Background

A Martial Soul is the basis of Soul Master cultivation. Major sects regard inherited Martial Souls as especially valuable: descendants or branch members who awaken a sect’s direct-line Martial Soul may receive inner-disciple status and access to resources. 3

The known forms discussed in the story include Tool Martial Souls, Beast Martial Souls, and Body Martial Souls. Tool Martial Souls are tangible manifestations, while Beast Martial Souls can possess and transform their users. Body Martial Souls use part of the user’s own body as the Martial Soul and possess distinct potential. 5

Body Martial Souls are not recognized by the contemporary Douluo Continent. Their potential increases when the awakened body part is closer to a vital organ; the heart is described as one of the most powerful possible examples. Ten thousand years later, Body Martial Soul users become the foundation of the Body Sect. 5

Tool Martial Souls manifest as objects. Ning Chen’s Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda is an exquisite seven-colored pagoda with seven differently colored eaves; after absorbing the Qiluo Tulip, it evolves into the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. 9 28

A Body Martial Soul uses a body part rather than an external tool or beast form. Ning Chen’s second Martial Soul is his heart, which passively produces Soul Power after its presence is recognized. 5

Ning Chen’s first Martial Soul is the inherited Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School. He initially appears talentless because his innate Soul Power is only half a rank, but the pagoda later develops far beyond normal standards due to unusually high-quality Soul Rings and the Nine Yang Divine Skill. 1 9 10

Concealment and False Martial Souls

Ning Chen cannot publicly reveal the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda because of his connection to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School. He instead uses the Starlight Bracer, an artifact from another world, as a false Martial Soul under the identity Cao Benqi. 19 20
