History

Lu Yuan’s martial soul originally awakened as the ordinary Dark Iron Spear. Its form did not change after he obtained his first spirit ring, and Elder Hall records continued to list it as a Dark Iron Spear 4 17.

During the Qingshi Valley incident, the spear first developed faint dark-gold markings after Lu Yuan altered Han Yue’s death fate. After Lu Yuan prevented Qian Renxue’s severe-injury fate by identifying the spider silk continuing to poison her wound, another portion of the Origin of Destiny completed the weapon’s first evolution into the Piercing Spear 15 16.

The transformation drew Qian Daoliu’s attention. His examination established that the Piercing Spear was neither an external object attached to Lu Yuan nor a martial soul forcibly altered by another person; he could not determine its cause 17.

Training and the Second Spirit Ring

The first evolution made the spear sufficiently dangerous to threaten two-ring opponents, but its improved performance initially exceeded Lu Yuan’s bodily strength and soul-power reserves. Qian Daoliu therefore required him to develop cultivation, physical conditioning, and spear mastery together rather than rely on the weapon’s sharpness alone 25.

Repeated arena matches and hunting-forest battles gradually refined Lu Yuan’s use of the Piercing Spear. He learned to build momentum, control distance, exploit joints and other weak points, and reserve Piercing Edge for decisive openings. By the later stages of this training, he could kill many spirit beasts with ordinary lifting, pressing, thrusting, and blocking techniques rather than repeatedly activating his first soul skill 26 27 32.

After Lu Yuan prevented Shao Ping’s serious injury in the North Hunting Forest, another portion of Origin of Destiny briefly illuminated the spear’s dark-gold patterns, but did not immediately produce a new form 31.

Lu Yuan chose the Quake-Armor Beast as the source of his second spirit ring because its shock-rebound properties offered a way to break close-range restraint rather than duplicate Piercing Edge’s speed or merely increase frontal strength. During absorption, he learned to guide the ring’s dangerous vibrations along the shaft instead of resisting them directly. The resulting Shock Edge filled a major weakness in his combat style and enabled him to defeat Xu Heng 33 35 36.

Gray Silver Ore and the Second Evolution

At the Royal Hunting Grounds, Lu Yuan used the Piercing Spear in coordinated combat against the Rift-Toothed Tiger and later delayed the fleeing Soul Elder Han Song until reinforcements arrived. The incident altered Qian Renxue’s fate and granted him another portion of Origin of Destiny 46 49 50.

When rewarded with a selection from the Royal Treasury, Lu Yuan searched for compatibility rather than monetary value. The Piercing Spear manifested and resonated with Gray Silver Ore, an unimpressive-looking material that retained vibrations after being struck. Lu Yuan selected it because its properties complemented Shock Edge 50.

Back at Spirit Hall, the ore was broken down into silver-gray motes and absorbed into the martial soul through the Origin of Destiny. This completed the second evolution into the Mountain-Shaking Spear. The change preserved Lu Yuan’s original soul skills while improving the weapon’s weight, stability, and transmission of shock force 51 54.

Awakening the Sealed Core

Qian Renxue’s acceptance of Ning Fengzhi as her teacher deepened her fate deviation and supplied a powerful new portion of Origin of Destiny. A dark pattern appeared within the Mountain-Shaking Spear, and its connection to the broken spear in Spirit City reactivated across more than a thousand miles 55 56.

The sealed weapon independently developed the same pattern and struck the Black Gate strongly enough to disturb its Golden Lock Seal. Qian Daoliu recalled Lu Yuan and opened the chamber after his arrival. The object inside was identified as an Unknown Spear Core, compatible with the Mountain-Shaking Spear but still dormant 56 57.

Lu Yuan used all his remaining Origin of Destiny to awaken the core. The broken spear shed its black coating, revealed a silver-gray body, and dissolved into silver light before fusing completely with his martial soul. The third evolution produced the Abyss-Sinking Spear, whose inward force transmission and force-dispersal properties were inherent weapon traits rather than newly acquired soul skills 58 59.

Fourth Through Sixth Evolutions

For the fourth evolution, Lu Yuan sought a material that would interfere with an opponent’s movement instead of merely adding weight or destructive power. Ning Fengzhi supplied Tide-Sealing Stone Marrow from the Seven Treasure Trading Association as repayment for Lu Yuan’s assistance with Ning Rongrong’s training. Its fusion produced the Sea-Sealing Spear and the movement-delaying trait Position-Sealing 65.

After Emperor Xue Ye appointed Xue Qinghe Crown Prince, Lu Yuan obtained Vein-Severing Dark Gold as a treasury reward. The Origin of Destiny released by Qian Renxue’s rewritten succession status enabled the fifth evolution into the Tidebreaker Spear, which added Flow Interception 69.

