Background
Arrival in the Douluo Continent
Gu Hengzhi was originally an unemployed university graduate from Blue Star. Contact with an ancient book transported him to the Douluo Continent, leaving him with violently damaged meridians and blood energy. He was discovered as a barely living, blood-covered infant amid a village destroyed by powerful Soul Masters. 1
Su Yuntao brought him to Notting City, spent heavily on his treatment, and became his first protector. During his recovery, Gu realized he had arrived in the era of Tang San and began searching his consciousness for the unresponsive God-Sealing Record. 1 2
Over the following five years, Gu supported himself by writing novels. His income gave him early independence, but he regarded martial soul awakening as his essential chance to survive in the Douluo world. 2
Martial Soul Awakening and the Huaxia Divine Way
At age six, Gu awakened a broken, unfinished Stone Statue Martial Soul and Innate Level-Five Soul Power. The statue appeared defective, but its ancient aura and the God-Sealing Record’s immediate reaction revealed that it held hidden significance. 3 4
The God-Sealing Record taught him that a divine vessel requires stone as its body, soul as its guide, faith as its lamp, and incense as its bridge. His first attempt to carve and invite the Jade Emperor failed because his cultivation and ordinary stone could not endure such a high-ranking deity’s power. 4 6 8
Gu instead carved the Earth Deity directly from his own martial soul. The process drained his soul power and threatened to erase memories and emotions, but he completed the statue and successfully summoned the first deity recorded in the God-Sealing Record: Blessed-Land True Deity · Eastern Land Earth Deity. 8 9
The Earth Deity warned him that Tang San bears the plane’s fortune: killing Tang before his ascension could collapse the world. Gu consequently shifted from seeking Tang San’s death to obstructing his path while creating an independent destiny. 9
Notting Academy and the Tang San Rivalry
Gu entered Notting Junior Soul Master Academy at Rank 6, refusing Yu Xiaogang’s offer of discipleship after recognizing that Yu wanted to use his martial soul as a research subject. Yu retaliated by assigning him to the neglected Seven House dormitory. 11 12
He defeated Seven House’s strongest student, Wang Sheng, without releasing a soul ring, using earth-based defense, movement, and the Great Wilderness Heaven-Prison Finger. Despite the severity of the fight, he gave Wang Sheng medicine afterward. 13 14
Gu built a Spirit Field on the academy’s back mountain by directing Faith Power into an Earth Vein. The field accelerated cultivation and herb growth, eventually funding his cultivation through medicinal-herb sales. 16 18 20
After Tang San entered Seven House, Gu attempted to alert Spirit Hall to Tang San, Tang Hao, and Xiao Wu through anonymous letters. The letters were intercepted, forcing Gu to abandon direct schemes and focus on his own growth. 21 22
Tang San later stole the contents of Gu’s Spirit Field. Gu responded by establishing the Mountain-Subduing Lost Paths Formation, reporting the theft with legal evidence, and confronting Tang San in a public soul battle. 30 31
Gu defeated Tang San despite Tang’s concealed weapons and Zhuge Repeating Crossbow. He deliberately spared Tang San after the Earth Deity reminded him of the consequences of killing the world’s favored figure. 33 34
Peace Hotel and Righteous Heaven Academy
After graduating from Notting Junior Soul Master Academy, Gu rejected invitations from intermediate academies. He cultivated independently while expanding the Peace Hotel, a neutral sanctuary where guests must abandon personal grudges. 36
Using the Kitchen God’s power, he turned the hotel into a high-end establishment whose dishes provide combat and cultivation enhancements. He recruited Wang Sheng and other former Seven House residents into the Peace Guard and opened branches across major cities. 36
In Soto City, Gu met Zhu Zhuqing and exposed Dai Mubai’s infidelity. Following later conflicts with Dai and Ma Hongjun, Zhu Zhuqing cared for Gu while he recovered from the blood-costly Day and Night: Samsara Tribulation. 37 39 42
Gu and Zhu Zhuqing subsequently enrolled in Righteous Heaven Academy, where Gu was recognized as a Level-30-plus talent and began preparing for his third Soul Ring. 42 43
Appearance
Following his first Soul Ring absorption, Gu’s body became noticeably sturdier, his skin gained a jade-like sheen, and his earlier clothing no longer fit his strengthened frame. 26
- Often wears the dark-blue Zhongshan suit associated with Peace Hotel. 36
- Pairs it with a white cotton shirt, black leather belt, and a vintage silver watch. 36
- His Stone Statue Martial Soul can transform into dragon-scale-like battle robes during combat. 27
Personality
Gu is disciplined, analytical, and intensely self-reliant. He studies his powers through direct testing, values steady foundations over unstable speed, and combines cultivation, agriculture, commerce, and divine faith into a long-term strategy. 10 18 20
He is highly suspicious of authority figures who seek to exploit him. His refusal of Yu Xiaogang’s mentorship and later rejection of invasive questions about his martial soul reflect his insistence that a Soul Master’s abilities are private. 12 31
Gu can be calculating and vindictive toward Tang San, Yu Xiaogang, and others he considers threats. However, he also demonstrates restraint: he treated Wang Sheng after defeating him, protects allies through his hotel and supplies, and spared Tang San despite wanting revenge. 14 34 49
Abilities & Skills
Stone Statue Martial Soul
Gu’s martial soul initially manifests as an incomplete, ancient stone statue. Its apparent incompleteness conceals its role as a vessel for Huaxia deities and the God-Sealing Record. 3 8
- Can be carved into divine statues through the Soul-Carving Blade. 8
