Background / History
Tang San enrolls at Notting College alongside Old Jack. During their dispute with the college guards, he develops murderous intent and prepares to use a Silent Sleeve Arrow before Yu Xiaogang intervenes. At Room Seven, he reveals his innate full spirit power and Blue Silver Grass martial soul, then immediately accepts Xiao Wu's challenge. Xiao Wu defeats him decisively and takes his quilt afterward. 2 3
At Notting, Tang San regularly accompanies Xiao Wu to Lan Yu's roasted-mushroom stall, though he regards the mushrooms as ordinary while Xiao Wu becomes especially fond of them. He grows hostile toward Lan Yu because of Xiao Wu's attention and later warns Lan Yu not to pursue her. 3 4
After obtaining his first spirit ring, Tang San helps Room Seven defeat Boss Xiao. Years later, he reunites with Lan Yu in Soto City and is shaken to discover that Lan Yu has become a five-ring Soul King with five hundred-thousand-year spirit rings, far surpassing Tang San's own progress. 4 10
Tang San enters Shrek Academy on Yu Xiaogang's recommendation. During the Star Dou Great Forest incident, he reaches Level 30 and acquires Spider Web Restraint from a Millennium Man-Faced Demon Spider. 9 17
Xiao Wu's departure with the Titan Giant Ape is part of her plan to escape Tang San and Tang Hao, rather than an ordinary abduction. Tang San attempts to pursue her, but Dai Mubai restrains him before Tang Hao takes over the pursuit. Lan Yu separately obtains the Eight Spider Lances, preventing Tang San from receiving that external soul bone with his spider-related advancement. 15 17
After mushrooms destroy Shrek's original buildings, Tang San relocates to Soto City with the academy and trains at the Great Soul Arena. He blames Lan Yu for the academy's destruction and notices that Zhu Zhuqing's abnormal physical strength suggests an enhancement method. When Yu Xiaogang proposes rare heavenly treasures as an explanation for Zhu Zhuqing and Ning Rongrong's abilities, Tang San recalls the Immortal Herbs recorded in his inherited knowledge. Lan Yu later takes control of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well specifically to prevent those resources from falling into Tang San's hands. 13 18 19 26
At the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Tournament, Tang San secretly inserts poisoned fine needles into his Blue Silver Grass vines during Shrek's match against Star Luo Royal Academy. Golden Crocodile Douluo exposes the cheating, resulting in Shrek Academy's arrest and disqualification. 43 44
Tang Hao later breaks Tang San out of Spirit Hall's prison, but sacrifices himself to delay Qian Daoliu. After witnessing his father's death, Tang San escapes through a blood-colored divine barrier and is teleported to the Capital of Slaughter. 45
Before his final stand, Tang Hao directs Tang San to the Blue Silver Forest. Lan Yu later explains that Tang San's apparently ordinary Blue Silver Grass conceals Ah Yin's Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, then recruits the forest's Blue Silver clan under the restored, memoryless Ah Yin's authority to obstruct Tang San's awakening. Tang San remains unaware that Lan Yu has already contaminated him with mycelium and can track his movements. 45 51
After several years, Tang San leaves the Capital of Slaughter as a six-ring Spirit Emperor and returns to Heaven Dou City to find Tang Yuehua. He forces his way into Moonlight Pavilion and releases Divine Slaughter's Domain against its guards. Tang Yuehua's zither music and Noble Ring domain calm him, and he proves his identity as Tang Hao's son by summoning the Clear Sky Hammer. Lan Yu publicly emphasizes his slaughter record and provokes another loss of control, prompting Tang Yuehua to expel Lan Yu and his companions. 70 71
Tang Yuehua devotes herself to helping Tang San control his domain despite Moonlight Pavilion's declining income after Lan Yu secures Ning Fengzhi's support in suppressing it. Once Tang San achieves limited control, she takes him to the Clear Sky Sect. Tang Xiao recognizes his strength, but the elders reject his ancestry, condemn Tang Hao, insult Ah Yin, and demand destruction of his Clear Sky Hammer. Tang San reveals his Asura God Trial mark and defeats Tang Hu with one hammer strike during the ancestral-return proceedings. 73 74
