Arc 7The Spire Purification Mission

Li Qinwu rescued Miss Nightingale, gathered weapons and vehicles, and prepared to stop the plague corrupting the Tower Spire’s water. He led a force through the infected purification plant and, after clearing several rooms, faced a huge monster made of stitched-together Plague Walkers.

  • Li Qinwu led his soldiers through the Plague Walker-filled Grand Theater, rescued Miss Nightingale, and escaped the Spire using her family’s Small Elevator and weapons.
  • Li Qinwu brought Miss Nightingale to the Middle Hive, helped her contact her family, and then returned to the Spire to salvage weapons, equipment, and eleven Chimera Transports.
  • Li Qinwu upgraded the Intelligence Station, learned that the Spire’s water purification system had been corrupted, and recruited Devout Priest, Reno, and their followers to help purify it.
  • Li Qinwu’s group reached the Middle Hive treatment plant, where the priests fought the corrupted and performed a ritual that neutralized contamination at the core Purification Well.
  • Li Qinwu led the group through the battlefield to the Upper Hive plant, where Reno revealed a maintenance passage and proposed sealing the Spire into sections.
  • Reno sealed the Tower Spire’s doors, and Li Qinwu led his squad through the rooms, killing Plague Walkers as they advanced toward the purification well.
  • After resting and recharging their Lasgun batteries, Li Qinwu’s squad prepared to fight a huge monster formed from stitched-together Plague Walkers.
Chapters 151–175 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 151Find the Noble

Li Qinwu’s group escaped the Plague Walkers and learned from a noble’s butler about a Small Elevator that could take them to the Middle Hive. They decided to reach his master, Miss Nightingale, at her theater and use her iris to activate it.

  • Li Qinwu led the group through the streets to a restaurant, using his mental power to sense danger and evade the Plague Walkers.
  • Li Qinwu questioned the noble’s butler, who revealed that his master owned a private Small Elevator to the Middle Hive that required her iris or electronic-card authorization.
  • The butler said his master, Miss Nightingale, was a piano virtuoso who lived in her theater and was likely there when the Daemons appeared.
  • Li Qinwu and his twenty soldiers agreed to go to the theater, believing it might be sparsely populated during the day.
  • Li Qinwu applied Divine Cooling Balm to the butler, cleansing his Chaos Corruption, then ordered him to lead them to the theater to find Miss Nightingale.

Ch. 152Grand Theater

Li Qinwu led his soldiers through the corrupted Spire toward the Grand Theater, where they hoped to find Miss Nightingale or an elevator card. After learning how a plague had transformed much of the population into Plague Walkers, he prepared to storm the theater while the monsters were drawn toward a fortified Tower Spire.

  • Li Qinwu ordered his group to hide as hundreds of Plague Walkers crossed the street, then questioned the noble's steward about the outbreak.
  • The steward explained that a wave of apparent colds had ended with roughly half the Spire's population dying and turning into laughing Plague Walkers.
  • Li Qinwu suspected someone had deliberately triggered a plague that infected nearly a hundred million people and ordered the group to find Miss Nightingale and escape.
  • The group reached the Grand Theater and saw Plague Walkers crowding around a Tower Spire whose defenders fired cannons at them.
  • Li Qinwu assigned Egghead to guard the theater entrance and led Black Charcoal and the remaining soldiers inside to find Miss Nightingale or an elevator card.

Ch. 153Grand Theater 2

Li Qinwu led soldiers into the Grand Theater to find Miss Nightingale, fighting through Plague Walkers and breaking the spell of their music. The group reached the red doors to her bedroom, unsure whether she was still alive.

  • Li Qinwu covered the soldiers as they crossed the street and entered the Grand Theater.
  • The noble butler led Li Qinwu and the soldiers inside, where they found Plague Walkers filling the theater and performing bewitching music.
  • Li Qinwu destroyed the musicians and their instruments, breaking the spell over the soldiers.
  • Li Qinwu and the soldiers killed the Plague Walkers in the audience while Egghead and the others fought at the entrance.
  • Li Qinwu ordered the group to find Miss Nightingale and followed the noble butler to her bedroom behind the stage.

