Background
Nüwa resided at Wa Palace on Phoenix Perch Mountain near Mount Buzhou with her elder brother, Fuxi. She was absent visiting Houtu of the Wu Clan when Hongyun and Li Yu first visited the palace, though Hongyun cautioned Li Yu that she was an exceptionally powerful figure destined for greatness. 3
At Hongjun’s first sermon, Nüwa became one of his direct disciples. She later received the Heaven and Earth Furnace and Resting Soil during the second sermon, then claimed the remaining Primordial Gourd Vine at Treasure-Dividing Rock. 7 14
Nüwa opposed Fuxi’s plan to join Di Jun and Taiyi’s Demon Court. After Fuxi’s divination showed that the Wu Clan’s fortune would rival that of the Demon Race, she warned that the two factions were bound for a catastrophic struggle; Fuxi nevertheless honored his promise to join the court. 12 13
When Fuxi was struck by a hidden curse and died, Nüwa immediately sensed his fall and stormed the Demon Court to demand answers. Li Yu convinced her to preserve Fuxi’s remaining soul before pursuing vengeance. With Taiqing and Li Yu’s help, she safeguarded the remnant within the Earth-Society Landscape Scroll until it could later enter reincarnation. 16 17 18 32
While walking with Li Yu near Mount Buzhou, Nüwa gained enlightenment after seeing him create a clay tiger. Using Resting Soil, Primordial Purple Qi, and the Primordial Gourd Vine, she created nearly ten thousand humans. The merit from this act elevated her to sainthood. 24 25
After becoming a Saint, Nüwa moved Phoenix Perch Mountain and Wa Palace beyond the heavens. She remained connected to the Human Race through its prayers, relied on Li Yu to respond to threats against humanity, and later entrusted Fuxi’s soul to him for nurturing within the Six Paths of Reincarnation. 25 27 32
Appearance
Nüwa is described as possessing peerless beauty and an ethereal, transcendent presence. After attaining the Dao, she appears with a human body and serpent tail. 12 29
Personality
Nüwa is cautious, perceptive, and resistant to political ambition. She recognized the danger in the Demon Court’s campaign for unification and repeatedly tried to keep Fuxi from becoming entangled in the Wu–Demon conflict. 12 13
Her defining bond is with Fuxi. His death drove her to confront the Demon Court alone, but she accepted Li Yu’s counsel when preserving his soul became the more urgent priority. She continued visiting Fuxi’s dormant soul out of fear that he would be lonely. 17 24
Despite becoming a Saint, Nüwa remains approachable toward trusted companions. She rejects excessive formality from Li Yu, assists him when needed, and continues to care for the Human Race she created. 27
