Old School Striking King gave her a meaningful look. "I wanted to stall, but Old Dog told me to use it first. Best if I can take one of them out.
"Hydra's more anxious than we are right now!
"Old Dog said that, for old times' sake, we should do something to put her mind at ease.
"Otherwise, he's afraid those twelve heads of hers will tie themselves in knots."
Edna leaned over to glance at the Shadow Core, which had already been passed to another Habel, and burst out laughing. "The fight isn't even over, and they're already here to divide the spoils?
"Sister Old School Striking King, do you think Bane can see what's happening here?"
Old School Striking King turned to look at the Torilians standing warily in the rear and jerked her chin toward them. "Who knows whose eyes are in that bunch? Bane's people are definitely there."
Edna said cheerfully, "That works too. We'll fight our fight, and they can fight theirs."
She had always felt that those inexplicable gods had twisted her coming-of-age journey into something else. Whenever danger arose, she could handle it with the undead's help, but she still felt she should never have had to endure any of this.
Wasn't a normal mage's journey supposed to be about meeting new friends and learning about life by discovering whether they were good or bad? Even if danger struck, it should come from her own uncontrollable curiosity or a soft heart getting her into trouble.
Instead, she hadn't traveled a few hundred kilometers before facing volcanic eruptions and the earth tearing apart. She had barely encountered any enemies at her own level; things had simply leaped straight to Transcendent Archmages carrying Divine Artifacts!
Was this a journey or a trip to her death?
