History

The first recorded casting occurs after Xu Mo receives a blood-bound Darkhold whose purified mana has been made safe for long-term use by Star Ji. The book’s symbols enter his mind as comprehensible knowledge, and Spatial Gate is the first spell he studies. His peak Warlord-level spiritual strength allows him to cast it immediately, but not accurately or safely 37 38.

Xu Mo corrects his initial instability through repeated study, soon using the spell to return directly to Wanda’s villa 39. He later teaches Spatial Gate—also called Space Teleportation in the Zombie World—to contracted subordinates, making it a central tool for undead deployment, evacuation, supply transport, and fortified-base construction 61 66 71.

As Xu Mo’s magical power and control improve, the spell becomes a strategic transport system rather than a personal travel method. Gates move a cruise ship onto a skyscraper, funnel zombies across cities, access hidden realms, and transfer heavy construction equipment between worlds 71 72 147 327.

Properties & Limitations

Traversable spatial passage

Spatial Gates link two separate locations through an open portal large enough for people, vehicles, or larger objects to cross.

• Xu Mo can use one to travel between distant sites, such as an island cave and a seaside villa 39.
• Kim Min-hee leads Skeleton Soldiers and Undead Knights through a gate while operating in the Zombie World 66 71.
• A gate may open to an unintended location when cast by an inexperienced user, including classrooms, oceans, or dangerous zombie-infested areas 66 70.
• The sparks around an active gate are hazardous enough that Xu Mo warns Kim Min-hee against touching them 61.

Variable size

A gate’s aperture can be enlarged to accommodate major transfers.

• Xu Mo creates a gate over fifty meters wide to move an entire cruise ship, though opening part of it beneath the sea also sends seawater through with the vessel 71.
• Darkhold amplification allows Xu Mo to sustain three roughly fifty-meter gates simultaneously 72.
• Later, he creates a spatial passage over one hundred meters in diameter for oversized machinery and military personnel 327.

Magic source and visual forms

The spell’s appearance and power source vary with the caster and method used.

• Xu Mo’s early Darkhold gates emit black sparks and rely on purified mana stored in the Darkhold 37 38.
• Wanda manifests a purple gate while reopening her route to Taro Village 147.
• Xu Mo can also cast a golden version after studying Kamar-Taj spellbooks and powering it with his own cosmic energy 150.
• Contracted casters may borrow magical power from Xu Mo to use the spell 127.

Spatial-law enhancement

The Space Stone identifies portal creation as an application of the teleportation branch of spatial laws.

• Spatial laws are divided into teleportation, Spatial Lockdown, and Spatial Rend categories; opening portals belongs to teleportation 239.
• With the Space Stone, Xu Mo can open gateways to locations anywhere in the universe 239.
• The Stone can also isolate an area from external space, preventing spatial abilities from entering or leaving it while allowing ordinary movement within 239.

• Xu Mo — First documented caster; uses the spell for travel, combat logistics, extraction, intercity zombie deployment, and large-scale transport 38 39 71 72 327.
• Wanda — Recreates a gate to a hidden Chinese realm and later accompanies Xu Mo through it 147.
• Kim Min-hee — Learns the spell in less than a day; initially struggles with destination accuracy before using it for travel and operations 66 70 71.
• Kim Li-su — Learns Space Teleportation on her first day of training alongside her sister 71.
• Alyssa — Also masters Space Teleportation unusually quickly in the Zombie World 71.

Distinctions

• Dimensional Teleportation is a separate system ability that opens gateways to other universes. It costs 100 million points and is not the same as the Spatial Gate spell 4 217.
• Dreamwalking is another distinct method of crossing worlds: it transfers Xu Mo’s consciousness into a parallel-world counterpart rather than moving his physical body through a portal 43.
• During the convergence of the Nine Realms, naturally occurring Spatial Gates can appear independently and close automatically; Kamar-Taj guards them to prevent Dormammu’s invasion 276.
• Skyfire’s Cybertronian Space Bridge is a technological spatial-passage system rather than Spatial Gate magic; it cannot function inside Xu Mo’s Mirror Dimension 258.
