Background / History

Creation and early settlement

Nüwa gained the insight needed for sainthood after seeing Li Yu create a clay tiger. She used sacred materials to form the first humans from mud, producing nearly ten thousand people in the forests around Mount Buzhou 24.

The first generation knew Nüwa was their creator and revered her as the Human Race’s Holy Mother. Her creation fulfilled the Heavenly Dao, earned her immense merit, and led directly to her ascension as a Saint 25.

Because the newborn race was weak, Houtu persuaded the Wu Clan to allow humans to live and multiply along Mount Buzhou’s outskirts out of respect for Nüwa 25. Humanity subsequently expanded outward from the mountain into the wider Primordial World 25.

Demonic predation and Li Yu's protection

As humanity multiplied, a rumor spread that human essence and blood could benefit cultivation. Demons and wicked cultivators began slaughtering humans for cultivation, artifact refinement, and pill-making 25.

Human tribes prayed to Nüwa for deliverance. Nüwa relayed their pleas to Li Yu, who appeared as her envoy and began protecting them from predators 25. He publicly executed a snake demon threatening the Huaxu Tribe, then spent nearly a year eliminating several thousand demons that had harmed human settlements 26.

Li Yu’s actions earned him the title Holy Envoy among humans. In response, Di Jun ordered the Demon Race not to bully humans, chiefly to repair the Demon Court’s damaged relationship with Nüwa 26.

The Human Sect

Taiqing attained sainthood by establishing the Human Sect to enlighten humanity. He appointed Li Yu as its vice sect leader and left him responsible for its major and minor affairs 33.

As deputy headmaster, Li Yu traveled among tribes to teach cultivation, select gifted individuals, and encourage migration away from Mount Buzhou, which he regarded as an unsafe future battlefield in the Wu–Demon conflict 34.

The Human Sect did not broadly recruit disciples because Taiqing preferred tranquility and non-action. Li Yu nevertheless sought to strengthen the sect through exceptional figures such as Zhu Lingzi 36 37.

The Witch-Slaying Sword crisis

Di Jun secretly ordered the Five Poison Great Demons to poison humans and harvest their souls for the forging of the Witch-Slaying Sword, a weapon intended to counter the Wu Clan 35. More than one hundred thousand human souls failed to enter the Netherworld, disrupting reincarnation and alerting Houtu 37.

Li Yu organized a defense with Hongyun, Zhen Yuanzi, Red Boy, the Three Xiao Sisters, Xuandu, and Wu Clan reinforcements Hou Yi and Kua Fu 38. After defeating the Demon Court’s forces and confronting Taiyi, Li Yu secured the incomplete Witch-Slaying Sword and brought it to the Netherworld instead of destroying it 39 40.

Using Merit Power, Li Yu cleansed the sword and released its one hundred thousand trapped human souls into reincarnation. The remaining weapon retained its destructive strength but gained a righteous aura 40.

Rise after the Wu–Demon Calamity

Humanity continued to grow despite suffering collateral damage from the Wu–Demon conflict. Powerful human cultivators emerged, and some founded sects and passed down their own lineages 41.

After the collapse of the Demon Court and the disappearance of the Wu Clan from Mount Buzhou, Li Yu concluded that humanity no longer required his constant guardianship. He withdrew from directly shaping its history, believing the race could confront future threats on its own 44.

By the time of Haotian’s reincarnation, human tribes had spread throughout the Primordial World, including the Eastern Sea coast. The Human Race remained weaker than the scattered Demon Race in overall high-level strength, but its settlements and cultivation institutions continued to expand 47.

Appearance

The first humans were formed from mud and initially appeared barely clothed, gazing curiously at the newly revealed world around them 24.
