Since he had already told Tony the basic details of the incident, including its cause and the main people involved, Lin Hai did not linger at Stark Tower.
Tony needed time to process the information. What he needed least right now was someone bothering him at his side.
Lin Hai, Gwen, Peter, and Harry said goodbye to Tony and returned home to Brooklyn Heights through a Portal. He planned to let everyone rest properly for the next few days. A few people holding out on their own would not be enough against the Chitauri army; everyone needed to face it in their best condition.
Early the next morning, the four of them sat around the dining table. They had barely taken two bites when the doorbell connected to the villa's front gate rang in the living room.
Lin Hai set down his chopsticks and walked over to the display screen. On it stood a woman outside the gate, dressed in a black skintight combat suit, with reddish-brown wavy hair draped over her shoulders. Her arms were folded across her chest, and her posture was casual.
It was Natasha.
Lin Hai pressed the button to open the gate, then went to the living room entrance and opened the door to wait for her.
Natasha walked up from the garden path. When she saw Lin Hai, she raised a hand in greeting. "Morning, Doctor Lin."
"Morning. Have you had breakfast? Want to eat with us?" Lin Hai asked as he walked back into the living room.
Natasha followed him inside, her gaze sweeping over the dining table. She greeted Gwen, Peter, and Harry in turn. "Not yet. I only had a cup of coffee. If it's too much trouble, forget it. The director sent me to pick you up. We're going to