The sixth evolution occurred at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. Lu Yuan consumed the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot while undergoing body tempering in the spring. Their opposing energies linked the spear’s previously layered properties into a more unified system, producing the Return-to-Ruin Spear and Yin-Yang Return to Ruin 73.

Final Evolution

The seventh evolution was triggered when Lu Yuan and Qian Renxue’s destinies fully overlapped through their reciprocal influence on each other’s lives. Origin of Destiny fused into the Return-to-Ruin Spear, integrating its accumulated powers into the Fate-Breaking Spear and its core trait, Force Shifting 81.

Lu Yuan first tested the final form with Qian Renxue, then returned to Spirit City three days after the Heaven Dou Palace Coup for examination by Qian Daoliu. The tests clarified that the spear could retain traces of encountered soul-power patterns and use them to introduce deviations into later attacks. They also confirmed that the weapon could not negate overwhelming differences in cultivation or replace Lu Yuan’s own judgment and timing 81 82.

Appearance

The Piercing Spear retains a pitch-black body but has a smoother, more refined finish than the rough Dark Iron Spear. Its weight has not disappeared, yet it feels substantially less cumbersome in Lu Yuan’s hands 16.

• Dark-gold patterns emerge from the spear’s tail and run along the shaft.
• Two extremely thin dark-gold edge lines frame the spearhead.
• The dark-gold markings concentrate most densely near the middle of the shaft.
• The spear tip remains undamaged after piercing the Man-Faced Demon Spider’s carapace 16.

Enhanced Piercing Properties

The Piercing Spear’s ordinary thrusts possess markedly greater sharpness and armor penetration than its former form.

• A normal thrust penetrated the intact carapace of a Man-Faced Demon Spider without damaging the spear tip 16.
• It pierced black wood and an iron-plated target with minimal soul-power reinforcement 20.
• Its threat level forces Great Spirit Masters such as Wei Cheng to evade or use defensive soul skills rather than casually block its attacks 20.
• Its sharpness lets Lu Yuan control space even against close-range specialists, though stronger opponents can still suppress the shaft and deny him room to build momentum 24 25.
• Its penetration is not absolute: an ordinary thrust at an Iron-Backed Jackal was stopped by hard bone, and Lu Yuan could not directly pierce the Gray-Armored Beast’s armor, requiring attacks against weaker locations 30 32.
• Later evolutions retain the original sharpness while adding weight, internal force transmission, and control over an opponent’s power flow 51 58 73.

Piercing Edge

Lu Yuan’s first soul skill, obtained from the Wind-Rending Leopard spirit ring, propels him and the spear forward in a concentrated, high-speed thrust 4.

• The skill channels force toward the spear tip for explosive penetration.
• After the spear’s evolution, soul power reaches the tip almost as soon as Lu Yuan activates the skill, removing the former momentary delay 16 20.
• Lu Yuan uses its momentum for movement, sudden changes of direction, escape from weapon suppression, and attacks from unexpected angles 11 13 22.
• It can be activated even when the shaft is pinned at close range, allowing Lu Yuan to force open distance against grappling opponents 36.
• Early use was difficult to control; Lu Yuan nearly crashed into a tree during his first activation 4.
• Repeated use heavily strains Lu Yuan’s body and soul power, particularly when facing stronger two-ring opponents 25 36.
• Its tactical value increases as Lu Yuan learns to build momentum and activate it at the peak of an opening rather than at the beginning of every exchange 32.
• The skill remains usable through later evolutions. Lu Yuan combines it with the Abyss-Sinking Spear’s innate traits against Du Heng and still uses it with the six-ring Fate-Breaking Spear to intercept a black chain 59 94.

Shock Edge

Lu Yuan’s second soul skill, obtained from the 720-year Quake-Armor Beast, releases a concentrated shock through any part of the spear shaft in contact with a target 35.

• The spearhead, middle shaft, and butt can each serve as the point of impact.
• It can crack and burst apart rock through a short-range vibration 35.
• The skill is designed to disrupt opponents who grab, press down on, or otherwise suppress the spear shaft.
• It briefly numbs an unprepared opponent’s hand, creating the instant Lu Yuan needs to reclaim the spear’s momentum 35 36.
• Its soul-power cost is lower than Piercing Edge’s, though rapid repeated use still drains Lu Yuan significantly 35 36.
• Against opponents with substantially stronger soul-power defenses, its disruptive force can be resisted 35.
• It can interrupt an opponent’s ongoing attack without eliminating an already activated soul skill, as demonstrated against Gu Yan 40.
• With the Mountain-Shaking Spear, its vibration travels deeper into targets instead of merely erupting at the surface. A partial activation through the spear butt shattered a thick bluestone from within 51.
• The Mountain-Shaking Spear briefly retains residual vibration after activation. A second Shock Edge applied at the same point before that vibration fades can overlap with the first, producing greater disruption 52.
• This overlap numbed Deacon Zhao’s reinforced hand sufficiently for Lu Yuan to pull the spear free, but a single activation had not broken his grip. The residual effect is short-lived, and repeated use strains Lu Yuan’s arm 52.

