Ch. 41What's Still Missing
Key plot points and events
- Oscar absorbs his third Soul Ring and becomes a level 31 Soul Elder. His new skill lets him fly for one minute at the speed of a Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent.
- Tang San also reaches level 30 after fighting Meng Yiran. The group spends two days searching for suitable Soul Beasts for him and An Chen.
- A Titan Giant Ape ambushes the group and carries off Xiao Wu. Zhao Wuji tries to hold it back, but the beast easily repels everyone’s attacks. Tang San pursues it using one of Oscar’s flying sausages; the others follow.
- The group finds Tang San absorbing a purple Soul Ring from a giant spider. An Chen realizes he has missed the chance to obtain the External Soul Bone hidden within it. Tang San endures a dangerous absorption, while Xiao Wu unexpectedly returns unharmed. She says she found and killed a suitable Millennium Soul Beast and also reached level 30.
- The search for An Chen’s Shadow Attribute Soul Beast fails, so the group returns to the academy. After a short rest, Flender says he will personally take An Chen hunting the next day.
- Flender introduces Yu Xiaogang, or Grandmaster, as Tang San’s teacher. Grandmaster appears to know An Chen’s private thoughts and teases him about something still missing: a silver-rimmed monocle.
- An Chen flees, but an identical version of him remains behind wearing the monocle. The chapter ends as the other An Chen, Grandmaster, and Flender look toward him mockingly, and he keeps running.
