Background
Xiao Lan was born into an ordinary family in East River Ward. An exceptional student from childhood, she ranked first in every elementary-academy subject and reached the Later-Heaven Realm within two years of beginning cultivation. Her prospects collapsed when an unexplained condition erased her cultivation over three years, leaving her an ordinary person and exposing her to mockery and abandonment. She endured the setback, recovered in her final year at intermediate academy, and broke through to the Innate Realm before rapidly entering the higher academy. 282
She had once been engaged to Xu Ning, Chen Jichuan’s identity in Wu River Star. Duan Zhengming’s interest in Xiao Lan partly motivated his scheme to frame Xu Ning and destroy his family. Xiao Lan later broke off the engagement while Xu Ning was disgraced and believed dead. 282 289
At age twenty-one, Xiao Lan activated the Fire Phoenix Ring left by her mother. The ring housed Granny Gan, who trained her in alchemy, spells, and the Five-Wheel Departing Fire Method. With this assistance and her own discipline, Xiao Lan rose through successive academies, became a Second Rank alchemist, and entered Galaxy Academy. 288
Chen Jichuan exposed Granny Gan’s hidden scheme after recognizing the Fire Phoenix Ring with Insight Art. Granny Gan had planted fragments of her Primordial Spirit within Xiao Lan’s wolf and leopard fire spirits, intending eventually to seize Xiao Lan’s body. Chen destroyed the incarnations, protected Xiao Lan’s soul, and took the ring; Xiao Lan survived but lost the mentor she had trusted for decades. 289 290
Using memories left by Granny Gan’s dissipated soul fragments, Xiao Lan acquired the forbidden Soul-Splitting Body-Seizure Art. She used it to seize the body of a weakened Cloudveil Vine whose Supreme Bone had been stolen, creating a human avatar and an Immortal Vine true body. 302 303
Appearance
In her human form, Xiao Lan is a delicate-featured woman with a cool, aloof bearing. She was described wearing a moon-white robe; in her Cloudveil Vine form, she commonly appears as a green-robed woman whose appearance and aura differ greatly from her human avatar. 289 308
- Cool and composed in public, with a refined and graceful appearance. 289
- Her true body’s altered appearance is sufficient that even old acquaintances would not readily recognize her. 308
- Her rare smiles are most visible after victories or when speaking with those she trusts. 316
Personality
Xiao Lan is resilient, disciplined, and intensely survival-oriented. Her years as an ordinary person after losing her cultivation taught her the importance of strength and gave her the endurance to tolerate isolation, hardship, and long cultivation. 288 290
She is outwardly aloof but not arrogant. Upon learning of Xu Ning’s achievements, she openly acknowledged that she was inferior rather than clinging to pride. She remains practical about her shortcomings, funding her cultivation through alchemy because she lacks a wealthy family’s resources. 288
Her caution is equally pronounced. Xiao Lan conceals critical facts about her body-seizure, origins, treasures, and goals until disclosure becomes necessary. She can bargain aggressively and manipulate an arrangement to secure help, yet she honors completed exchanges and values capable long-term allies. 314 318 324
Abilities & Skills
Dual Bodies and Soul-Splitting Body-Seizure Art
Xiao Lan maintains a human avatar alongside her Cloudveil Vine true body after using the Soul-Splitting Body-Seizure Art inherited from Granny Gan’s fragmented memories. 302
- Her human avatar and vine true body can cultivate separately, though the avatar benefits from the true body’s advancement. 302 332
- Her true body’s wood vitality makes spirit division less damaging than it would be for an ordinary cultivator. 303
- The Soul-Splitting Body-Seizure Art normally carries severe costs and can only be used once; Xiao Lan’s seizure succeeded because the target Cloudveil Vine had an unstable foundation after losing its Supreme Bone. 302 303
Fire Cultivation
