Hill could not help shifting, trying to find a better vantage point. The golem Battle Domain was dealing with looked close to its limit, and the Undead seemed to be trying to force it back toward the Drow ranks.
It seemed they knew very well that golems in Toril would self-destruct.
Hill had yet to see what a Disease Stone Golem's self-destruction looked like... He had seen the steel kind before. The Undead occasionally ran into them when dealing with pirates.
But the things the pirates had were practically rusted through... They were junk without even waterproofing spells inscribed on them. How could they possibly have more complex explosive arrays? Even when they blew up, they did little good... The shields raised by the Undead knights surrounding those golems had not even trembled.
If it had been one of Hill's Iron Golems, it could at least have taken a ring of knights with it, along with the spellcasters behind them who did not even know enough to dodge.
If Hill had not been uninterested in such low-level golems and only made a few for practice, he would have stationed all those hulking things in Aglaia City as street guards... Now, those Iron Golems stayed by the municipal warehouse, their primary task being to help Lynn open and close its gates... In keeping with his usual style, Hill had made the warehouse doors far too sturdy.
Of course, Hill's warehouse defenses were thorough, with countless layers of magic arrays... But he remained wary of the world of Toril. Who knew whether all magic arrays might collapse one day?
At that point, if only the Tower Spirit could control the warehouse gates... It would be one thing if they could not be opened. What if they simply swung wide open instead?