Dismissal and Resummoning

As an instrument martial soul, the Piercing Spear can be dismissed and resummoned during combat.

• Lu Yuan dismisses the spear when an opponent has seized the shaft, causing their grip or attack to miss 9 24.
• He can immediately resummon it into a new attacking position, making the technique particularly dangerous at close range 36 41.
• The tactic helped Lu Yuan defeat Qin Yue by creating an opening for a point-blank Shock Edge and follow-up Piercing Edge 41.
• Against the Rift-Toothed Tiger, dismissal abruptly removed the resistance against its forward momentum. Lu Yuan then resummoned the spear in his other hand and used its butt to deliver Shock Edge beside an existing wound 46.
• The Mountain-Shaking Spear’s residual-vibration technique gives Lu Yuan another way to recover a suppressed weapon without dismissing it and interrupting his offense 52.

Compatible-Material Resonance

The martial soul reacts selectively to compatible materials rather than to rarity or conventional value.

• Rare metals, a broken Soul King weapon, and other valuable treasury objects failed to elicit the reactions produced by the Unknown Spear Blank Fragment 18 19.
• It can vibrate and illuminate its patterns before direct contact with a compatible object 18 19.
• In the Royal Treasury, it manifested on its own and resonated with Gray Silver Ore, effectively guiding Lu Yuan’s reward selection 50.
• Subsequent forms similarly respond to Tide-Sealing Stone Marrow and Vein-Severing Dark Gold 65 69.
• After the third evolution opportunity opened, the Mountain-Shaking Spear sensed its compatible sealed core across more than a thousand miles 55 56.

Inward Force Transmission and Force Dispersal

The Abyss-Sinking Spear’s third evolution makes inward force transmission and partial incoming-force dispersal innate properties of the martial soul 58 59.

• A strike can send force beneath a target’s surface, causing internal collapse rather than only outward breakage 58.
• Internal patterns distribute part of incoming pressure along the shaft, reducing the force transmitted to Lu Yuan 58.
• The effect does not require activation as a separate soul skill 59.
• By preventing stronger collisions from completely disrupting the spear’s trajectory, it lets Lu Yuan reconnect defensive and offensive movements more quickly 59.
• It does not absorb all incoming force: Du Heng’s attacks still drive Lu Yuan backward and numb his arms 59.
• These properties remain through the Sea-Sealing Spear and later become part of the increasingly integrated martial soul 65 73 81.

Position-Sealing

The Sea-Sealing Spear gains Position-Sealing through Tide-Sealing Stone Marrow, a material that naturally slows nearby water currents and moving sand 65.

• Contact with the spear tip briefly delays the target’s next movement.
• The effect lasts only an instant, but can prevent an opponent from cleanly evading a follow-up attack.
• It complements the spear’s existing shock and penetration properties rather than simply adding more destructive force 65.

Flow Interception

The Tidebreaker Spear gains Flow Interception after absorbing Vein-Severing Dark Gold 69.

• The trait interrupts the flow of soul power.
• It can interfere with the formation of soul skills.
• It develops the spear’s control from delaying external movement to disrupting the power sustaining an opponent’s actions 69.

Yin-Yang Return to Ruin

The Return-to-Ruin Spear integrates the earlier properties of sharpness, weight, shock force, internal penetration, force dispersal, Position-Sealing, and Flow Interception through opposing ice and fire energies 73.

• The first strike marks the target’s soul-power flow.
• A second strike can reverse part of that flow.
• The two strikes do not have to contact the same location.
• The ability was demonstrated on a controlled strand of Dugu Bo’s soul power.
• Continued forceful soul-power circulation can make an opponent increasingly vulnerable to this interference, particularly while attempting powerful soul skills 73.

Force Shifting

The Fate-Breaking Spear’s final core trait, Force Shifting, unifies its accumulated powers and allows Lu Yuan to introduce deviations into forces already in motion 81.

• A light contact can redirect a soul-power attack without destroying it 81.
• Lu Yuan’s initial experiment redirected spreading ripples in a cup without first leaving a yin-yang trace or making a second contact 81.
• The spear remembers operational patterns of soul power it has touched. Lu Yuan can use those traces to deflect later attacks, including stronger manifestations of a previously encountered flow, or exploit vulnerable points within them 82.
• Repeated contact increases the danger of an opponent’s subsequent attacks by giving the spear more information about their power’s operation 82.
• More complex soul skills are harder to interfere with because their internal variations make useful openings more difficult to identify 82.
• The ability does not erase strength differences. Qian Daoliu’s strongest test placed severe strain on Lu Yuan, and overwhelming soul power could still crush him 81 82.
• Effective use requires Lu Yuan to judge when to strike and which part of the flow to alter; the weapon creates opportunities rather than guaranteeing victory 81 82.

