Background / History

Thor is Odin’s eldest son and a prince of Asgard. Before coming to Earth, he sought glory through an unauthorized assault on the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, believing victory would prove him worthy to inherit Asgard’s throne. Odin instead sealed his powers and exiled him to Midgard to learn humility, compassion, restraint, and responsibility. 336

Initially, Thor interpreted the exile as an unjust punishment and expected Mjolnir to restore everything as soon as he reached it. Its refusal to move shattered his confidence, leaving him powerless, humiliated, and uncertain of his identity without his strength. 340 341
