After they had recognized each other, Little Fairy looked at An Yi's carefree appearance, as though he had just crawled out of some remote mountain forest, and could not help asking softly, "You just came out of the mountains. Do you have anywhere to stay in town?"
"Not yet." An Yi spread his hands. "I just finished eating and was planning to wander around the streets, find an agreeable inn, and sleep for the night."
"Inns are full of all sorts of people. You've only just eaten, and it'd be quite a mood-killer if you ran into more trouble." Little Fairy pursed her lips in a smile and warmly invited him, "How about... staying at my place for now? I have my own residence in the back courtyard of the Ten Thousand Medicine Hall. It's quite peaceful."
"Sure. I'd be honored to accept."
An Yi naturally agreed without hesitation. With a beautiful physician's private courtyard available, who would go squeeze into an inn reeking of sweat?
Thus, Little Fairy led An Yi toward the Ten Thousand Medicine Hall, the two walking side by side.
However, as they made their way there, the number of heads they turned was simply off the charts.
One was Little Fairy, the famous dream girl in the hearts of countless mercenaries in town; the other was a handsome young man in flowing white robes, his silver-white hair exceptionally eye-catching.
The two of them together made for an absurdly pleasing sight.
But it also instantly gave countless mercenaries on the street a serious case of jealousy.
Countless gazes filled with envy and hostility seemed ready to bore holes into An Yi's back.
Still, when those mercenaries saw the genuine delight on Little Fairy's face and realized she clearly knew the white-haired young man well, none of them were foolish enough to actually step forward and make trouble in the street.
Before long, they arrived at the back courtyard of the Ten Thousand Medicine Hall.
It was an elegant, secluded little estate, its courtyard planted with all manner of medicinal herbs that gave off a faint fragrance and left one feeling refreshed.
Pushing open the door, Little Fairy led An Yi inside.
The moment they entered, Little Fairy took out a small, exquisite jade vial from her robes, poured out a drop of pale red liquid, and, without explanation, smeared it over An Yi's palm.
"What's this for?" An Yi rubbed his hand and asked curiously.
"My room has poison in it." Little Fairy put away the jade vial, walked to the table, and poured two cups of warm water. "With this antidote applied, you'll be fine."
An Yi raised an eyebrow, pulled out a chair, and sat down. "Do you feel that unsafe living here? You even keep poison in your own room."
Little Fairy handed him a cup of water, sat opposite him, and sighed helplessly.
"Can't be helped. I'm a weak woman who hasn't even reached the Dou Practitioner level, yet I was born with a face that's passable enough. If I didn't take extra precautions, how could I have survived until today?"
Hearing those somewhat bitter but realistic words, An Yi nodded in deep agreement.
A common man with a treasure invited disaster. In the Battle Qi Continent, where the strong preyed on the weak, beauty without the strength to match it was the deadliest poison of all.
"Then what was going on when you went alone into the Magic Beast Mountain Range to gather herbs and got chased by a poisonous snake?" An Yi took a sip of water and casually asked, "Your safety awareness doesn't seem all that great either."
Little Fairy's fair cheeks reddened slightly, and she defended herself somewhat awkwardly.
"That was an accident! I originally found a mercenary squad of more than ten people and entered the mountains with them. Then we encountered a magic beast attack midway through. Everything was too chaotic, and I got separated from them..."
The corner of An Yi's eye twitched.
Separated? More like they had been separated from life.
He suddenly remembered that, the day before he encountered Little Fairy being chased by a snake half a year ago, he had happened to run into a mercenary squad of around ten people nearby.
Those guys had coveted the Tiger Soul Halberd in his hands and insisted on killing him to take it. In the end, he casually chopped them all up into fertilizer.
So those unlucky bastards had been Little Fairy's bodyguards?
Little Fairy held her cup with both hands and studied An Yi curiously. "By the way, why did you go alone into the depths of the Magic Beast Mountain Range? Even if it was for training, wasn't that far too dangerous?"