Notable Engagements

Connection to the Sealed Spear Blank

The Piercing Spear first reacted to an unidentified black fragment stored in the Elder Hall’s outer treasury. The fragment, labeled “Unmeltable,” could not be melted, forged, or detected with soul power, but caused the Piercing Spear’s dark-gold patterns to glow 18.

• The fragment was identified as an Unknown Spear Blank Fragment and attached briefly to the Piercing Spear, though the weapon could not absorb it or evolve from it at that stage 19.
• Qian Daoliu stated that it broke from a damaged spear recovered from an abandoned forging ruin twenty-six years earlier 19.
• The main portion of that damaged spear was sealed behind a black iron door in the Elder Hall.
• When Lu Yuan approached the door, the Piercing Spear vibrated and the sealed weapon answered with metallic clangs—the first recorded response by the sealed spear to an outside instrument martial soul 19.
• Direct contact with the sealed spear drained soul power from spirit masters below Level 30. Qian Daoliu initially forbade Lu Yuan from entering or touching it until he reached that level 19.

Long-Distance Awakening

After the second evolution and the opening of the third evolution opportunity, the Mountain-Shaking Spear regained its connection to the sealed weapon from more than a thousand miles away. An exceedingly thin dark pattern appeared near its martial soul core 55 56.

The sealed weapon developed an identical pattern and repeatedly struck the Black Gate, making its Golden Lock Seal visibly ripple. Spirit City’s report was written on the same day Lu Yuan first sensed the reaction, before his own message could arrive. Qian Daoliu ordered his immediate return and opened the gate in his presence 56 57.

Core Identification and Fusion

Inside the chamber, the severely damaged weapon was identified as an Unknown Spear Core. Its compatibility with the Mountain-Shaking Spear was confirmed, but its dormant condition initially prevented fusion 57.

Lu Yuan’s remaining Origin of Destiny awakened the core. The broken weapon’s cracks illuminated, its black coating flaked away to reveal silver-gray metal, and the weapon rose from its platform before dissolving into silver light and merging with the Mountain-Shaking Spear 58.

The fusion consumed all of Lu Yuan’s remaining Origin of Destiny and completed the third evolution into the Abyss-Sinking Spear. The absorbed weapon’s capacity for transmitting force inward and distributing external pressure became innate traits of Lu Yuan’s martial soul 58 59.

Relationships

• Lu Yuan — Owner and wielder; the spear evolved alongside his fate-altering actions and forms the foundation of his combat style 16 25. Its final ability depends on his observation, timing, and judgment rather than automatically guaranteeing successful interference 81 82.
• Qian Daoliu — Investigator and overseer; initially schedules inspections every other month and grants Lu Yuan access to weapon-related archives and the outer treasury 17. Later opens the Black Gate, evaluates the Abyss-Sinking Spear, and tests the Fate-Breaking Spear’s final properties and limitations 57 58 59 82.
• Unknown Spear Blank Fragment — A black fragment that strongly reacted to the Piercing Spear but could not be absorbed at that stage 18 19.
• Sealed Spear Blank / Unknown Spear Core — The damaged main weapon formerly sealed behind the Elder Hall’s black iron door. Its awakened core fused with the Mountain-Shaking Spear to produce the Abyss-Sinking Spear 19 57 58.

She accompanies the initial treasury investigation, helps interpret the renewed connection to the Black Gate, and participates in testing the final form. • Shao Ping — Combat supervisor and second-ring mentor; oversees Lu Yuan’s hunting-forest training, supports his absorption of the Quake-Armor Beast ring, and helps establish Shock Edge’s practical strengths and limits 31 32 35 36.
• Xu Heng — Recurring training opponent whose spear-grabbing tactics expose a major weakness in Lu Yuan’s early fighting style. Overcoming that restraint becomes an important reason for selecting the second spirit ring and developing Shock Edge 24 32 33 35 36.
• Deacon Zhao — Oversees Lu Yuan’s recovery and treasury visit, witnesses the second evolution, and tests the Mountain-Shaking Spear’s ability to break a stronger opponent’s grip 50 51 52.
• Ning Fengzhi — Supplies Tide-Sealing Stone Marrow for the fourth evolution as repayment for Lu Yuan’s assistance with Ning Rongrong’s training. His mentorship of Xue Qinghe also indirectly deepens the fate deviation that opens the third evolution opportunity 55 65.
• Ning Rongrong — Shows repeated curiosity about the evolved spear; Lu Yuan refuses to let her hold the significantly heavier Abyss-Sinking Spear. Her training relationship with him provides the basis for Ning Fengzhi’s gift of the fourth evolution material 61 65.