Ch. 154The Grand Theater 3

Li Qinwu stormed into a room at the Grand Theater after a woman inside fired a Lasgun through the doors, killing the butler and wounding Black Charcoal. He killed the armed woman and the room's men, then demanded that the terrified women identify Miss Nightingale.

  • The butler and Black Charcoal tried to force open the doors, but a woman inside fired a Lasgun, killing the butler and badly wounding Black Charcoal.
  • Li Qinwu and the soldiers took cover as the woman continued firing, and Li Qinwu sprayed the doors with a light machine gun until the shooting stopped.
  • Li Qinwu broke through the doors and found frightened theater staff, including the dead woman who had fired the Laspistol.
  • Li Qinwu shot a man reaching for the Laspistol and then killed the other men in the room to stop them screaming or taking weapons.
  • Li Qinwu threatened the surviving women and demanded that they identify Miss Nightingale.

Ch. 155Grand Theater 4

Li Qinwu found Miss Nightingale and learned that her iris could open a private elevator, but the group was trapped by a vast horde of Plague Walkers outside the Grand Theatre. She led them to an underground armory, where Li Qinwu discovered a large stock of Lasguns and high-capacity batteries.

  • Li Qinwu found Miss Nightingale in a medical room and confirmed she showed no signs of Chaos corruption.
  • Li Qinwu applied Divine Cooling Balm to Miss Nightingale, then pulled out her IV and had a soldier carry her while the group prepared to leave.
  • Li Qinwu and his soldiers reached the Grand Theatre entrance, where a massive horde of Plague Walkers blocked their escape.
  • Miss Nightingale directed the group to an underground armory, and Li Qinwu led them there while four soldiers stayed behind to hold off the walkers.
  • Miss Nightingale scanned her iris to open the armory, where Li Qinwu found rows of Lasguns and powerful backpack-style batteries.

Ch. 156Small Elevator

Li Qinwu and his soldiers armed themselves with lasguns, blasted through the Plague Walkers, and reached Miss Nightingale’s family warehouse. As they entered, a cloaked figure aimed a Bolt Pistol at the soldier carrying Miss Nightingale.

  • Miss Nightingale removed the lasguns’ Gene Lock, and Li Qinwu equipped his soldiers with the weapons and batteries.
  • Li Qinwu led the soldiers in a barrage that broke through the Plague Walkers surrounding the grand theater.
  • The group fought its way through the streets to the high wall around Miss Nightingale’s family warehouse.
  • Miss Nightingale opened the iron gate with an iris scan, and the soldiers rushed inside.
  • A figure in a peaked cap and black cloak confronted the group, holding a Bolt Pistol to the burly soldier’s head.

Ch. 157Small Elevator 2

Li Qinwu and his soldiers confronted a commissar who had executed infected wounded soldiers and accused them of desertion. Li Qinwu killed him when he aimed at the hostage, leaving the group free to continue their mission to rescue Miss Nightingale.

  • Li Qinwu found more than a hundred wounded soldiers dead in a warehouse and realized the commissar had executed them as infected.
  • The commissar accused Li Qinwu's group of desertion, and Li Qinwu warned his soldiers that the man might be a Chaos monster in disguise.
  • Li Qinwu insulted the commissar and taunted him while the soldiers aimed their guns, but the commissar kept the burly soldier hostage.
  • The commissar shifted his Bolt Pistol from the hostage to Li Qinwu, who shot him through the gap between the hostage and Miss Nightingale.
  • The burly soldier fell and knocked Miss Nightingale down, while Li Qinwu celebrated that none of his men had died.

Ch. 158Small Elevator 3

Li Qinwu and the surviving soldiers escaped the Spire with Nightingale after destroying the commissar's body and covering up his death. Nightingale gave Li Qinwu a ring with a Data Terminal that granted him an identity in the Spire and access to some of her family's properties.

  • Li Qinwu joked with Nightingale, then took weapons from the commissar's corpse and ordered the soldiers to shoot it as a pledge of allegiance.
  • The soldiers and Nightingale fired at the corpse, and Li Qinwu blasted the remains until nothing was left.
  • Nightingale led the group to a Small Elevator, and everyone relaxed as it carried them down from the Spire.
  • Li Qinwu shared Holy Wine with the soldiers and Nightingale, who noticed how powerful it was and became more interested in him.
  • Nightingale gave Li Qinwu a ring containing a Data Terminal that granted him an identity in the Spire and access to some of her family's properties.

