History

Marginalization within Konoha

Before Uchiha Kyu’s rise, the clan was politically isolated within Konoha. Its traditional authority over the Konoha Police Department had been hollowed out by Anbu interference, while many members believed the village had withheld resources, war compensation, and meaningful political influence. 15 16

The clan’s internal condition was also unstable. Members without the Sharingan faced severe discrimination regardless of their individual skill, and the lack of a long-term development plan left the clan stagnant. 16

Naka Shrine served as the clan’s ceremonial and political center. Its hidden stone tablet, accessible only to successive clan heads, had been altered by Black Zetsu and used to manipulate generations of Uchiha, including Madara. 13

Kyu’s Coup and Centralization

Kyu built a radical faction from younger and dissatisfied Uchiha, using his Mangekyō Sharingan and promises of restoration to secure loyalty. His followers seized the compound, suppressed Fugaku loyalists, and used Mikoto and Itachi as leverage against Fugaku. 3 4

Fugaku formally resigned as clan head at Naka Shrine. Kyu defeated the elders Yata, Jinpu, and Hirota, abolished the elder system, and declared that the clan would henceforth obey the clan head alone. 13

Kyu subsequently placed the compound under lockdown, demanded loyalty from the entire clan, and appointed Fugaku as his assistant for routine administration and negotiations. 14 15

Civil War and Uchiha Ascendancy

Kyu used war, political pressure, and conflict with Konoha to force the clan’s rapid development. Uchiha forces were deployed to the front lines specifically to gain battlefield experience, while the clan’s enemies were pushed into exposing their strength. 18 29 32

When Konoha’s major clans assaulted the Uchiha Compound, Fugaku had already evacuated noncombatants through underground passages and prepared a counterattack. The Uchiha fought alongside Orochimaru and Hyuga reinforcements against the purge force. 35 36

The battle cost the clan heavily, but the desperate defense triggered a clan-wide Sharingan awakening among the survivors. Kyu’s victory eventually led to his ascent as Fifth Hokage, reversing the Uchiha’s former political position. 45 53

Imperial Era

Under the Immortal Empire, the Uchiha became the dominant clan in the Land of Fire and later the wider world. Their influence expanded through military command, commercial control, intelligence networks, elite training, and alliances with the Hyuga Clan and Orochimaru. 28 65 91 156

The clan adopted a long-term program of population growth, ideological education, centralized hidden guards, and controlled Sharingan development. Ordinary members received material support, while children were raised to prioritize clan interests and remember the Uchiha’s past oppression. 156 246

By the time of the Dragon Vein expeditions, the clan was no longer focused solely on surviving Konoha. Its stated ambition had become expansion into other worlds and eventual confrontation with the Ōtsutsuki Clan. 166 246
