Background

Xiao Yan was once the celebrated genius of the Xiao Clan, but his cultivation regressed for three years until he was left at the Third Stage of Dou Qi. The cause was Yao Chen’s unconscious absorption of his Dou Qi while existing within the black ring left by Xiao Yan’s mother. 363 365

At his lowest point, Nalan Yanran arrived with representatives of the Misty Cloud Sect to annul their childhood engagement. Xiao Yan publicly rejected the humiliation, issued a three-year challenge, and declared his resolve to rise again. 363
