Background / History

Xiao Wu was discovered in the Star Dou Great Forest by Chen Xin shortly after Lin Xiao obtained his first spirit ring. Recognized as a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast in human form, she was forcibly taken to the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect. Terrified that she would die before avenging her mother, she remained silent and wept while Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong discussed imprisoning her until Lin Xiao could claim her spirit ring and spirit bone. 11

Lin Xiao opposed killing her, not because the sect's plan lacked value, but because his upgradeable spirit rings made her sacrifice unnecessary. He proposed earning her voluntary sacrifice through emotional bonding while privately intending to preserve her life. 11

He then staged an escape using Guga-produced fried rice to distract the dungeon guards. Xiao Wu believed his rescue was genuine, introduced herself after embracing him, and prepared to flee; when Chen Xin intercepted them, she gave up her own freedom after believing Lin Xiao was being punished for helping her. The punishment was a coordinated act involving roast meat, makeup, and false injuries, allowing Lin Xiao to negotiate for her release into his care. 12

After moving into Lin Xiao's courtyard, Xiao Wu became deeply concerned for his supposedly severe injuries and repeatedly helped him despite not realizing the wounds were fabricated. Cute Little Gugas carried her to a guest room after she fell asleep outside his door. 13

Xiao Wu is introduced as a small girl in a pink dress, with conspicuous rabbit ears emerging from her forehead. 11

Xiao Wu is compassionate and emotionally responsive. She quickly trusted Lin Xiao after his apparent rescue attempt, felt responsible for his staged punishment, and later recognized that he was concealing the truth about his injuries to protect her. 12 14 Her sympathy extends to other spirit beasts: she was saddened by the weakened Blue Silver Emperor and asked to care for its surviving true-form body. 20

She is also innocent, impulsive, and accident-prone. She accepted Lin Xiao's deceptions without recognizing the fried-rice trick or his cosmetic injuries, dropped the Blue Silver Emperor's flowerpot onto a Thief Guga, and was affected by stimulant fumes after approaching the Alchemist Gugas' work. 12 13 21 24 Despite this, she has a mischievous side, falsely telling Ning Rongrong's fortune with vague statements that Rongrong accepted as profound. 26

• Lin Xiao — Her protector, captor, and eventual caretaker. Xiao Wu believes he risked punishment to save her and becomes emotionally attached to him, while Lin Xiao secretly manipulates events to keep her alive. She later calls him “Boss.” 12 14 15

Chen Xin identifies Xiao Wu as a human-form hundred-thousand-year spirit beast and brings her to the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, where she becomes a strategic resource in the eyes of its leadership. Ning Rongrong is the first person to defend her, refusing to see her as anything other than a frightened girl. 11

The Staged Escape

Lin Xiao exploits Xiao Wu's fear and trust through a false jailbreak and a staged punishment. Her willingness to surrender her escape after hearing his apparent screams gives Lin Xiao leverage to have her transferred from the dungeon to his courtyard. 12

Life in Lin Xiao's Courtyard

Xiao Wu assists Lin Xiao during his fake recovery, becomes acquainted with the Gugas, and shares meals and inventions with Lin Xiao and Ning Rongrong. Her concern for him prompts a brief rivalry with Rongrong when both insist on feeding him. 13 14

Blue Silver Emperor Custody

After the Thief Gugas return with the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone and its surviving true-form body, Xiao Wu immediately sympathizes with the weakened plant. Her attempt at caretaking accidentally injures a Thief Guga and damages the flowerpot, so the Gardener Gugas assume responsibility. 20 21
