But Neverwinter only seemed important because merchants heading to Icewind Dale had to hire adventurers there to get through Luskan.

The thousands of high-level adventurers were one reason Neverwinter prospered. Its skilled carpenters and artisans alone could never have made it as wealthy as it was.

Tyr and Helm valued their temples in Neverwinter so highly because they needed to oppose Bane in Luskan.

If the Undead cleared out Luskan...

Luskan was the best place to hold back evil. When the Elves had resisted the Half-Orcs, they had established their defensive line between Luskan and Neverwinter.

Only there could they completely block the Half-Orcs pouring out of the Spine of the World.

Hill had left Luskan alone until now not just because of Bane, but also because the barbarians of Icewind Dale worshiped Tempus.
