Ch. 1162Zoanthrope Tyrant 2

Key plot points and events

  • The Zoanthrope Tyrant’s Psychic Shield blocks the Fleet Iron Guard’s attacks. Its Fear Aura panics nearly 400,000 human troops, disrupting their fire and forcing almost two-thirds to retreat on Li Qinwu’s orders.
  • The Knight Mechs and their pilots withstand the aura. The Tyrant then unleashes a massive Psychic Storm, knocking several Knights down and destroying more than twenty vehicles.
  • As the Tyrant prepares another blast, Li Qinwu considers withdrawing. Bruce Crocodile points out that one ordinary Zoanthrope has died after absorbing the psychic strain of the Tyrant’s previous attack.
  • Li Qinwu realizes the Tyrant is using its subordinate Zoanthropes to bear the cost of its powers. Though it still has twenty-nine nearby Zoanthropes to draw on, Bruce sees a way to exploit the Tyranids’ psychic network.
  • With psychic sight, Li Qinwu discovers that the Tyrant is linked to Zoanthropes across the world. Bruce proposes striking the Tyrant with Psychic Reversal: the feedback could destroy its brain and propagate through the links, killing every Zoanthrope on the planet.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu remains composed under the Fear Aura and quickly orders a retreat for troops who cannot endure it. He is pragmatic about avoiding needless casualties, but Bruce’s discovery gives him a potential alternative to withdrawal.
  • Bruce Crocodile proves observant and decisive: he spots the dead Zoanthrope, helps Li Qinwu infer how the Tyrant’s powers work, and identifies the psychic network as a possible vulnerability.
  • The Fleet Iron Guard are shown to be vulnerable to overwhelming psychic fear, while the Knights and Knight Mechs remain steady. Li Qinwu’s son and daughter-in-law are also unaffected.

Significant themes

  • The chapter contrasts mortal human fear with exceptional mental resilience, emphasizing the limits of ordinary troops against psychic warfare.
  • It highlights the Tyrant’s power and the hidden cost of wielding it: its strength depends on sacrificing subordinate Zoanthropes.
  • The battlefield shifts from brute force toward understanding and exploiting an enemy’s connections, turning the Tyranids’ shared psychic network into a potential weakness.

Ch. 1163Sniping the Brain Bug Tyrant

Plot

  • Li Qinwu considers killing the Brain Bug Tyrant with Psychic Reversal: striking it with psychic energy during the brief moment its shield weakens after a major attack would make its volatile power turn inward, killing it and potentially destroying the planet’s other synapse creatures.
  • The Tyrant’s next Psychic Blast hurls five Knight Mechs across the battlefield and badly damages several others. Bruce Crocodile explains the reversal tactic, but Li doubts he can cast a powerful, precise spell within the shield’s 0.01-second opening from several kilometers away.
  • The Tyrant then empowers millions of Tyranids with protective psychic shields and hormones that double their speed. The swarms become much harder to kill and begin pushing back the defenders.
  • Bruce says Li’s son Troy might have enough psychic power to perform the reversal. Li objects: Troy is aboard a warship, and bringing a five-year-old into the battle would be dangerous. Bruce reveals that Troy is already hidden inside a strange, void-like space in his mouth. Li angrily confronts him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu recognizes the opportunity to end the Tyranid threat but is constrained by the limits of his own psychic skill. His concern for Troy clashes with the urgent need to stop the Tyrant.
  • Bruce Crocodile moves from offering tactical insight to proposing Troy as the solution, then reveals he has secretly brought the child to the battlefield.
  • Troy’s extraordinary psychic potential is established through Li’s account of testing equipment failing to measure his power, though Troy himself is shown casually playing with a Switch.
  • The tense collaboration between Li and Bruce turns comic and confrontational when Li discovers Bruce’s secret.

Significant themes

  • Psychic power as both command structure and vulnerability: the Tyranids’ coordinated army depends on synapse creatures, so disrupting the Tyrant could trigger catastrophic consequences throughout the swarm.
  • Military necessity versus protecting a child: Troy may be their best chance, but using him means exposing him to extreme danger.
  • Escalation and urgency: the defenders are losing ground even as the narrow opportunity to strike the Tyrant becomes clearer.