Lan Yu triggers enormous avalanches around the sect and attacks its survivors with Mimic Fungus Beasts modeled after Sea God Island's Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians. Tang San helps disciples escape the snow by forming a staircase from Blue Silver Grass, but is severely injured when he fights the Sea Horse Douluo mimic. Tang Xiao throws him off a cliff to save him before the mimics' combined trident attack annihilates the sect. Tang San survives through an unidentified protector, returns to the ruins, and vows to uncover the attackers' identities and avenge the sect. Lan Yu then freezes him with a prepared Ice-shroom. 75 76
Tang San subsequently appears destitute in Heaven Dou City, where Dai Mubai recognizes him and takes him back to Shrek Academy. Liu Erlong tells him that Yu Xiaogang is confined within the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Tang San travels there to reunite with his teacher and seeks information about the martial souls of the sect's attackers. Yu Xiaogang identifies their appearances as those of Sea God Island's guardians, leaving Tang San hostile toward the island without knowing that the attackers were mimics. 77 78
Yu Xiaogang unsuccessfully seeks the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's backing for Tang San and Dai Mubai. When Lan Yu arrives to demand accountability for the clan's mistreatment of commoners, Tang San protests an insult to his teacher. Lan Yu slaps him, and Tang San retaliates with Divine Slaughter's Domain and the Clear Sky Hammer. Ning Rongrong intercepts him, knocks away his hammer, and kicks him into a wall. By the group's later journey to the Defense Clan, Tang San is still injured from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's destruction. 79 82
Hoping to rebuild the Clear Sky Sect and obtain protection for Dai Mubai, Tang San seeks the Four Single-Attribute Clans. Niu Gao rejects him because of Tang Hao's legacy and beats him unconscious. Tai Tan defends Tang San and has Tailong support him, but Bai He prioritizes the four clans' unity over allegiance to Tang Hao's son. When Lan Yu reveals that he exposed Tang San's recruitment plans to Niu Gao, Tang San spits blood and faints again. 82 83
After Dai Mubai is crippled and publicly hung from Star Luo City's walls, Tang San chooses not to attempt a rescue and flees with Yu Xiaogang. Tai Tan shelters them and suggests that a god may be supporting Tang San. Tang San then travels to Gengjin City to obtain rare ores and recreate powerful hidden weapons, particularly the Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus. 89 90
Tang San begins forging the weapon at the Blacksmith Association, impressing Lou Gao and Tai Tan with techniques inherited from Tang Hao. He refuses Tai Tan's request to flee when Lan Yu takes over the association, insisting that leaving during the critical refining stage would waste his work. Lan Yu confronts him, restrains him with mycelia, and destroys his body with explosive spores. The Asura God gathers his remains into a blood-red vortex and resurrects him in the Capital of Slaughter. 92 93
The resurrection provokes a dispute in the Divine Realm over prohibited interference in mortal affairs. The Asura God defends Tang San as his chosen successor, while the Destruction God King objects to the violation. The other God Kings prevent a fight and allow the incident to pass once. Upon Tang San's awakening, the Asura God expresses disappointment and warns that he will not resurrect him again. Tang San accepts the formal Asura God Trial to gain the power needed for revenge. 93 94 95
With the Asura God's assistance, Tang San passes seven trials. His eighth trial requires defeating the King of Slaughter and reclaiming the Asura Demon Sword. He attacks the king with the Clear Sky Hammer and then strikes him with the sword; the combined internal and external struggle allows Tang Chen to destroy the Blood Red Nine-headed Bat King's consciousness and regain his body. Tang San learns that the dying man is his great-grandfather and reports the Clear Sky Sect's destruction. Tang Chen directs him toward Sea God Island for answers and sacrifices his remaining strength to open Tang San's ninth trial. 98 99
