History

• Tajima’s weapon: Uchiha Tajima carried the Gunbai when confronting Senju Butsuma. It later helped him survive a difficult campaign against the Hyūga Clan, and he used it to strike Kaguya ninja during the assault on their clan grounds 3 8 11.
• Madara’s weapon: Madara wielded it against Hashirama’s greatsword. His blows carried enough force for the fan to strike like an iron hammer 14 46.
• Obito’s possession: The Gunbai later appeared among Madara’s belongings in Obito’s cavern. Obito used it against Killer B and during his attacks on the Uchiha Clan 161 175 176.
• Madara’s later use: In another world, Madara relied on the Gunbai when the lack of chakra prevented most Uchiha ninjutsu. He also incorporated its material into his body through the Assimilation Fruit 204 213.

Properties and Combat Use

• Construction: The Gunbai was made from the trunk of the Divine Tree and is described as exceptionally hard 233.
• Blunt-force weapon: Madara swung it like a hammer to block a Marine vice admiral’s Armament Haki–coated sword. Obito used a downward blow to break one of Killer B’s blades 175 200.
• Defense: Obito swung it to reflect incoming flames into the sky. Madara used it to block a ranged air-blade attack 176 200.
• Flaming slashes: Madara could generate sparks by swinging the Gunbai at high speed, then carry the resulting flames into a flying slash. One such strike melted part of Pica’s stone arm; a later strike left only a faint scorch mark on Kaido 204 212.
• Assimilation: Madara used his Devil Fruit ability to take on the Gunbai’s material properties, greatly increasing his bodily toughness. He later stored the weapon inside his body and drew it out when needed 213 233.
