History

Clan village and Uchiha marginalization

Konoha was a village founded and sustained by shinobi clans, while the fertile Land of Fire supplied the resources that enabled its growth 7 29. Its political order depended on the daimyo funding the village while shinobi protected the country, an arrangement later challenged by Uchiha Kyu 75.

Before Kyu’s takeover, the Uchiha Clan retained nominal control of the Police Department, but its authority over arrests, investigations, and public order had largely been displaced by the Anbu 15. Kyu regarded this decline, the clan’s confinement, and the loss of its political influence as deliberate restrictions imposed by Konoha’s leadership 15.

Uchiha conflict and seizure of power

Kyu’s faction targeted the younger generations of Konoha’s major clans to create a generational gap and weaken the village’s future power base 7 22. The resulting conflict escalated into open fighting around the Uchiha Compound, with the Nara, Akimichi, Yamanaka, Sarutobi, Shimura, Aburame, Inuzuka, and other clans mobilizing against the Uchiha 35 42.

After the night-long battle, Konoha’s defeated clan heads submitted to Kyu’s terms, surrendering personnel, business revenue, and departmental appointments 46. Minato Namikaze then resigned as Hokage and publicly named Kyu the Fifth Hokage, legitimizing the transfer of authority while seeking protection for Kushina Uzumaki 46.

Uchiha-led administration

As Fifth Hokage, Kyu reorganized Konoha’s institutions around allies and former rivals:

• Orochimaru became director of the Scientific Research Department, which received priority resources and authority to mobilize Anbu personnel. 47
• Hyuga Hiashi served as Hokage advisor and director of the Medical Department. 47 48
• Fugaku Uchiha became captain of the Konoha Military Police Force and later headed Security. 47 48
• Minato Namikaze became director of the Anbu despite his removal from the Hokage position. 47 48
• Uchiha Shisui was appointed head of Intelligence, which absorbed Interrogation. 48

Kyu also used the Education Department to promote a revised Will of Fire and shape future generations’ loyalty to the Uchiha-led government 48. His administration increasingly relied on intimidation, patronage, ideological education, and the redistribution of offices and resources among supportive clans 47 48 64.

Break with the daimyo

Following Konoha’s victories over rival villages, the Land of Fire’s daimyo demanded control of mines seized from Iwagakure. Kyu rejected the demand, declaring that Konoha had taken the mines by force and would decide their use itself 69.

Konoha’s attack on the daimyo’s residence shattered trust between shinobi villages and their civilian rulers. Daimyo across the Shinobi World condemned Kyu and feared similar rebellions within their own countries 72. After the daimyo’s death and the capture of the Land of Fire’s capital, Konoha relocated there, distributed former retainer property among shinobi clans, and purged bandits, rogue ninja, and internal resistance 79.

Imperial transformation

Konoha shinobi were formally renamed imperial soldiers, and all Immortal Empire citizens capable of serving were subject to mandatory mobilization 109. The Hokage title was subsequently abolished, though officials continued using it informally during the transition 106.

After the Immortal Empire conquered the world, fallen Uchiha were commemorated at Konoha’s former site 156. By the time Madara and Izuna Uchiha were revived, Uchiha Shin described Konoha as destroyed by the Uchiha Clan and the shinobi-village era as ended 216.

Institutions and Economy

• The Konoha Police Department was traditionally led by the Uchiha clan head and held broad legal authority, including village-entry registration, arrests, investigations, and public-order enforcement. Its practical authority was weakened before Kyu’s rise by Anbu encroachment. 15
• The Uchiha secured control of the Three Great Streets surrounding their compound, then used Police Force authority to suppress rival shops and direct commerce toward Uchiha-controlled markets. 22 28
• Konoha’s expanded benefits and clan patronage produced a fiscal crisis; Hyuga Hiashi answered it by organizing the Peace Envoys, merchant caravans protected by Konoha shinobi that sold wartime supplies and exploited seized mines, factories, and food resources. 107
• Under the Empire, chakra cultivation was made public and schools were established across imperial territory to identify and train future soldiers for the Imperial Academy. 109

Relationships

• Uchiha Clan — A founding clan whose police authority and political influence declined under Konoha’s previous leadership; it seized control of the village under Uchiha Kyu and ultimately replaced its political order. 7 15 46 216
• Hyuga Clan — Kyu’s principal clan ally. The Hyuga gained commercial access, government offices, and authority within Konoha in return for political and military support. 22 27 47
• Land of Fire Daimyo — Konoha’s traditional patron and financial supporter; their relationship collapsed after Kyu rejected daimyo control over war gains and arranged an attack on the daimyo’s residence. 69 72 75
• Immortal Empire — Konoha’s successor state. Its military, bureaucracy, education system, and territorial expansion were built from Konoha’s institutions, personnel, and resources. 109 156 216
• Other hidden villages — Initially Konoha’s military rivals, they became targets of Kyu’s campaigns against Kirigakure, Sunagakure, Iwagakure, Amegakure, and other powers. 48 64 80

Symbols and Legacy

• Uchiha Kyu ordered the Hokage faces on Hokage Rock demolished as a rejection of the previous regime’s ceremonial legacy. 47
• Uchiha Okamoto later erected a massive statue of Kyu at the former site of Hokage Rock. 49 73
• The former Konoha site became a memorial ground for Uchiha war dead after the Immortal Empire’s worldwide victory. 156

Dragon Vein Parallel World

A separate Konoha exists in the parallel world accessed through the Dragon Vein. This counterpart was governed by Third Hokage Sarutobi Yuezan and Fourth Hokage Namikaze Huo Men, and remained hostile to the Immortal Empire’s expansion 149 167.

After the Empire defeated Huo Men’s forces, Uchiha Qiongyue led his world’s Uchiha Clan in an armed escape from Konoha. Uchiha Ying’s reinforcements and covertly aligned clan elites enabled the clan to break through Konoha’s defenses while Qiongyue’s Susanoo held off the Third and Fourth Hokage 169 170.
