In the world of Naruto, south of the Land of Fire, amid a stretch of coastal waters, lay a small territory known as the Land of Waves.
Though it was called a country, it was hardly different from a small city. Its entire population amounted to little more than ten thousand.
For many years, the whole country had remained isolated from the outside world, connected to it only by a single bridge. It could be considered one of the most inconspicuous countries in the world.
On a somewhat desolate street, pedestrians in bamboo hats and ragged clothes walked back and forth. Some weathered wooden houses stood along both sides of the road, looking as though they had been there for many years.
People came and went, working tirelessly and struggling desperately just to survive. From above, it looked like a bleak and heartbreaking painting.
Yet amid such a scene, there was one exception.
At the intersection of two streets stood an unremarkable stall. Beside its antique wooden table was a banner bearing two large lines of words: "Fortune-telling and feng shui readings; foretell wealth and destiny."
Then, a youth who looked sixteen or seventeen came into view.
He was completely out of place among the surrounding crowd. He wore a dark Taoist robe, with a wooden hairpin tucked into his slightly messy topknot. His handsome face carried a trace of laziness and fatigue.
At that moment, he was slumped over the table, supporting his head with one hand. His eyes drooped as he yawned absentmindedly.
Yet this indolent young man gave off an indescribably otherworldly air, as though he did not belong in this world at all.
His name was Chen Feng. Due to an accident, he had transmigrated here from the Heavenly Dynasty, and he was now carrying out a mission required by some damned system.
"Wuaaah..."
Chen Feng stretched lazily, narrowing his eyes as he muttered, "So boring. I want to sleep..."
As he spoke, his upper and lower eyelids slowly drifted closer together, about to close completely.
Just then, a loud bang sounded by his ear as a rough palm slammed onto the table in front of him, making it tremble slightly.
The youth looked up and saw a burly middle-aged man standing before the table, his face covered in flesh and his build broad and thick. He wore a savage, arrogant expression, with a samurai sword hanging at his waist.
Behind him stood more than a dozen thuggish-looking men, all holding machetes and wooden clubs, their manner utterly menacing.
Looking at this group of people who might as well have written "I'm a villain" across their faces, Chen Feng showed no concern at all. Still looking lazy, he said, "Are you all here for a reading? Please line up."
At those words, the gang burst out laughing before threatening him harshly. "What reading? We're here to collect protection money!"
"Protection money? That sounds familiar."
Chen Feng replied lazily.
The brawny leader snorted. "I heard you're rich. You hand out tens of thousands of taels every day to help those poor people. Coincidentally, the brothers have been short on money lately, so why don't you help us out too?
"It doesn't have to be much. One million taels per person will do. Hahaha!"
"Sorry, I don't feed trash."
Chen Feng answered flatly.
The man snorted, murder flashing through his eyes as he said coldly, "Heh, aren't you good at divination? Then calculate this—what am I about to do?"
As he spoke, he drew the samurai sword from his waist.
Chen Feng glanced at him and casually said, "I think you're about to get beaten up."
Hearing this, the group laughed as if they had heard a joke. "Get beaten up? By you?"
Chen Feng flicked his eyes toward them. "Yeah. Want to try?"
"The kid's got guts!"
Their faces turned vicious as they surrounded him...
At the same time, a group of five on the nearby street happened to witness everything.
"What are those people doing up ahead?"
A blond boy of twelve or thirteen adjusted the Konoha forehead protector on his head and asked as he narrowed his eyes.
Though he was human, several whisker-like marks ran across both of his cheeks, giving him a rather unusual appearance.
Hearing his question, a scruffy middle-aged man wearing glasses hurriedly said, "They're Gato's men. They've bullied the villagers plenty of times.
"Taoist Chen is a good man. Please save him!"
The blond boy's expression immediately sharpened. Opening his eyes wide, he said, "So they're that bastard Gato's lackeys! They actually dare to bully people? We have to teach them a hard lesson!"
As he spoke, he rolled up his sleeves and prepared to charge over like a hotheaded fool.
But just as he was about to take a step, a hand landed on his shoulder from behind. "Wait, Naruto."
A white-haired young man wearing green chainmail and a black mask stepped forward, stopping him.
Naruto turned to the person behind him and said, "Kakashi-sensei, I'm going to knock all these bad guys down!"
Kakashi looked at Chen Feng, who was completely surrounded, and calmly asked, "If an ordinary person encountered this situation, what would they do?"
"Kakashi-sensei, at a time like this, why are you asking such a weird question?"
Naruto was somewhat agitated. He had often been bullied as a child, and now that he had finally become a ninja, of course he wanted to stand up for others.
At that moment, the cold-looking youth dressed in Uchiha attire beside him snorted. "You can't even understand such a simple question. What a dead last!"
Naruto instantly bristled and turned toward him. "Idiot Sasuke, what did you say?!"
Sasuke's expression carried a hint of coldness and disdain as he said, "Normally, if an ordinary person ran into Gato's men looking for trouble, their first reaction would definitely be to run.
"Yet this man hasn't moved at all. There are only two explanations. Either he's an idiot, or he has something to rely on."
After hearing this, Naruto understood as well, though he stubbornly retorted, "I knew that already, you smug Sasuke!"
"All right, let's watch for now."
Kakashi lifted his eyes and continued watching. He felt that this young man was somehow different.
At that moment, Chen Feng was already trapped within the encirclement, yet his face still bore a completely unconcerned expression.
Just as an iron rod was about to smash into him, he shifted his body slightly, narrowly avoiding the blow. At the same time, he casually struck out with his right palm.
This seemingly light palm strike actually carried the weight of a thousand jun. With one blow, it possessed the force to split metal and shatter stone...