- Acts as the medium through which summoned deities descend and grant power. 9
- Becomes denser and more lifelike after Soul Ring absorption. 26
- Gu limits himself to manifesting one divine idol at a time to avoid revealing his full strength and attracting suppression from the Douluo plane and God Realm. 39
Earth Deity Divine Powers
The Earth Deity provides Gu with earth-element abilities emphasizing defense, endurance, terrain control, and stable cultivation. 10
- Earth Vein Acceleration — Builds sustained movement speed while Gu remains in contact with the ground. It loses effectiveness if he leaves the ground. 10
- Earth Element Bodyguard — Forms adjustable full-body stone armor; Gu can concentrate its power at a point, such as his finger, for offense. 10
- Earth Vein Meditation — Draws energy from Earth Veins to cultivate soul power gradually and steadily. 10
- Earthfire Sensitivity / Earth God’s Divine Will — Lets Gu sense Earth Vein fluctuations, locate low-grade spirit plants, and control cooking heat through the ground. 11
God-Summoning: Earth Deity
Gu’s first Soul Ring grants God-Summoning: Earth Deity, allowing him to channel the Earth Deity’s statue, defenses, and transformed equipment. 26 27
- Earth Wall Technique — Raises durable barriers for defense or battlefield control. 27 33
- Earthfall Technique and Earth Spike Technique — Slow, trap, or impale opponents through terrain manipulation. 28 33
- Form Transformation — Converts the statue into a dragon-scaled battle robe that improves defense by 10% to 25%. 27
- Dragon-Headed Cane — Functions as both hammer and spear; attacks have a 25% chance to petrify or inflict bleeding, though the same target can only be petrified once every five seconds. 27
- Great Wilderness Heaven-Prison Finger — Concentrates earth energy into a devastating finger strike; its later empowered form manifests an enormous hand phantom. 14 34
Faith Power and Spirit Field Creation
Gu gathers worship from Seven House students as Incense Offerings, which the Earth Deity purifies into Tier-One Faith Power. 16
- Faith Power can nurture herbs and potentially strengthen objects, medicine, weapons, statues, and land. 16
- A functioning Spirit Field requires Faith Power to reach and activate an Earth Vein; merely scattering power over the surface is ineffective. 17
- Cultivation within Gu’s completed Spirit Field circulates spiritual energy approximately 20% faster. 18
- The field accelerates plant growth but cannot turn low-quality seeds into genuine spirit herbs without suitable inherent potential. 18
- Mountain-Subduing Lost Paths Formation — Uses Earth Vein nodes and Earth Deity statues to disorient and trap intruders; it can be strengthened with Tier-One Faith Power. 30
Day-and-Night Patrol Gods
Gu can summon the Day-and-Night Patrol Gods Statue, granting distinct power during day and night. 40
- Day Patrol God — Increases strength by 50% during daylight and by 25% when its condition is not met. 40
- Night Patrol God — Increases speed by 50% at night and by 25% otherwise. 40
- Great Sun Flame Wheel — A sun-like cutting weapon that releases heat and light waves; its power peaks at noon and falls to 50% at night. 40
- Shadow Binding Kill — A darkness-based assassination technique that becomes stronger at night. 40
- Day and Night: Samsara Tribulation — An ultimate move that consumed ten drops of Gu’s vital blood and left him unconscious for one day and two nights. 42
Kitchen God Food Enhancement
After gaining his second Soul Ring from a nine-hundred-year Solar Beetle, Gu acquired another God-Summoning ability centered on food support. 36
- In statue form, prepared food can grant one 20% increase to speed, soul power, strength, defense, or mental power. 36
- In possession form, Gu can create food without ingredients and raises the enhancement by an additional 10%. 36
- His divinely protected Gourmet Space preserves ingredients and prepared dishes indefinitely. 36
- He can create candy beans that enhance strength, defense, or speed and remain effective for one week. 49
Equipment, Assets, and Companions
- God-Sealing Record — A relic of the Huaxia Remnant Realm containing divine consciousness traces and vacant divine seats for future carvings. 9 27
- Earth Deity Statue — The first deity permanently recorded in the God-Sealing Record and Gu’s primary divine vessel. 9
- Xiao Qing — The former Mutated Azure Bull, transformed by the Earth Deity into a stone-statue mount and spirit pet; later approaches the strength of a thousand-year Soul Beast. 26 49
- Peace Hotel — Gu’s continent-spanning neutral hotel enterprise, supported by the Peace Guard and associated herb gardens. 36
Relationships
- Su Yuntao — Rescuer, caretaker, and early mentor who spent much of his income on Gu’s recovery and accompanied him on his first Soul Ring hunt. 1 2 23
- Earth Deity — First summoned Huaxia deity, mentor, protector, and source of Gu’s earth-based powers; advises him to forge an independent destiny rather than kill Tang San. 9 10
- Tang San — Principal rival. Gu seeks to obstruct Tang’s fate, suspects him of stealing the Spirit Field, and defeats him in a soul battle while deliberately sparing his life. 21 30 34
- Yu Xiaogang — Hostile former would-be mentor. Gu rejects Yu’s attempt to study his martial soul and repeatedly challenges his motives and theories. 12 31
- Wang Sheng — Former Seven House challenger defeated by Gu; later recruited into the Peace Guard. 14 36
- Zhu Zhuqing — Trusted companion who accepted Gu’s help after confronting Dai Mubai’s conduct, cared for Gu during his recovery, and enrolled with him at Righteous Heaven Academy. 37 42 43
- Tie Hong — Vice Principal of Righteous Heaven Academy who recognized Gu’s talent and later received Gu’s temporary Sun-Moon Prohibition to suppress his unstable martial soul. 43 48
- Kong Ling — Headmaster of Righteous Heaven Academy and a developing ally; Gu proposed that her students work as Peace Guards rather than pay direct compensation for hotel damage. 48
