Hill glanced at Russell, who was quietly making up his mind nearby, and asked softly, "Russell, if you encountered someone as pitiful as Delifus, what would you do?"
Russell hesitated a little, but still answered firmly, "His misery is not because of me.
"I pity what happened to him, but I would never spare someone who dared lay a hand on me just because he was miserable.
"The only enemies who could do that to me and walk away unscathed would be those I could not kill."
Hill smiled in satisfaction. "Very good."
Russell let out a soft breath... He did not want to lie to his teacher, but neither did he want his teacher to think he was not kind enough.
Fortunately, their teacher's kindness still had boundaries. It was very different from the kind-hearted people in those Legendary tales he had read.
There was nothing wrong with not taking the initiative to hurt others, but Russell would absolutely never sacrifice himself to save someone else.
It seemed that although his teacher was kind-hearted, he would only lend others a hand when he still had strength to spare. And he would never demand that his students or attendants extend that hand as well.
The most important thing would always be oneself.
Once again, Russell understood what his teacher wanted him and Carpenter to realize.
But if, after understanding that, the two siblings still chose a path opposite to their teacher's, then they would surely be people who were no longer on the same road as him in their hearts. Being abandoned would be entirely natural.
Russell thought calmly: From now on, they had to think every decision through before making it.
Their own interests were important, but whether they should disregard their teacher's position for those interests was the
