"What is Edna trying to do?" Lathander, somewhat baffled by the young saint's thinking, turned to ask Shar.
"How would I know?" Shar said coolly.
"I don't believe for a moment that you can't tell what she's thinking." Lathander flapped his wings. "What secret could possibly escape the Daughter of Dark Night?"
Hill's eyes widened slightly... Honestly, Lathander had grown increasingly relaxed—and increasingly shameless—since confirming that Shar really wasn't the mastermind behind the Dawn Cataclysm!
Sure enough, the gods of Toril had never hated evil itself, only the evil that hurt them.
"She must have been weighing up what sort of obstacle Ao picked out for her all this time." A hint of amusement softened Shar's voice. "And now the Undead have given her a reminder! What if the Mulhorandi Pantheon intends to return to Faerûn?
"She'll certainly want to test that crocodile's mettle and see whether he can suppress Malar through outside help or his own willpower."
Outside help?
Hill blinked... Did she mean the original incarnation of the Mulhorandi Pantheon, the Pharaonic Pantheon?
Indeed, Sebek had only lost his body as a Mulhorandi god on Faerûn. Back in his own universe, he was still living quite comfortably... If he, the source, had truly fallen for good, the Crocodilefolk of Toril couldn't have carried on so comfortably either.
For these god-created races, losing the source of their bloodline would be a devastating blow. They might even turn straight into actual beasts.
It seemed Edna was more wary of foreign powers than of those Shards of Mystra.
That made sense, though. Unless Saffras, the God of Divination, dared to appear in person and openly oppose his own supreme god, all those lesser schemes and plots were nothing but trash before the Undead's numbers and strength.
Unless Ao was crazy enough
