Oaisis said haltingly, "But without my recognition, those mutant silk spiders wouldn't have become a true race."

"In Telashir, more than half the humans want to kill Corellon's own son. Given the chance, even the human gods would strike without hesitation, including William," Hill said calmly. "Corellon knows that himself, but he still works very well with William.

"The Father of Elves certainly has plenty of flaws, but he doesn't readily take his anger out on others, unless you really are secretly trying to screw him over."

"I've seen him," Oaisis said suddenly. "In my inherited memories."

Hill tilted his head in puzzlement. "Hmm?"

"He was fighting Gruumsh, and his face was twisted with ferocity," Oaisis said quietly. "The supreme god of the orcs was frightening too, of course, but with his appearance... any evil deed would seem perfectly natural.

"But Corellon, do you understand... the contrast between his appearance and his behavior made me tremble, even though I was only watching him in a memory.

"And he seemed to have some strange ability. Even though I was watching their battle in my own memories, he still noticed me.

"That look in his eyes was terrifying!"

"When did you see it? Right after you were born?" Hill asked noncommittally.
