Background / History

Qing Yuanzi was the personal disciple of Ouyang Jie, the fifty-second sect master of the Mirror Moon Sect. In his youth, the Unfixed Pagoda served as the sect’s trial ground; Qing Yuanzi learned its secrets and mastered formation arts there. He later survived the sect’s decline and remained within the pagoda to guard its legacy and the sealed Thunderclap Venom Xun Python beneath it 39.

He claimed to be nearly five hundred years old, an age far exceeding what modern cultivators considered possible after the spiritual-energy revival 36. His remaining lifespan and depleted vitality eventually prevented further advancement 45.

More than thirty years before Lu Yun’s arrival, Qing Yuanzi tested Baili Yuchen on the pagoda’s ninth floor. Although Baili reached the floor, he failed Qing Yuanzi’s mysterious mission. Qing Yuanzi subsequently instructed him to make the Unfixed Pagoda’s location public, allowing future young cultivators to challenge it 36.

When Lu Yun became only the third person to reach the ninth floor, Qing Yuanzi accepted him as a disciple and transmitted the Mirror Moon Sect’s Heavenly Sword Art directly into his consciousness 36. After Lu Yun’s sudden ascent to the Nirvana Realm, Qing Yuanzi entrusted him with reinforcing the failing seal on the Thunderclap Venom Xun Python 39.

Lu Yun instead killed the beast, fulfilling Qing Yuanzi’s request while greatly exceeding its original scope. Qing Yuanzi recognized Lu Yun’s extraordinary advancement but continued to warn him that stronger cultivators could return as Sky Net Star’s spiritual energy recovered 44.

Three years later, Qing Yuanzi died of old age. He had intended for Lu Yun to succeed him, but Lu Yun declined the position; Baili Yuchen became the Mirror Moon Sect’s fifty-fourth sect master instead 48.

As a master, he is demanding but sincere. He repeatedly warns Lu Yun against impatience and arrogance, particularly when teaching the Heavenly Sword Art, whose sixth level took Qing Yuanzi fifty years to attain 37. Lu Yun’s impossible rate of progress repeatedly overwhelms his expectations, gradually replacing skepticism with pride and hope for the Mirror Moon Sect’s future 38 39.
