Background

Tony and Xu Mo were already close associates before Xu became a Stark Industries shareholder. Both had reputations as collectors and fixtures of entertainment gossip, and their shared ownership interests strengthened their friendship. Tony retained 39% of Stark Industries after Xu acquired 30%, making Xu the company’s second-largest shareholder. 3

Tony’s armor concealed a serious vulnerability: shrapnel lodged near his heart was held in place by an Arc Reactor, which was also causing palladium poisoning. After Xu revealed that he knew Tony’s secret, Tony agreed to provide him with a powered suit and future upgrades in exchange for treatment. Xu removed the shrapnel with Psychic Force, immediately easing Tony’s chest pain and breathing problems. 44