Xiao Lan initially cultivated the Five-Wheel Departing Fire Method, whose five transformations are wolf, leopard, lion, tiger, and flood dragon. She later chose the more advanced Nine-Turn Astral Flame for her human avatar. 288 302
- Mastered wolf and leopard forms and approached Lion Form while at Galaxy Academy. 288
- Uses the Five-Wheel Departing Fire Formation, Three-Thousand Dragon Flames, Lion-Tiger Gold-Shattering Chant, and Three Thousand Lotus Surge. 302 332
- Her human incarnation later wielded Grand Luo Heavenly Fire against Fourth Rank opponents. 345 347
- Her original Five-Wheel Departing Fire Method could advance only as far as Spirit Transformation. 302
Cloudveil Vine Arts
Her true body cultivates the Azure Dragon Longevity Scripture and possesses Immortal Vine traits suited to rapid growth through consuming ores, Spirit Crystals, Origin Stones, and other treasures. 313 332
- Immortal Vine Traversal — a traversal art capable of reaching 3.8 times the speed of light. 314
- Beast God’s Seven Kills — includes Beast-God Rush, an escape art used by Mo Ganshan. 315 332
- Undying Azure Vine — a Cloudveil Vine technique. 302 332
- Azure Lotus Descends into the World — a Transcendent Art cultivated to a level that surpassed Chen Jichuan’s understanding; it allowed her to pressure the Ten-Tribulation Rogue Immortal Mo Yanzhen. 347
Alchemy
Xiao Lan is a gifted alchemist who used the profession to obtain cultivation resources. 282 288
- Became a Second Rank alchemist by the time she reached Qi-Refining Apex. 288
- Studied in Galaxy Academy’s Alchemy Institute. 288
- Her need to finance her own cultivation slowed her advancement but made alchemy an essential part of her self-reliance. 288
Equipment
- Fire Phoenix Ring — Third Rank ring inherited from her mother; it could devour strange flames and transform into a fire phoenix. Chen Jichuan seized it after discovering Gan Chen’s remnant Primordial Spirit inside. 289 290
- Three-Light Divine Cauldron — Third Rank cauldron containing Three-Light Divine Fire, used to seal the captured Cloudveil Demon Emperor. 316
- Firecloud Gourd — A costly treasure used to capture Fire-in-the-Stone and Seaheart Flame; later traded to Chen Jichuan. 321 324
- Lesser Heavens Sealing Immortal Talismans — Thirteen talismans used to prevent Mo Ganshan’s escape. 315
- Eightfold Inverted Immortal-Suppressing Grand Formation Banner — Fourth Rank formation treasure later exchanged to Chen Jichuan for the Azure Dragon Longevity Scripture. 324
Relationships
- Chen Jichuan / Xu Ning — Former fiancé, rescuer, fellow Wu River Star patriarch, and recurring expedition partner. He exposed Granny Gan’s possession scheme, aided her recovery of the Supreme Bone, and repeatedly accompanied her into dangerous ruins. Their relationship developed from fear and mistrust into a mutually beneficial alliance and genuine gratitude. 289 290 315 323 361
- Granny Gan / Gan Chen — Former mentor within the Fire Phoenix Ring. Xiao Lan trusted her as a benefactor until discovering that Gan Chen intended to seize her body through hidden soul fragments in her fire spirits. 288 290
- Mo Ganshan / Cloudveil Demon Emperor — Her elder twin brother and enemy. He stole her Supreme Bone, nearly killing her; Xiao Lan later captured him with Chen Jichuan’s assistance and reclaimed the bone. 314 315 316
- Huang Quan — Fellow East River Genius, Wu River Immortal Sect patriarch, and co-guardian of Wu River Star. Their relationship remained distant because Huang Quan resented her past engagement with Chen Jichuan. 299 303
- Chen Jue — Her former master and the deputy headmaster who accepted her as a prized disciple after her return to prominence. 282
Story Role / Major Arcs

Trivia
- Xiao Lan’s cultivation collapse lasted three years and became a notorious local mystery because no physician could identify its cause. 282
- Her first major opportunity was the Fire Phoenix Ring; her second was surviving Gan Chen’s betrayal and inheriting the Soul-Splitting Body-Seizure Art; her third was finding a weakened Cloudveil Vine suitable for possession. 303
- Chen Jichuan repeatedly regards her as a “Child of Fortune” because many of his greatest opportunities, including the Sumeru ruins and Qilin Treasure Elixirs, arose through her. 361