Personality
Tang San is fiercely protective of Xiao Wu, but his attachment is repeatedly expressed through jealousy toward Lan Yu and attempts to dictate whom Xiao Wu may approach. He remains devoted to her even after she physically defeats him and publicly rejects his intrusive behavior. 2 3 5
He places significant confidence in his innate full spirit power, twin martial souls, and Yu Xiaogang's teachings. Lan Yu's overwhelming advancement damages this self-image and intensifies Tang San's resentment. 9 10
Tang San is persistent under pressure and unwilling to concede when outmatched. This determination leads him to employ concealed poisoned weapons against Dai Davis rather than accept defeat in the tournament. 43
His sense of exceptional talent also produces entitlement toward rare resources. After learning the value of external soul bones, he resents Lan Yu for possessing such treasures and considers himself the more deserving “peerless genius.” 37
Tang San's experience in the Capital of Slaughter leaves him struggling with overwhelming bloodlust. He initially lacks restraint, attacks Moonlight Pavilion's guards, and repeatedly loses control when Lan Yu provokes him. Tang Yuehua's guidance restores a measure of discipline, but humiliation later prompts him to attack Lan Yu impulsively at the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 70 71 73 79
He remains loyal to his parents and teacher despite repeated setbacks. Insults to Ah Yin break his restraint at the Clear Sky Sect, and he insists on fulfilling Tang Hao's wish for ancestral recognition. He also seeks to rescue Yu Xiaogang and prove that his teacher deserves recognition as a true Grandmaster. 74 77
Repeated defeats expose increasing emotional fragility: he loses consciousness after Niu Gao's assault and faints again when Lan Yu reveals how he sabotaged the recruitment attempt. Nevertheless, he continues searching for allies and resources. His later decision to abandon Dai Mubai rather than attempt a hopeless rescue shows a growing emphasis on self-preservation. 83 89
Revenge becomes a central motivation after Tang Hao's death, the Clear Sky Sect's destruction, and his own killing by Lan Yu. He accepts the Asura God Trial as a means of obtaining sufficient power to retaliate. 45 76 95
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San's primary displayed martial soul is Blue Silver Grass, used for restraint and as cover for concealed attacks.
- Blue Silver Entanglement — Summons vines to bind opponents. 43
- Spider Web Restraint — Obtained from a Millennium Man-Faced Demon Spider at Level 30. 17
- Conceals poisoned fine needles inside the vines, allowing attacks to appear to be ordinary entanglement. 43
- His Blue Silver Grass is openly dismissed by Dai Davis as a weak martial soul, but Tang San uses it to disguise his hidden-weapon tactics. 43
- Forms an upward staircase to help Clear Sky Sect disciples escape burial beneath the avalanche. 75
- Contains an unawakened Blue Silver Emperor bloodline inherited from Ah Yin. Lan Yu deliberately obstructs access to the Blue Silver Forest's support, and the bloodline remains unawakened during Tang San's return to the Clear Sky Sect. 51 71 73
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer as a second martial soul.
- Uses it in tournament combat with formidable momentum despite having no attached spirit rings. 36
- The unringed hammer proves insufficient against Dai Davis because of their spirit-power gap. 43
- Summons it to establish his identity as Tang Hao's son before Tang Yuehua. 71
- Defeats Tang Hu with a single hammer strike during the ancestral-return ceremony. 74
- Cannot withstand the Sea Horse Douluo mimic's Raging Sea Torrent Fist, even when he raises the hammer to block. 76
- Ning Rongrong's self-enhanced Geo gauntlets knock it away during their confrontation at the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 79
- During the eighth Asura trial, he surrounds the hammer with a blood-red aura and drives the King of Slaughter back with repeated attacks. 98
Tang Sect Techniques
Tang San retains techniques and weapons associated with his prior life.
