Background

Sasuke grows up in the Uchiha household as the younger son of Takuya and Mikoto and Itachi’s younger brother. Unlike his original tragic fate, he is raised in a stable, affectionate family environment and remains a cheerful, well-adjusted child despite his reserved manner 197.

Naruto’s permanent move into the Uchiha home initially devastates Sasuke. He sees Naruto’s acceptance by Itachi as a threat to his exclusive bond with his older brother and objects to Naruto calling Itachi “Big Brother Itachi” 30. Over time, the two develop a sibling-like relationship defined by rivalry, insults, shared training, and quiet mutual support 70 98.

Sasuke is aware of the Uchiha Sharingan from an early age and becomes eager to awaken it after learning that intense emotion can trigger the dōjutsu. His impatience leads him to jokingly suggest that mistakenly believing his father dead might awaken his eyes, drawing Mikoto’s disapproval 101. By the story’s later years, he possesses Mangekyō Sharingan abilities with Takuya’s assistance 513.

Personality

Sasuke is proud, competitive, and serious about becoming stronger. He dislikes being compared unfavorably to Naruto and becomes increasingly concerned when Naruto’s rapid growth threatens his own ambition to become Hokage 101 469.

He often presents himself as cool and aloof, dismissing Naruto as an idiot and reacting impatiently to Sakura’s attention. However, he consistently reveals concern through actions rather than words: he objects when Sakura humiliates Naruto, agrees to train Naruto after Kiba’s defeat, and deliberately dirties his own clothes so Naruto will not feel ashamed of returning home dirty 68 70.

His strongest early attachment is to Itachi. Sasuke openly seeks Itachi’s approval, proudly mentions techniques taught by him, and repeatedly wants to remain close to him 30 200. At the Academy, Sasuke is admired for his skill and appearance, while Naruto is mocked as the “dead last.” Sasuke becomes uncomfortable with Sakura’s cruel treatment of Naruto and takes an interest in Naruto’s unexplained chakra problem after Naruto loses to Kiba 68 69.

He agrees to train Naruto after the defeat and later joins Mikoto’s lessons. Sasuke’s jealousy over Naruto receiving attention fades when he realizes Naruto was never taught basic chakra-extraction methods 70 98.

Fire Release Training and Sharingan Ambition
