"Ah! Run!"

A roar came from the foot of the ice mountain.

Before Edna could turn around, a thunderous crash shook the valley. The stream had turned into a rushing river of lava.

Perhaps it was because everyone close to her was nearby. Even as a tremendous explosion rocked the valley and the ancient ice mountain erupted into a volcano spewing black flames thousands of meters high, Edna managed to shout calmly, "Grab the Vanda Tree's branches! Leonard, cast Animate Plants on it! Make it hold everyone!"

Leonard cast the spell at once. Fortunately, his Metamagic Feat was Quicken Spell. It did not work with every spell, but Animate Plants, a basic Nature Mage spell, was no problem.

He even used the last few seconds to cast Feather Fall on the towering tree holding everyone before he plunged underground with the collapsing earth.

Dervis and Luka had few spells they could cast while moving. All they could do was try to give their attendants a few buffs amid the shaking.

Their attendants were grateful for their Mages' wise decision. When Edna and Leonard had chosen to camp on the little slope, both Mages had stopped their attendants from setting up by the stream and decided to pitch their travel tents beside the treehouse instead.

The attendants, who had just been feeling a little unlucky, now had only one thought: My God! Thank goodness...

They still felt a little envious, though. The magical glow around them could not compare with the Terrasil Elves'. Every Mage over there seemed to have Quicken Spell for buffs!

Soma the Tigerfolk turned to look at the rapidly descending tree and the earth and rocks collapsing around it. Panic stirred in him. Were they going to fall straight into the Underdark?
