Background
Chen Jichuan was reborn with the memories and judgment of a previous life. Before he could escape his low-status family background, the Great Chu Empire collapsed, Yongfeng County was seized by bandits, and the families of yamen personnel were implicated. At twelve, he was imprisoned and exiled to the sunless Black Prison. 1
In Black Prison, Chen endured forced Yantie Ore mining alongside his younger brother Chen Shaohe. The brothers survived by concealing their anger, observing the overseers, and treating endurance as their only immediate path forward. Chen’s early resolve is summarized in his belief that “Living is hope.” 1 7
The Dao Fruit gave Chen access to other worlds with dramatically accelerated time. In Great Yan, he used the Insight Art to become a renowned physician, built White Jade Capital into a successful entertainment house, trained martial arts for decades, and secured a network capable of surviving his absences. 6 7
Appearance
Chen Jichuan has no single permanent appearance because his Dao Fruit journeys place him in different bodies and identities. He is frequently described as maintaining a youthful appearance across decades or centuries, then deliberately altering his looks to conceal that longevity. 13 135
- Appeared unchanged after thirty-five years away from Great Yan, allowing Lu Changshou to recognize him by appearance and voice. 13
- Altered his build, mask, scent, voice, and mannerisms to separate the identity of Deng Ai from Yu Jin. 34
- Publicly allowed his hair and beard to turn white to make his apparent age believable as Echo Valley’s patriarch. 135
- As “Gentleman Sword,” wore white robes and carried a longsword; his refined bearing became part of his public legend. 159
Personality
Chen is patient, disciplined, and intensely practical. Black Prison taught him to endure humiliation without surrendering his long-term plans, while the Dao Fruit’s time differential reinforced his preference for accumulation over reckless action. He routinely spends decades or centuries on cultivation, research, and preparation before confronting stronger enemies. 7 36 223 498
He is also highly adaptable and deceptive when necessary. Chen creates aliases, myths, organizations, and carefully limited public personas to acquire allies or evade attention; his fabricated White Jade Capital hierarchy persuaded Sheng Dayang and Sheng Xiaotian to join him. 27 34 93 137 449
Despite this ruthlessness, Chen remains strongly protective of people he accepts as family, disciples, or friends. He repeatedly prioritizes Chen Shaohe’s safety, sacrifices the chance to obtain Wuyuan’s Origin Seed in favor of healing Pei Ze, and distributes rare Wind-Thunder Pills to allies rather than keeping them for himself. 23 120 137 142
His morality becomes increasingly pragmatic with age. As Qizhenzi, he uses curses, ghost soldiers, corpse refinement, bait, and ambushes against hostile cultivators, but he distinguishes between enemies who threaten him and people he considers worth protecting. 137 138 456
Abilities & Skills
Dao Fruit and Immortal Register
Chen’s defining advantage is the Dao Fruit system, which gives him repeated lives in worlds with accelerated time.
- Travels between worlds with time ratios reaching 400:1, allowing decades or centuries of training while far less time passes elsewhere. 7 101 142
- Retains cultivation knowledge, techniques, experience, and peak achievements after death even when a new incarnation begins from a weak body. 65 140
- Uses Subsidiary Dao Fruits based on deceased cultivators to study their accumulated insights, including Qingsongzi, Gan Shisi, Wu Yuan, and Situ Kong. 140 141
- Possesses the Creation talent; its Derivation function can upgrade or create methods by consuming existing cultivation. 132
- Uses Insight to rapidly learn medicine, martial arts, alchemy, talisman arts, and the weaknesses of techniques or illusions. 6 103 321
- Later employs Enlightenment to accelerate the cultivation of divine abilities and deepen Dao comprehension. 493 498
Martial Arts and Swordsmanship
Chen began as a martial artist and developed broad mastery rather than relying on a single style.
- Mastered the Iron Bull, Jade Belt, Land-Flying, Water-Splitting, Eagle Claw, Golden Shovel Finger, Iron Broom, Golden Blade Exchange Palm, Crouching Tiger, and Wave-Wrapping techniques. 7 13 16
- Developed balanced body cultivation through Five Forms Eight Methods Fist, Tiger Form Divine Mastery, Bear Form Fist, and the Seventy-Two Chen Sect Arts. 147 149
- Created the Four-Line Poetry Sword after studying the sword arts of numerous schools; it became the signature art of “Gentleman Sword.” 132 159
- Studied the Hundred-Thousand Sword Diagram, choosing its versatile multi-strand Sword Qi path over the single-strike Sealed-Mouth Sword Qi. 90
- Uses sword intent, Sword Qi, and advanced sword formations alongside external martial arts and inner-force cultivation. 132 254
Dao Arts and Supernatural Forces
Chen’s Dao Arts expand from soul cultivation into divination, curses, transformations, concealment, and summoned forces.
- Grand Yin Body-Refining Method — cultivates his soul through Meditation Entry, Visualization, Spirit Projection, Night Roaming, and beyond. 45 96
- Five-Ghost Yin Soldier Method — commands ghost generals, Yin Soldiers, the Five Soul-Seizing Ghosts, and the Wealth-Seizing City-Taking Five Ghosts; he strengthens them through the Hundred-Ghost Feast Technique. 65
- Paper-Cut Soldier Creation Art — creates forty-nine paper soldiers through forty-nine-day rituals; their power grows through repeated refinement, but incomplete rituals risk backlash. 72 138
- Corpse Control Formula / Refined-Corpse Method — controls refined corpses and becomes a major part of his Qizhenzi identity and later combat planning. 137 138 254
- Circle-Light Technique — divines distant events and hidden causes, including the secret-realm disturbances connected to the Li River. 96
- Curses and concealment — employs methods such as the Plowhead Curse, Form-Change Method, Concealment Technique, and Grand Yin Magnetism Stealth Method. 111 132 211
- Divine abilities — develops the Lunar Yin Divine Mirror, Soul-Swaying Bell, Five-Element Mountain, and Great Expansion Divination Method. 498
Alchemy, Artifact Refinement, Talismans, and Formations
Chen consistently treats the four auxiliary arts as strategic foundations rather than secondary pursuits.
- Built his first reputation as “Doctor Chen” through diagnosis and medicine in Great Yan. 6
- Studied pills and medicinal formulas through sect resources, experimentation, and the Insight Art. 103 279
- Reached third-rank alchemy and artifact refinement while teaching at Galaxy Academy. 291
- Concealed his true pill-refining speed and success rate while operating through Huang Xuan’s Golden Spear Talisman Workshop. 279
- Used talisman arts, formations, artifact refinement, and pill production to build resources, evade enemies, and support his cultivation. 120 211 287
Teaching and Organization
Chen is an exceptional instructor and institution-builder.
- Founded the Chen Sect’s martial legacy through Lu Changshou and personally trained promising disciples such as Wang Mingzhang. 14 16
- Established White Jade Capital as both a business and an intelligence network, later expanding it into Twelve Towers across Great Chu. 6 141
- Turned the Northern Command into a source of Earth Rankings experts by guiding officers including Zhu Biao, Gu Kaida, Deng Xuan, Zhang Chi, Wang Yan, and Yang Pu. 149 153 159
- Trained disciples and students across several worlds, including Lu Qing, Zhang Kaixuan, Li Ji, Huang Quan, and Galaxy Academy’s Second-Rank graduates. 136 258 279 291