Ch. 159Small Elevator 4

Li Qinwu secured Miss Nightingale’s ring and agreed to escort her to the Middle Hive, where she promised a million to each man who protected her. He inspected the weapons he had taken and studied the Small Elevator’s controls, discovering it could reach many levels across the Spire, Middle Hive, and Underhive.

  • Li Qinwu examined Miss Nightingale’s ring and learned it could interact with Campela Family terminals and revive alongside him in the Hideout after he fused it with his soul essence.
  • Li Qinwu offered to protect Miss Nightingale in the Middle Hive, and she agreed to travel with the group and promised each man one million once the unrest ended.
  • Black Charcoal sprang up at the promised reward, while Li Qinwu accepted the deal on behalf of the grunts.
  • Li Qinwu examined the Bolt Pistol and Chainsword, then wrapped them in his coat to keep the special weapons hidden from public view.
  • Li Qinwu studied the Small Elevator’s console and found that it could access many levels in the Spire, Middle Hive, and Underhive, including its lowest level.

Ch. 160A Little Story About a Product

Li Qinwu and his soldiers emerged into the Middle Hive near his Brewing Plant and took shelter there with Big Joel and his wife. He pitched Miss Nightingale a story to justify selling wine stomped by an Imperial Cult nun, and she agreed to help sell it in the Tower Spire if he gained the Cult’s support.

  • Li Qinwu led his soldiers from the Small Elevator through the Middle Hive Industrial Zone to his nearby Brewing Plant.
  • Big Joel welcomed Li Qinwu’s group inside and went to get food for them.
  • Li Qinwu explained that the Brewery made wine he had hoped to sell in the Spire.
  • Miss Nightingale warned Li Qinwu that using an Imperial Cult nun to promote wine could get both of them purged.
  • Li Qinwu proposed framing the wine as a charitable effort to feed the poor, and Miss Nightingale offered to help sell it in the Tower Spire if the Imperial Cult supported it.

Ch. 161Miss Nightingale, the Contact

Li Qinwu left Miss Nightingale in the Brewing Plant and went to retrieve communications equipment so she could contact her family. When the elevator carried him to the Lower Hive, he found a gang linked to the Campela Family and claimed they were on the same side.

  • Miss Nightingale asked Li Qinwu to find communications equipment so her family could send a ship and rescue her from the Middle Hive.
  • Li Qinwu instructed the soldiers to stay in the Brewing Plant and set out for the Hideout to retrieve Lieutenant Rudosen’s Bird Spectrometer Radio.
  • Li Qinwu took the Small Elevator toward the Lower Hive instead of dying and reviving, and excitedly planned to loot the Spire while its Plague Walker crisis lasted.
  • Li Qinwu arrived in the Lower Hive and found hundreds of armed gang members waiting outside the elevator.
  • The gang leader questioned Li Qinwu, who asked whether the gang served the Campela Family and then asked what its factory produced.

Ch. 162Maintenance Plant

Li Qinwu posed as a Campela Family official to inspect Hank’s factory and discovered its repair shop might be able to fix Chimera Transports. He lured Hank with a lucrative military repair contract, and Hank began to admit he had a contact who could help.

  • Li Qinwu used his ring to convince Hank that he was an important Campela Family figure, then asked about the factory’s products and vehicle repair shop.
  • Hank explained that his shop repaired Little Trains and could repair or build many kinds of vehicles.
  • Li Qinwu asked whether Hank could repair Chimera Transports, and Hank nervously denied having the expertise or accepting armed vehicles.
  • Li Qinwu claimed the military needed roughly a dozen damaged Chimera Transports repaired and would pay five hundred thousand per vehicle.
  • Hank weighed the risks against the promised payment, then began, “Sir, actually, I have a friend...”

Ch. 163Sending Off Nightingale

Li Qinwu prepared the Brewery for an unspecified danger, then helped Miss Nightingale reconnect with her family and received an invitation to discuss cooperation. After she was escorted away, he headed up to the Spire to begin his search, fight, and extract.