"It was fine. There wasn't much danger for me." An Yi shrugged.
Little Fairy wore a strange expression, but upon further thought, she found it perfectly natural.
She had personally witnessed this guy's inhuman combat strength!
Half a year ago, he had smashed a first-rank Poison Horn Snake, hard as iron and stone, into pulp with a single punch. Later, when he escorted her out of the mountains, he had casually swung that terrifying halberd and split a second-rank Demon Wolf in two!
Thinking of that, Little Fairy hesitated. Her clear, watery eyes glittered with intense curiosity as she could not help asking in a low voice.
"An Yi... um, are you... human?"
"Pfft—cough, cough!" An Yi nearly sprayed out the water he had just drunk, the corner of his eye twitching wildly. "Miss, what kind of question is that? Why are you insulting me?"
"Ah, that's not what I meant!"
Little Fairy's cheeks reddened even more as she hurriedly waved her hands in explanation. "I mean, are you human? Or are you... some other race?"
In the Battle Qi Continent, there were many different races besides humans.
For instance, the notorious Snake-People Tribe of the Tagor Great Desert, as well as the Beastman Tribe, who retained certain beastlike traits.
An Yi's terrifying brute strength, enough to tear magic beasts apart with his bare hands, made it difficult for her to associate him with humans, whose bodies were comparatively frail.
More importantly, Little Fairy clearly remembered that whenever An Yi fought magic beasts half a year ago, his originally clear sky-blue eyes would instantly turn into dark golden vertical pupils that radiated the pressure of an apex predator!
If An Yi sitting quietly normally looked like a lazy, beautiful, harmless "blue-eyed white-haired big cat,"
then once he started fighting, he would instantly transform into a "golden-eyed white tiger" that tore everything apart!
"I'm human." An Yi smiled and reassured her. "It's just that I encountered a small opportunity when I was young and fused with the bloodline of some ancient exotic beast. That's why my physical strength is only a tiny bit stronger than an ordinary person's."
"I see." Little Fairy nodded in realization and did not pursue the matter further. "Then where were you from before? Judging by your temperament and the way you speak, you definitely weren't some wild man who grew up in the deep mountains."
"I used to live in Wutan City." An Yi's gaze dimmed slightly before he smiled with easygoing indifference. "But something happened last year, so I left my clan. Now... I suppose the world is my home."
"My home is the world too." Little Fairy's eyes curved into crescents, and a smile of mutual understanding flashed through them. "It seems we really are fated. Where do you plan to go next? You can't seriously just 'be human for two days' in town to rest, then go back into those deep mountains to be a wild man again, can you?"
"I was thinking of going back near Wutan City to take a look at the situation first, then entering the mountains again to continue training." An Yi rubbed his chin.
The smile on Little Fairy's face stiffened slightly, and a trace of reluctance flashed deep in her eyes. "You... you're leaving already?"
An Yi sharply caught her emotion. He leaned a little closer and teased with a grin, "What? You can't bear to part with me?"
"Pah! Who can't bear to part with you?" Little Fairy's pretty face reddened as she shot him an annoyed glare. "I just think you saved me, and I want to properly repay your life-saving grace. Don't flatter yourself!"
An Yi leaned even closer, deliberately lowering his voice with a hint of mischief.
"A life-saving debt isn't something one meal can repay. According to the usual stories, shouldn't you offer yourself to me?"
"Pervert!" Little Fairy's face flushed crimson. She abruptly turned her head away, not daring to look at those seemingly seductive eyes of his again.
Knowing when to stop, An Yi laughed heartily and straightened up.
With a flick of his wrist, he took out a scroll from his Storage Ring. It radiated an ancient aura, with strange colors flowing across its surface, and he directly held it out before Little Fairy.
"Here, this is for you."
Little Fairy froze slightly, turned back, and accepted the scroll in confusion.
When she saw the few ancient characters on the side of the scroll, her pupils suddenly contracted.
