Background / History
The Unfixed Pagoda predates Sky Net Star’s Spirit Revival Era. It was constructed over several centuries by a predecessor of the Mirror Moon Sect and originally served as the sect’s trial ground. Its ancient restrictions were also designed to suppress powerful enemies during times of crisis. 27 39
Qing Yuanzi, personal disciple of the Mirror Moon Sect’s fifty-second sect master Ouyang Jie, learned many of the pagoda’s secrets in his youth. Following the sect’s decline, Qing Yuanzi remained connected to the pagoda and guarded its hidden ninth-floor legacy. 36 39
More than thirty years before Lu Yun’s challenge, Qing Yuanzi’s disciple Baili Yuchen reached the ninth floor but failed its hidden mission. Qing Yuanzi subsequently instructed him to reveal the pagoda’s location, allowing it to become humanity’s ultimate Martial Arts Assessment site. 36
Deep beneath the pagoda lies an ancient sealed region containing the Thunderclap Venom Xun Python. When its restraints weakened, Qing Yuanzi entrusted Lu Yun with reinforcing the seal; Lu Yun instead killed the recovering ninth-rank demon beast, ending the immediate threat. 39 42
Layout and Access
- The pagoda has nine floors, with each floor functioning as a successive trial round. 27 29
- It stands near Bluestone Square in a perpetually snowy region with exceptionally dense spiritual energy. 28
- The nearby cultivation area is restricted to people with at least A-rank martial talent or Early Divine Aperture Realm cultivation. 28
- Challengers must be under twenty years old and may attempt the pagoda repeatedly without a stated attempt limit. 28
- A stone stele outside the pagoda records challenge results; reaching the eighth floor causes a challenger’s result to appear immediately. 29
Trial System
Adaptive Combat Trials
The pagoda separates challengers into individual spaces and creates virtual opponents tailored to each challenger’s strength. To advance, a challenger must completely defeat the current floor’s opponents. 29
- The first-floor opponent matched Lu Yun’s Sea-Opening Perfection Realm cultivation and saber-based combat ability. 29
- Later floors increase enemy numbers and pressure rather than simply testing a single opponent. 30 31
- The pagoda’s copies can imitate a challenger’s existing strength, but cannot improve alongside a challenger during battle. 30
- The fourth-floor trial was set to Hell difficulty, producing six coordinated Mid-Star-Gathering Realm opponents against Lu Yun. 31 33
Tower Spirit
A red-clothed woman serves as the pagoda’s tower spirit and announces the assessment rules. She controls the trial process, transports challengers between floors, and oversees the stone-stele records. 29
The tower spirit was shocked when Lu Yun cleared the Hell-difficulty fourth stage, which she believed should have been impossible to pass. 33
Ninth Floor
The ninth floor does not contain the black-clad virtual opponents used in the lower trials. Instead, it contains a study filled with martial manuals and is inhabited by Qing Yuanzi, the one-armed elder who guards the pagoda’s deeper secrets. 36
- Qing Yuanzi reveals information about higher cultivation realms and the Mirror Moon Sect only to challengers he considers qualified. 36 37
- He accepted Lu Yun as his disciple and transmitted the Mirror Moon Sect’s Heavenly Sword Art to him there. 36
- The floor also provides access to the hidden underground region beneath the pagoda. 39 40
Known Challenge Records
| Challenger | Recorded result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Baili Yuchen | Eighth floor publicly recognized | His eighth-floor achievement stood as humanity’s best-known record; Qing Yuanzi later revealed that Baili had also reached the ninth floor but failed its hidden mission. 27 36 |
| Dugu Mingjun | Third floor | He was eliminated by the third-floor man in black while incorrectly assuming Lu Yun had performed worse. 35 |
| Lu Yun | Ninth floor | His name appeared on the stone stele after advancing beyond the eighth floor, creating an unprecedented public record. Qing Yuanzi identifies him as only the third person in history to reach the ninth floor. 35 36 43 |