  • Li Qinwu took Hank's Little Train to the Brewery and ordered Little Knife to lock down their facilities, seal passages, and use Holy Wine in their water.
  • Li Qinwu retrieved the Bird Spectrometer Radio and other supplies, returned to Hank's gang, and used his ring to enter the Small Elevator.
  • Li Qinwu brought the radio to Miss Nightingale, who called her family and said armed guards would arrive to take her home.
  • Miss Nightingale's Campela Family guards arrived in armored vehicles, checked her condition, and brought the promised cash.
  • Miss Nightingale invited Li Qinwu to Spire 11 to discuss cooperation, then left with her guards.
  • Li Qinwu hurried to the Small Elevator and went up to the Spire to begin his search, fight, and extract.

Ch. 164Flamethrower Canister

Li Qinwu used Holy Wine to burn away a crowd of Plague Walkers outside the Spire, then returned to the Lower Hive to obtain a flamethrower and mix its fuel with Holy Oil. He left the Spire carrying the weapon and spare fuel, ready to face the streets.

  • Li Qinwu sprayed Holy Wine from the wall onto the Plague Walkers, igniting many with Psychic Flames and restoring their minds long enough for them to panic and die or flee.
  • Li Qinwu used more Holy Wine to drive away the remaining Plague Walkers, leaving charred corpses outside the high wall.
  • Li Qinwu returned to the Lower Hive and asked Hank for a flamethrower, which Hank gave him along with ten barrels of fuel.
  • Li Qinwu collected Holy Oil and Holy Wine from the Hideout, mixed Holy Oil into the flamethrower fuel, and strapped on the weapon.
  • Li Qinwu opened the gate and strode out into the street carrying spare fuel.

Ch. 165Flamethrower Canister 2

Li Qinwu found and restarted an abandoned Chimera Transport, then drove it to the Grand Theatre to retrieve weapons and equipment. He found hundreds of Plague Walkers surrounding the theater and used his flamethrower loaded with Holy Oil to attack them, leaving the entrance engulfed in a blaze of Emperor’s Psychic Power.

  • Li Qinwu found an undamaged Chimera Transport with an empty fuel tank, filled it with Holy Wine and Holy Oil, and manually cranked its engine to start it.
  • Li Qinwu drove the Chimera Transport to the Grand Theatre and saw hundreds of Plague Walkers gathered outside as music played within.
  • Li Qinwu used his flamethrower to burn the Plague Walkers approaching the vehicle, scattering or killing them.
  • Li Qinwu advanced toward the Grand Theatre as more Plague Walkers poured from the entrance and froze at the sight of their burning companions.
  • Li Qinwu sprayed the crowd at the entrance with flames mixed with Holy Oil, causing the Plague Walkers to scream, flee, and attack one another.

Ch. 166Score Two Chimera Transports

Li Qinwu lured the Plague Walkers out of the Grand Theatre with fire, then looted its underground armory for weapons and ammunition before setting the theatre ablaze. He found an abandoned command Chimera Transport nearby and began inspecting it for salvage.

  • Li Qinwu set the Grand Theatre entrance on fire and used more fuel to drive the Plague Walkers out of the building.
  • Li Qinwu entered the Grand Theatre through a broken glass panel and took Laspistols, magazines, Lasguns, and a Cogitator Array from the underground armory.
  • Li Qinwu unlocked two iron cabinets and found ten Shotguns capable of firing Bolt Rounds, along with more than two hundred Bolt Rounds and other ammunition.
  • Li Qinwu loaded the Shotguns and ammunition cabinet into his Chimera Transport, then left as the Grand Theatre burned.
  • Li Qinwu took a detour to inspect an abandoned Chimera Transport and identified it as a command vehicle with communications equipment and a Bird Spectrometer.

Ch. 167Gotta Feast

Li Qinwu recovered and purified military equipment, then brought two Chimera Transports to the Lower Hive for repairs. He borrowed a tow truck and returned to the Spire to salvage abandoned vehicles, destroying one badly corrupted Chimera Transport.

