Tch. As if Aikber could wake before Amaunator!
Hill could not help pursing his lips. With Mystra nowhere to be found, Amaunator's resurrection had begun, just as expected.
Everyone knew why the Sun God had slept for so many centuries without waking in the Astral Plane: the Magic Weave, formed from Primordial Power, had never forgiven him.
The first Goddess of Magic, Mystryl, could truly be called the master of the Magic Weave. Born of Primordial Power, she had been the genuine Goddess of Magic. Her two successors were merely network administrators. If the system denied them access, they could not even touch it.
More importantly, neither of the two later Mystras had won the Primordial Magic Weave's wholehearted protection.
If Mystryl had been the one who defied Ao's orders and willfully returned to the Astral Plane, a hundred Helms could not have killed her... Of course, whether Ao could have cast Mystryl down to earth in the first place was another question.
And Karsus, the Instantaneous God whose bid for godhood had shattered the Magic Weave and forced Mystryl to dissolve herself back into Primordial Power, becoming part of all things, along with the Netherese Arcanists who had helped him commit that foolish act, had all been Amaunator's followers. No one believed the Sun God had known nothing about it.
Perhaps, like Mystryl, he had thought the Arcanist was a madman not worth his attention and that the attempt could never succeed. Perhaps that was why he had ignored Karsus... But he had certainly known what was happening from the start.
So Amaunator had hardly been innocent when all his followers abandoned him after the world nearly ended... The truly innocent Mystryl had already paid for her own carelessness with her life.
Naturally, the Magic Weave and its agents
