Background

Tsunade was born to the Senju line but received the title Hime no Mikoto from the Daimyo and consequently no longer used the Senju surname. Her status as an Imperial Princess placed her within the Daimyo’s bloodline; under strict protocol, even the Hokage would have been expected to bow to her.
