History

Lu Yuan’s martial soul originally awakened as the ordinary Dark Iron Spear. Its form did not change after he obtained his first spirit ring, and Elder Hall records continued to list it as a Dark Iron Spear 4 17.

During the Qingshi Valley incident, the spear first developed faint dark-gold markings after Lu Yuan altered Han Yue’s death fate. After Lu Yuan prevented Qian Renxue’s severe-injury fate by identifying the spider silk continuing to poison her wound, another portion of the Origin of Destiny completed the weapon’s first evolution into the Piercing Spear 15 16.

The transformation drew Qian Daoliu’s attention. His examination established that the Piercing Spear was neither an external object attached to Lu Yuan nor a martial soul forcibly altered by another person; its cause remains unknown 17.

Appearance

The Piercing Spear retains a pitch-black body but has a smoother, more refined finish than the rough Dark Iron Spear. Its weight has not disappeared, yet it feels substantially less cumbersome in Lu Yuan’s hands 16.

• Dark-gold patterns emerge from the spear’s tail and run along the shaft.
• Two extremely thin dark-gold edge lines frame the spearhead.
• The dark-gold markings concentrate most densely near the middle of the shaft.

Enhanced Piercing Properties

The Piercing Spear’s ordinary thrusts possess markedly greater sharpness and armor penetration than its former form.

• A normal thrust penetrated the intact carapace of a Man-Faced Demon Spider without damaging the spear tip 16.
• It pierced black wood and an iron-plated target with minimal soul-power reinforcement 20.
• Its threat level forces Great Spirit Masters such as Wei Cheng to evade or use defensive soul skills rather than casually block its attacks 20.
• Its sharpness lets Lu Yuan control space even against close-range specialists, though stronger opponents can still suppress the shaft and deny him room to build momentum 24 25.

Piercing Edge

Lu Yuan’s first soul skill, obtained from the Wind-Rending Leopard spirit ring, propels him and the spear forward in a concentrated, high-speed thrust 4.

• The skill channels force toward the spear tip for explosive penetration.
• After the spear’s evolution, soul power reaches the tip almost as soon as Lu Yuan activates the skill, removing the former momentary delay 16 20.
• Lu Yuan uses its momentum for movement, sudden changes of direction, escape from weapon suppression, and attacks from unexpected angles 11 13 22.
• It can be activated even when the shaft is pinned at close range, allowing Lu Yuan to force open distance against grappling opponents 36.
• Early use was difficult to control; Lu Yuan nearly crashed into a tree during his first activation 4.

Shock Edge

Lu Yuan’s second soul skill, obtained from the 720-year Quake-Armor Beast, releases a concentrated shock through any part of the spear shaft in contact with a target 35.

• The spearhead, middle shaft, and butt can each serve as the point of impact.
• It can crack and burst apart rock through a short-range vibration 35.
• The skill is designed to disrupt opponents who grab, press down on, or otherwise suppress the spear shaft.
• It briefly numbs an unprepared opponent’s hand, creating the instant Lu Yuan needs to reclaim the spear’s momentum 35 36.

Dismissal and Resummoning

As an instrument martial soul, the Piercing Spear can be dismissed and resummoned during combat.

• Lu Yuan dismisses the spear when an opponent has seized the shaft, causing their grip or attack to miss 9 24.
• He can immediately resummon it into a new attacking position, making the technique particularly dangerous at close range 36 41.
• The tactic helped Lu Yuan defeat Qin Yue by creating an opening for a point-blank Shock Edge and follow-up Piercing Edge 41.

Connection to the Sealed Spear Blank

The Piercing Spear reacts to an unidentified black fragment stored in the Elder Hall’s outer treasury. The fragment, labeled “Unmeltable,” cannot be melted, forged, or detected with soul power, but causes the Piercing Spear’s dark-gold patterns to glow 18.

• The fragment is identified as an Unknown Spear Blank Fragment and attaches briefly to the Piercing Spear, though the weapon cannot absorb it or evolve from it yet 19.
• Qian Daoliu states that it broke from a damaged spear recovered from an abandoned forging ruin twenty-six years earlier 19.
• The main portion of that damaged spear is sealed behind a black iron door in the Elder Hall.
• When Lu Yuan approaches the door, the Piercing Spear vibrates and the sealed weapon answers with metallic clangs—the first recorded response by the sealed spear to an outside instrument martial soul 19.
• Direct contact with the sealed spear drains soul power from spirit masters below Level 30. Qian Daoliu forbids Lu Yuan from entering or touching it until he reaches that level 19.