- Silent Sleeve Arrow — He prepares to fire one during the Notting College guard confrontation. 2
- Poisoned hidden weapons — Fine needles concealed in Blue Silver Grass inflict delayed poisoning and weakness. 43
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Used while fleeing Qian Daoliu after Tang Hao's death. 45
- Purple Demon Eye — Used to locate Lan Yu in the Soto Grand Soul Arena's spectator stands. 19
- Immortal Herb knowledge — Recognizes the possibility that rare herbs could explain extraordinary physical strength and ring absorption through records retained from his previous life. 19 20
- Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus crafting — Attempts to recreate the powerful hidden weapon using the Blacksmith Association's rare ores, tools, and facilities. Its completion is not established before Lan Yu interrupts him. 89 92 93
Death God Domain
Tang San acquires the killing domain later called Divine Slaughter's Domain after his time in the Capital of Slaughter. The earlier domain clash with Erming in the Star Dou Great Forest belongs to Tang Hao, not Tang San. 15 70 71
- Emits a terrifying killing aura that can be sensed outside Moonlight Pavilion. 70
- Initially overwhelms his emotional restraint and causes repeated surges of bloodlust. 70 71
- Tang Yuehua's Noble Ring domain and zither music suppress its negative emotional effects. Her subsequent instruction gives him limited control. 70 71 73
- Helps him withstand Tang Xiao's strength test alongside his six-ring cultivation. 73
- Is fully released when he attacks Lan Yu after being slapped, but does not prevent Ning Rongrong from defeating him. 79
Asura God Trial and Divine Protection
Tang San is the Asura God's chosen successor. His divine connection repeatedly preserves his life, but those rescues are interventions by the god rather than abilities Tang San can independently perform. 45 93 94
- Blood-red barrier and vortex — Protect him from Qian Daoliu's attack and transport him to the Capital of Slaughter. 45
- Trial mark — A blood-red, sword-shaped mark appears on his brow during the Clear Sky Sect confrontation, accompanying killing intent stronger than Tang Hao's former domain aura. 74
- Resurrection — The Asura God collects his shattered remains and restores him after Lan Yu's explosive-spore attack. The god subsequently warns that this rescue will not be repeated if he dies again. 93 94
- Accelerated trial progress — Passes seven trials with divine help and leniency before undertaking the eighth. 98
- Asura Demon Sword — Receives and uses the sword against the King of Slaughter during the eighth trial. 98
- Ninth trial access — Opened through Tang Chen's sacrifice at the Asura God's request. Completion and ascension are not yet established. 99
Forging
Tang San possesses advanced forging skills taught by Tang Hao. His processing of rare ores while preparing the Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus astonishes Lou Gao and Tai Tan, demonstrating technical ability even when his political and combat prospects have deteriorated. 90 92
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Silent Sleeve Arrow — Concealed projectile weapon prepared during the Notting College guard incident. 2
- Poisoned fine needles — Hidden within Blue Silver Grass vines during the Star Luo Royal Academy match. 43
- Zhuge Crossbows — Crafted by Tang San and used by Shrek Academy students while defending themselves during the mountain-valley ambush. 38
- Dragon Whisker Needle crystal — Obtained from Flender; its needles unexpectedly fire when Tang San breaks it, injuring him and rendering the remaining Hair Gold useless. 8
- Rare ores and Blacksmith Association facilities — Sought in Gengjin City with Tai Tan's help and used in the attempted construction of a high-level hidden weapon. 90 92
- Buddha's Fury Tang Lotus — A powerful Tang Sect hidden weapon he is refining when Lan Yu attacks; no completed deployment is shown. 92 93
- Asura Demon Sword — Reclaimed during the eighth Asura trial and used to slash the King of Slaughter, contributing to Tang Chen's liberation from possession. 98 99
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — Dormmate and the focus of Tang San's affection. He repeatedly attempts to protect and remain close to her, while she privately distrusts and resents his attention. 2 3 4 She later uses Erming to escape Tang San and Tang Hao and remains in the Star Dou Great Forest under the Sage Lord of Fungi's protection. 15 16 17
- Tang Hao — Father and protector. Tang Hao pursues threats to Tang San, breaks him out of Spirit Hall's prison, and dies buying him time to escape Qian Daoliu. 15 44 45 Tang San subsequently invokes his father's final wish when insisting on return to the Clear Sky Sect and remains fiercely defensive of his reputation. 74 82
