In the Lower Hive Hideout, Li Qinwu landed and immediately let out a delighted whoop.
"De~ de~ de-de-de-de~"
He took the guns off his body, humming a little tune about getting to eat, and began sorting through his haul.
This time, he had returned absolutely loaded: seventeen homemade guns in good condition, twenty full magazines, and twenty homemade grenades, each packed with over eight hundred grams of explosive.
This haul had him completely stuffed, so pleased that his eyes rolled back. Ignoring his physical exhaustion, he began cleaning the guns.
The rebel soldiers had all used these guns. There was gunpowder residue in the barrels, and if he left them like that without cleaning them, they would corrode.
He began disassembling the guns one by one, checking the condition of their parts, then wiping away all the gun oil inside and applying Holy Oil.
Once he reassembled them, Li Qinwu gave each gun a soft, fragrant little kiss before setting it aside to let the Machine Spirit inside sleep soundly—if there was one.
He spent at least twenty minutes on every gun. It took quite a bit of effort, but he enjoyed it, spending several hours cleaning every last one.
After finishing the guns and using up one bottle of Holy Oil, he moved on to the magazines.
He removed all the bullets from the twenty magazines. Bullets could not stay compressed in a magazine indefinitely; over time, the springs could weaken, causing poor feeding and increasing the risk of jams.
After removing all the rounds, he made a small wooden box to store the magazines in. Then Li Qinwu began dealing with the grenades.
The rebels' grenade-making techniques were crude, but they stuffed them with an absurd amount of explosive. Each grenade weighed at least 1.5 kilograms, with more than eight hundred grams of explosive inside.
This wasn't a fucking grenade at all. It was a miniature demolition charge! Perfectly in line with Warhammer 40,000's principle that bigger weapons were better.
Grenades were easy to deal with. He just needed to twist the fuses off the bodies and store them separately. That way, he would not have to worry about a grenade suddenly exploding while he slept.
Once everything was done, he yawned as sleepiness washed over him.
He simply roasted a few potatoes, took a bath, then ate and drank his fill before collapsing onto the bed.
Before his consciousness slipped into sleep, he checked his attributes.
Strength 14, Endurance 15, Energy 13. All of them had increased by one point.
Psychic Resistance 11, Psychic Power Proficiency 11.
It made sense for Psychic Resistance to increase. Being controlled by a Silent One would naturally raise it. But why had Psychic Power Proficiency increased by one too?
He wanted the Silent One to teach him Psychic Power, but he had no clue how that could actually be accomplished.
The Psyskers of this world seemed to all be born that way. In the Warhammer 40,000 stories Li Qinwu had read in his previous life, there had never seemed to be cases of ordinary people learning Psychic Power—only Psyskers becoming stronger through training.
But his status panel showed that his Psychic Power Proficiency had gone up by one. What was going on? Had he been "contaminated" by coming into contact with a Psyker?
He felt that if he wanted to use Psychic Power, he might need to raise both his Psychic Power Proficiency and Energy to a certain level.
As he thought, his mind sank into sleep. He did not know how many people in this world could sleep so contentedly and without restraint.
Once he woke up, ate, drank, washed up, and took care of everything in one go, he began checking the Hideout's production.
First was the Holy Wine he cared about most. By now, the candles at the Emperor Shrine had burned out, and the wine offered there had been "sanctified."
There was no visible difference on the outside, but its system description had changed.
Name: Holy Wine Value: In some people's eyes, it might be priceless. Durability: 10/10 (can be drunk 10 times) Effects: Mighty Sanctity: The power of the God-Emperor, Lord of Humanity, protects you. You will not lose your way, nor will you be cowardly. Evil cannot enter your body, Chaos cannot corrupt you, and humanity's light shall endure. Energy +10. Holy Aura: When you stand before certain low-level daemons and servants of daemons, they will suffer intense pain. Even higher-ranking daemons will feel discomfort. Duration: 24 hours.
Holy Wine appeared in the system as a golden consumable. A usable golden consumable!
Li Qinwu whistled. Was this mass-produced little gold?
And the effects were incredible too! Especially the Holy Aura skill—it could actually make daemons uncomfortable!
The world of Warhammer 40,000 was one enormous cesspit, and its greatest problem was that the Imperium could not deal with daemons.
Now that Li Qinwu could resist daemons under certain circumstances, he had gained some ability to protect himself.
He stroked the wine bottle, his heart stirring. He really wanted to sell this thing!
Just look at that value assessment—priceless in some people's eyes!
Fuck it, Li was not greedy. It did not need to be priceless. Give him one hundred thousand Fertilizer Coupons, and he would be satisfied.
But it was still the same problem: he had no channel to sell it through, and he could not protect it either!
"Fuck! I'm sitting on a treasure mountain and can't develop it at all!!"
Li Qinwu paced back and forth, desperately hungry for more power!
But he truly had no idea what to do. All he could do was sigh, wrap the Holy Wine in a rag, and place it somewhere safe.
Afterward, he took a bottle of liquor from the Brewing Apparatus, added potato sugar and distiller's yeast to produce the next bottle, then went to the Emperor Shrine, lit an incense candle, placed in the liquor, and waited twenty-four hours for Holy Wine to come out.
Once production was arranged, Li Qinwu took three bottles of Holy Oil, several bottles of High-Energy Drink, and the mechanical key. He planned to make a second trip to the Water Pattern Monitoring Station and finish all the tasks there.
But that Silent One was a bit fucking crazy. Being held down by his Psychic Suppression last time had felt awful. If he went again and the man decided to capture him, that would be fucking miserable. He needed some kind of safeguard.
He ran all the way to the black-market merchant Nipall's shop and asked Nipall, who was repairing a pile of junk, "Do you have any good ways to commit suicide?"
Well, Li Qinwu had come looking for a way to return to the warehouse quickly. As long as he could make himself die at any time, no one in this world could control him!
The black-market merchant Nipall looked at him like he was insane, then pulled out a pistol and pressed it to Li Qinwu's head.
Li Qinwu's face darkened.
"I mean a way to kill myself if someone controls me and I can't move!"
The black-market merchant Nipall scratched his scalp with the barrel of the gun, then spat out a single word.
"Yes. Little Knife, go get the thing in the second drawer in my room."
Before long, Little Knife came out holding a small medicine bottle. He set it down and greeted Li Qinwu.
The black-market merchant Nipall poured out a thin, tiny pill from the bottle, its surface wrapped in some kind of membrane.
"This is a drug specially made for death-sworn agents. Stick one against the inside of your teeth. If you want to return to the God-Emperor's embrace, just bite it open.
Of course, if you no longer have the strength to bite it open, the capsule shell will dissolve in your saliva after twenty-four hours, releasing enough neurotoxin to poison ten people. At that point, not even the God-Emperor himself can save you. It's extremely dangerous.
So try not to keep it in your mouth, and make sure children don't accidentally eat it."
