, kills the pursuer with a bell strike, and hunts an exceptional first soul ring. He annihilates the ten-thousand-year Blazing Sun Golden Falcon, absorbs its ring, and gains Solar Corona Divine Wheel 3 8.
Heaven Dou Imperial Academy
After withstanding Bai Baoshan’s escalating soul-power pressure, Tang Shuo is admitted as the academy’s most honored student. He uses the Eastern Emperor Mirror to revive dying spirit herbs, meets Ye Lengleng and Dugu Yan, and begins using his solar power to treat poison backlash 10 11 14 17.
Dugu Family and Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well
Tang Shuo bargains for Dugu Yan’s poison and Ye Lengleng’s healing to begin forging the Primordial Hongmeng Divine Body. After confronting Dugu Bo and proving his ability to cure the family’s inherited poison, he gains access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, its immortal herbs, and the Crimson Sky Flame Dragon’s soul ring 18 33 36.
Shuofeng of the Great Soul Arena
Using the alias Shuofeng, Tang Shuo registers as a rank-thirty-nine Soul Master and wins fifty one-on-one matches in a single day without revealing his martial soul or soul skills. The feat earns him a Golden Spirit Arena Badge and makes him a major subject of interest across Heaven Dou City 45 46 48.
Tang Shuo’s undefeated streak later passes eighty victories, drawing challengers such as Mad Lion and turning Shuofeng into a Great Soul Arena legend. He subsequently forms the Wind-Leaf Team with Ye Lengleng; their complementary physical offense and Nine-Heart Begonia healing rapidly make them an elite two-on-two team 50 54.
Divine Bestowed Ring and Dragon Elephant Valley
After meeting Di Tian and Gu Yuena in the Star Dou Great Forest, Tang Shuo receives a Divine Bestowed Spirit Ring and endures its baptism to obtain a hundred-thousand-year fourth soul ring and peak rank-forty-nine cultivation 79 82.
With Qian Renxue’s support, he enters the Elephant Armor Sect’s Dragon Elephant Valley. Tang Shuo defeats Huyan Li in one punch, tempers himself in the valley for nine days, and forges the Primordial Unity Dragon-Elephant Spine through the ancient dragon-elephant earth-vein power 86 91.
Heaven Dou Team and Tournament Preliminaries
Tang Shuo defeats Yu Tianheng and the rest of the Heaven Dou team, though he initially refuses its captaincy. He later leads the academy’s team against Shrek Academy, decisively defeats Dai Mubai and Tang San, and destroys Tang San’s Purple Demon Eyes with Divine Silence 94 97.
His victories against the Four Element Academies and the preliminary tournament teams establish him as Heaven Dou’s strongest young competitor. His hundred-thousand-year fourth ring and Eastern Emperor Imprisoning Hell overturn the continent’s understanding of conventional spirit-ring limits 84 85.
Spirit City Finals and Spirit Hall Conflict
Spirit Hall’s hostility toward Tang Shuo escalates into assassination attempts and a direct confrontation with Bibi Dong. At the finals, Tang Shuo defeats Shrek Academy and the Spirit Hall Golden Generation so thoroughly that the latter’s members surrender their individual-round matches without fighting 101 107 110.
When six Titled Douluo encircle him and Dugu Bo, Tang Shuo activates the Eastern Sovereign Taiyi Divine Body. He kills multiple elders, grievously injures the survivors, and demonstrates power that terrifies even Bibi Dong, though the transformation’s backlash nearly destroys his body 115.
Eastern Sovereign and the Final War
After recovering and gaining increasingly complete divine authority, Tang Shuo resurrects Zhu Zhuqing with Eastern Sovereign Taiyi’s life power and protects Qian Renxue from Spirit Hall’s influence 133.
He later saves the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect by casually killing Titled Douluo, accepts the title Eastern Sovereign, and warns Bibi Dong that he will come for her 136 137. During Spirit Hall’s war against Heaven Dou, Tang Shuo kills Golden Crocodile Douluo, routs the empire’s army, and confronts Tang San after Tang San becomes the Sea God 140 142.
Tang Shuo destroys the Sea God Trident, strips Tang San of his divine power, and kills him. Qian Renxue then ascends as Empress Wu Zhao, while Tang Shuo, Zhu Zhuqing, and eventually Qian Renxue choose a peaceful rural life over dominion 142 143.