- Ah Yin — Mother and the hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor, whose bloodline is concealed within Tang San's Blue Silver Grass. She sacrificed herself shortly after his birth. Lan Yu restores her without her former memories and uses her authority over the Blue Silver clan to obstruct Tang San's awakening. Insults to her provoke Tang San's anger during the ancestral-return ceremony. 51 73 74
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and mentor. Tang San defends Shrek Academy because Yu Xiaogang recommended it, and Yu Xiaogang later manages his arena training. 9 18 Tang San seeks him out after the Clear Sky Sect's destruction, defends his reputation, and later travels with him in search of protection and resources. Yu Xiaogang identifies the Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians' martial souls for him but is not told about his God Trial during their reunion. 77 78 89 90
- Lan Yu — Rival and source of Tang San's jealousy. Tang San is repeatedly unsettled by Lan Yu's strength, resents his connection with Xiao Wu, and is ultimately exposed for cheating after Lan Yu alerts Golden Crocodile Douluo. 4 10 43 Lan Yu tracks him through hidden mycelium, obstructs his bloodline awakening and recruitment attempts, destroys the Clear Sky Sect, and finally kills him at the Blacksmith Association before the Asura God reverses his death. 45 51 76 83 93
- Dai Mubai — Shrek teammate. Tang San supports Dai Mubai during the match against Star Luo Royal Academy and uses hidden weapons while fighting Dai Davis. 43 Dai Mubai remains grateful rather than resentful after the cheating scandal, later shelters Tang San at Shrek, and joins his search for allies. Tang San ultimately leaves him behind after his crippling and public punishment in Star Luo City. 44 77 82 89
- Shrek Academy — Tang San's academy team. His cheating scandal results in the arrest and reputational collapse of the entire group. 44 The damage persists for years, with fewer students and teachers remaining when he returns. 56 77
- Tang Yuehua — Paternal aunt and Moonlight Pavilion's mistress. Recognizes him after he reveals the Clear Sky Hammer, helps him control his killing intent, and takes him to seek ancestral recognition. She dies in the Clear Sky Sect's destruction. 71 73 76
- Tang Xiao — Paternal uncle and Clear Sky Sect master. Tests and acknowledges Tang San's strength, arranges his ancestral-return ceremony despite elder opposition, and sacrifices himself by throwing Tang San off the mountaintop before the sect's annihilation. 73 74 76
- Clear Sky Sect elders — Oppose his return because of Tang Hao's history and Ah Yin's Spirit Beast identity. Demand that his Clear Sky Hammer be destroyed and that he be expelled, provoking the revelation of his Asura trial mark. 74
- Tang Chen — Great-grandfather, initially encountered as the possessed King of Slaughter. Tang San mortally wounds him before learning his identity. After regaining control, Tang Chen directs him toward Sea God Island for answers about the sect's destruction and sacrifices his remaining strength to open the ninth Asura trial. 98 99
- Asura God — Divine patron and chosen-successor sponsor. Protects and transports Tang San, resurrects him after Lan Yu kills him, and guides his trials. The god expresses disappointment in Tang San's performance and warns that another death will not receive the same rescue. 45 93 94 95 98 99
- Ning Rongrong — Former fellow Shrek applicant and Lan Yu's companion. Overpowers Tang San with self-buffs and Geo gauntlets at the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and later participates in the pressure placed on his supporters. 9 79 93
- Tai Tan — Strength Clan patriarch and loyal supporter of Tang Hao's family. Defends Tang San before the other clans, shelters him and Yu Xiaogang, and helps him seek ores and blacksmithing facilities. His belief in Tang San's divine backing sustains his support despite Lan Yu's threats. 83 89 90 92
- Niu Gao — Defense Clan patriarch. Rejects Tang San's attempt to recruit the four clans because of the suffering associated with Tang Hao and defeats him at the clan's gate. 82 83
- Bai He — Tang San's granduncle and Speed Clan patriarch. Prioritizes unity among the four clans over loyalty to Tang Hao's son and later promises Lan Yu that the Speed Clan will have no dealings with Tang San. 83 85
- Tailong — Former schoolmate who supports the injured Tang San at Tai Tan's request and escorts his group away. Their prior relationship is described as ordinary rather than part of Shrek's inner circle. 83 84
- Lou Gao — Blacksmith Association president. Offers Tang San an opportunity to demonstrate his blacksmithing and is impressed by his forging techniques before Lan Yu takes control of the association. 90 92
- Sea God Island — Becomes a suspected enemy after Tang San mistakes Lan Yu's guardian-shaped mimics for its actual Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians. Yu Xiaogang recommends its trials, while Tang San expresses concealed hostility; Tang Chen later directs him there to investigate the Clear Sky Sect's destruction. 75 78 99