  • Li Qinwu found weapons and electronic equipment in a command Chimera Transport, but its damaged engine would not start, so he towed it to the Small Elevator with another Chimera.
  • He evacuated both vehicles and a haul of weapons, then purified the equipment with candles, incense, and Holy Wine.
  • In the Lower Hive, Li Qinwu told Hank to arrange repairs for the two Chimera Transports and borrowed the Fuel Gang's tow truck, giving Hank a Lasrifle in exchange.
  • Li Qinwu drove through the Spire, clearing groups of walkers with his flamethrower and checking stranded armored vehicles for salvage.
  • Li Qinwu opened a heavily corrupted Chimera Transport, found Plague Walkers fused to its interior and Discomi inside, and burned the vehicle with his flamethrower.

Ch. 168Upgrading the Intelligence Station

Li Qinwu scavenged military vehicles, weapons, supplies, and electronics from the Spire, then returned to the Underhive as a new PDF regiment began firing on the walking corpses. He paid Hank for the vehicles, upgraded the Hideout with an Intelligence Station, and successfully used it to unlock an Encrypted Lasgun.

  • Li Qinwu collected eleven Chimera Transports, other military vehicles, weapons, supplies, and valuable electronics, gathering all the materials needed to upgrade the Intelligence Station.
  • When gunfire signaled the arrival of a new PDF regiment, Li Qinwu descended to the Underhive with his supplies to avoid being spotted.
  • Li Qinwu paid Hank 5.5 million for the vehicles and arranged for them to be repaired and the weapons to be maintained.
  • Li Qinwu installed the Intelligence Station and used it to unlock the Encrypted Lasgun, then began testing its intelligence support function.

Ch. 169Intelligence Support

Li Qinwu used the Intelligence Station to learn that Nurgle's corruption was concentrated in the Spire and might have originated in its water supply. He convinced Devout Priest to help purify the contamination, and the system offered a reward for taking the priest to its source.

  • Li Qinwu entered plague-related intelligence into the Intelligence Station, which suggested that the Spire's water purification system had been corrupted while the Middle Hive and Underhive suffered only mild contamination.
  • Li Qinwu drove to the Imperial Cult Cathedral to seek Devout Priest's help and showed the priests his Holy Seal necklace to prove he was a believer.
  • Li Qinwu told Devout Priest that the Spire had become a Daemon's paradise, prompting the priest to vow to launch a holy war.
  • Li Qinwu proposed purifying the Spire's water supply to halt the corruption, and Devout Priest agreed to accompany him with ritual implements.
  • The system notified Li Qinwu that taking Devout Priest to purify the contamination would earn the priest's friendship and an unknown reward.

Ch. 170Purging Corruption from the Water Purification Plant

Li Qinwu sought the Water Purification Plant’s location so he could join The Devout One in purging corruption. After learning The Devout One was the planet’s former bishop, he gathered Reno’s fighters and soldiers to join the priest’s battle priests, and the armed group prepared to depart.

  • Li Qinwu traveled to the Lower Hive Clean Water Guild and explained to Reno that he needed the Water Purification Plant’s location to help stop the corruption-driven rebellion.
  • Reno doubted Li Qinwu’s motives, then learned he knew The Devout One and revealed that the priest was the planet’s former bishop.
  • Reno decided to join the mission and gathered his armed underlings, while Li Qinwu recruited fifteen soldiers from the Brewing Plant.
  • Li Qinwu brought his twenty-seven fighters to the church, where The Devout One had assembled forty battle priests in protective religious gear.
  • The priest welcomed the warriors and had robes and beaked masks distributed so they could prepare to face the Plague Chaos God’s corruption.

Ch. 171Purging Corruption from the Water Purification Plant

Li Qinwu and the priest led an armed convoy to the Middle Hive Water Treatment Plant to cleanse its corruption. The priest’s Emperor-powered aura helped the Imperial Cult priests slaughter the corrupted and restore some civilians’ senses, leaving the awakened fleeing in terror.

  • Li Qinwu’s group dressed in protective gear, received the priest’s blessings, and set out for the Middle Hive Water Treatment Plant with Sister Teresa among them.
  • The convoy reached the plant, where Reno opened its gates and revealed a crowd of civilians gathered among the machinery.
  • A woman proclaimed the God of Plenty the one true God, and the priest smashed her into the ground when she began to call the God-Emperor false.
  • The Imperial Cult priests charged into the crowd and slaughtered the corrupted while Li Qinwu’s group watched.
  • The priest’s faint Emperor’s Psychic Power strengthened believers and dispersed corruption, restoring some civilians’ senses as they fled from the bloodshed.

