Background / History

Kang, Rama-Tut, Immortus, He Who Remains, and Kang’s younger self were originally stages of Nathaniel Richards from a single timeline. When Conqueror Kang and Immortus fought, the continuity of time fractured, separating those identities into independent individuals and spawning the wider War of Kangs across the multiverse 256.

Conqueror Kang became trapped in the Quantum Realm while retaining a technologically advanced fortress, an Energy Core, mechanical soldiers, and a network of vassals including Lord Krylar. He had previously encountered and studied alternate versions of Miles Zero, disposing of them after assessing their abilities 187 188.

His history with Janet van Dyne predates the Quantum Realm crisis. Kang expected Janet to resume assisting him, but she rejected both his ambitions and his demand for obedience, viewing their former connection as belonging to another time 188.

Kang is cold, arrogant, and convinced that conquest is the only dependable path to order. He dismisses moral objections as words he has heard from countless defeated enemies, and he views surrender to his rule as mercy rather than oppression 188.

His confidence rests on preparation and control: he studies opponents, develops specialized countermeasures, and treats people—including Janet, Aurora, and mutant soldiers—as assets to be used. When control fails, however, his composure gives way to fury, especially when confronted by alternate Kangs, temporal humiliation, or threats to his claim of singular authority 188 191 196.

Kang’s pride prevents lasting cooperation with his variants. He considers other Kangs rivals by default and later openly condemns the Council as cowards, even while temporarily cooperating with Miles against Immortus 196 256 263.

Quantum Realm campaign

Kang detects Miles’s psychic scan of Axia City and orders Lord Krylar to activate psychic shielding and capture him. He then emerges personally, brings Janet to the battlefield, and reveals that he has encountered alternate Psypoints throughout the multiverse 187 188.

He offers Miles a choice between submission and destruction, claiming that Miles’s universe will be consumed by the War of Kangs unless Kang is allowed to conquer it himself. Miles refuses, leading to a battle that escalates from telekinesis and force fields to the Phoenix Avatar, Legion’s reality distortion, and Kang’s time reversal 188 189.

The 115 time loops

Kang repeatedly kills Miles across 115 possible timelines, only for Legion to emerge from Miles’s death and destroy Kang each time. Unable to eliminate Miles without releasing Legion, Kang exiles him into the Spacetime Rift instead 190.

Kang continues pursuing Janet, Pym, Scott, Hope, and Aurora while attempting to reclaim his Energy Core. The Ant-Man team ultimately activates the damaged core inside the Probability Storm, creating innumerable Kang variants who immediately begin killing one another 191 196.

Probability Storm and temporal abduction

The Probability Storm ends with one severely damaged Conqueror Kang surviving. Two orange-and-black armored figures arrive through a dark-green vortex, and Kang willingly follows them after recognizing them 197.

Miles later determines that he and Nurr are the figures destined to abduct Kang. They complete the loop after Kang’s fifteenth temporal jump: Nurr blocks Kang’s final attack, and Miles uses Mind Control to take him through a spacetime vortex 253 255.

Alliance against Immortus

After his capture, Kang recognizes Miles as a future version of Miles Zero. He explains the shared origin of Conqueror Kang, Rama-Tut, and Immortus, then agrees to a conditional alliance against Immortus while demanding the return of his Spacetime Energy Core 256.

Kang leaves the Quantum Realm for present-day Earth, warning Miles that any attempt to use him will be regretted 256.

Council invasion

Warden Kang assumes President Richards’s identity, uses his authority to present the Council’s invasion as an “Interstellar Peace Accords” program, and deploys Kang forces against Earth’s cities 227.

The Council’s internal rivalries remain severe. Individual Kangs pursue separate agendas, and variants such as Purifier and Strategist are defeated after the Avengers develop specialized technological countermeasures 259.

Rebellion against the Council

Conqueror Kang reappears during the battle surrounding the Temporal Locator, freezes two Council variants with Temporal Stasis, destroys them with Temporal Annihilation, and attacks the remaining Council forces. He dismisses the Council as cowards unworthy of the Kang name 263.

Eternal Crystal conflict

Kang secretly observes Miles and Immortus’s battle until Immortus exposes the Eternal Crystal Incarnation. He defeats Immortus in one strike, claims the complete Eternal Crystal, and uses it to deny Immortus clones and attacks from reality 270.

Apocalypse resists Kang’s erasure and temporal annihilation, then breaks Kang’s force field and armor through direct combat. Supreme Doom—revealed as an Immortus manifestation—later uses the Eye of Agamotto to force Kang’s existence backward along his own timeline, driving Kang into the Void 270 271.