Ch. 172Upper Hive Water Purification Plant

Li Qinwu and the cleric purified the core Purification Well with the Emperor Shrine, neutralizing the corruption in the water and establishing a zone that freed the mentally contaminated. They then rode a private elevator to the Upper Hive to confront the remaining corruption, passing through streets littered with the dead.

  • The priests slaughtered the mentally contaminated, but Li Qinwu urged the cleric to recall them so the group could continue its mission.
  • At the core Purification Well, the priests performed a three-hour ritual around Sister Teresa’s Emperor Shrine, spreading the God-Emperor’s Psychic Power far enough to neutralize the corruption.
  • The cleric left half the priests to guard the shrine and led the rest toward the Upper Hive Water Purification Plant.
  • Li Qinwu used Miss Nightingale’s authorization to take the group up to the Upper Hive in a private Small Elevator.
  • The group drove past the corpses of Plague Walkers and PDF soldiers, and Li Qinwu told Sister Teresa to keep the shrine close and stay within his sight.

Ch. 173Spire Water Purification Plant 2

Li Qinwu’s group fought through the plague-ridden streets to reach the Water Purification Plant, where more than a hundred thousand Plague Walkers surrounded the Spire. With a PDF Regiment too slow to mobilize, Reno proposed entering through underground maintenance passages and using the central console to isolate the enemies.

  • Li Qinwu led the group on foot through the battlefield while the priests’ chanting spread the Emperor’s Psychic Power and weakened plague growth.
  • Li Qinwu’s group shot their way through the Plague Walkers, and the priest’s amplified holy power killed a swarm of Plague Flies before it could attack.
  • The group reached the Water Purification Plant and saw the Spire surrounded by more than a hundred thousand Plague Walkers.
  • The priest said mobilizing a PDF Regiment would take too long, and Reno revealed a maintenance passage that led to the plant’s core control room.
  • Reno proposed sealing the Spire’s doors from the central console and clearing the isolated enemies one section at a time.

Ch. 174They Said It Was Like a Dungeon Roguelike

Li Qinwu led the group through a maintenance passage into the Tower Spire’s central control room, where Reno divided the facility into sealed compartments so they could clear a route to the purification well. Li Qinwu left the priest, Sister Teresa, and Reno behind to operate the doors and led fifteen soldiers toward the first group of Plague Walkers.

  • Li Qinwu reassured Egghead and the soldiers by stressing the wealth and status they could gain by protecting the bishop, and their fear gave way to resolve.
  • Reno led the group through a maintenance passage into the central control room, where they found Count Dinar dead with a Laspistol in his hand.
  • Reno used the control console to seal the Tower Spire’s doors and divide it into compartments, planning to open only one passage at a time.
  • Li Qinwu persuaded the priest to remain in the control room with Sister Teresa while Reno and his security personnel operated the doors.
  • Li Qinwu rallied the fifteen soldiers and led them toward the first iron door to begin clearing a route to the purification well.

Ch. 175I Hope the World Is at Peace

Li Qinwu led his squad through successive rooms of Plague Walkers as they fought their way toward the purification well, stopping to recharge their Lasguns. After the squad shared hopes for life after the mission, Li Qinwu panicked over their apparent death flags, and they prepared to face a stitched-together monster in the next room.

  • Li Qinwu and his squad killed over a hundred Plague Walkers in the first room, then cleared eight more rooms as Reno guided them toward the purification well.
  • Egghead warned Li Qinwu that the squad was running low on Lasgun batteries, and Reno directed them to an empty power distribution room to recharge and rest.
  • Li Qinwu lit an aromatherapy candle, removed his mask, and shared Holy Wine with the soldiers, who talked about their hopes for life after the mission.
  • As each soldier and then Egghead mentioned loved ones or future plans, Li Qinwu panicked about their death flags and urged Black Charcoal to make an impossible wish.
  • Black Charcoal wished for the world to be at peace, and the squad recharged their batteries and prepared to fight a huge monster made from stitched-together Plague Walkers.
  • Li Qinwu ordered the squad to set their Lasguns to maximum power and led them through the opening door with a cry to kill.