Ch. 1164Kakashi, known as Little Troy

Plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu discovers that Troy is on the battlefield, hidden inside Bruce Crocodile’s Beast God Space. Bruce explains that the space is safe and rich in purified psychic power, which helps Troy’s semi-psychic constitution.
  • Bruce brings Troy up into his throat, where Troy can control Bruce’s body like a protective suit. Though the sight alarms Li Qinwu, he confirms that Troy remains shielded from the Tyranid spores and can be swallowed back into safety if needed.
  • Li Qinwu asks Troy to exploit a brief 0.01-second lapse in the Brain Bug Tyrant’s Psychic Shield by striking it with a psychic spell. Troy agrees, drawing psychic power from both Li Qinwu and Bruce.
  • The Tyrant unleashes a devastating Heat Ray, destroying vehicles, vaporizing soldiers, and crippling Knight Mechs.
  • When the Tyrant’s shield briefly weakens, Troy abandons the planned Lightning Bolt. After seeing the Heat Ray once, he copies it and fires the same scarlet beam at the Tyrant.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu shifts from anger and alarm over Troy’s presence to accepting the risk once Bruce explains the protection. He trusts Troy and offers his own psychic power without hesitation.
  • Bruce Crocodile admits he accidentally brought Troy along, then gives up control of his body so Troy can act safely. His willingness to serve as both shield and psychic battery shows his loyalty.
  • Troy is playful and affectionate—calling Li Qinwu “Daddy”—but proves remarkably capable. He can draw on others’ psychic power and instantly reproduce a powerful spell after seeing it once.
  • The three work together as a team: Bruce protects Troy, Li Qinwu supplies power and guidance, and Troy delivers the attack.

Significant themes

  • Protection and trust: Li Qinwu and Bruce accept danger and discomfort to keep Troy safe and enable him to help.
  • Sacrifice and teamwork: The adults willingly let Troy drain their psychic power to counter a powerful enemy.
  • Adaptability and potential: Troy’s quick decision to imitate the Tyrant’s Heat Ray reveals exceptional talent, turning the enemy’s own strength against it.
  • Humor amid danger: The bizarre image of Troy controlling Bruce from inside his throat contrasts with the battlefield’s lethal stakes.

Ch. 1165Psychic Explosion

Key plot points and events

  • Troy kills Li Qinwu and Bruce Crocodile with a heat ray, then uses the same attack to pierce the Brain Bug Tyrant’s weakened psychic shield and brain.
  • The Tyrant’s pain sends its psychic power out of control. Psychic lightning kills nearly thirty ordinary Zoanthropes, then overloads and destroys the Tyrant in a massive psychic explosion.
  • The Tyrant’s death shock travels through the planet-wide Tyranid command network, killing Zoanthropes and Tyranid Warriors. With their synapse leaders gone, the remaining Tyranids become confused, then scatter as instinct-driven beasts.
  • The Astra Militarum exploits the collapse, advancing across the planet and retaking much of the equatorial region. The Tyranids on the Fortress World are effectively defeated.
  • Six hours later, Li Qinwu wakes aboard the Fortune; Bruce Crocodile has respawned as an egg and is developing inside it. Li learns the Imperium’s forces are close to victory, but his own army has suffered heavy losses. He orders a shuttle to the Knight Legion to inspect the damaged machines and brings Father Busi to assess repairs.

Character developments and interactions

  • Troy proves decisive in defeating the Tyranid command structure, though his attack kills Li Qinwu and Bruce Crocodile as well.
  • Li Qinwu returns from death, checks on Bruce Crocodile’s rebirth, and shifts from relief at the victory to concern over the cost of the battle. He asks the captain for an update and plans to inspect the losses personally.
  • Bruce Crocodile is not permanently lost: his egg has reappeared at the Emperor Shrine, where Li Qinwu confirms the embryo is growing but not yet ready to hatch.
  • The captain reports the Tyranids’ collapse, the advance of the Astra Militarum, Lord Titus’s return, and the recovery of lost machines. Li Qinwu’s response underscores his disappointment at the severe casualties.

Significant themes

  • Decapitation and interdependence: The Tyranids’ strength depends on their psychic command network; removing its leaders turns an organized army into scattered, vulnerable creatures.
  • Victory at a cost: The planetary campaign is nearly won, but Li Qinwu’s forces have suffered substantial equipment losses, tempering the triumph.
  • Death and renewal: Li Qinwu returns after being killed, while Bruce Crocodile begins growing anew inside an egg.

Ch. 1166Taking stock of the losses

Key plot points and events

  • After the battle, Li Qinwu and Tech-Priest Busi assess the Knight Mechs’ damage. Seven King Knights need major frame and joint repairs, while three need new legs after being hit by Heat Rays.
  • A Quadraped Heavy Cannon Knight is almost entirely destroyed. Busi says its ancient, advanced design is beyond their ability to repair.
  • Luca’s Lancer Knight is also wrecked: Calidan’s blade cut it nearly in half, and the Tyranids’ corrosive substance destroyed its lower body. Luca remains linked to the machine and is distraught over losing his “ass,” which he believes means he has lost his martial skills.
  • Li Qinwu tells Luca he will take him to Agricultural World 496B for repairs, and orders Luca’s machine and the Heavy Cannon Knight transported there. Busi gives Li the specifications needed to manufacture replacement parts for the other damaged Knights.
  • Catwoman Nova confronts Li, reminding him that she owns nearly half the Knights under their agreement. Her sharp senses detect that he is hiding something, and she forces him to admit that five-year-old Troy was taken onto the battlefield.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu takes responsibility for the repairs, reassures Luca, and plans to use his manufacturing capabilities to restore the damaged machines. He is also visibly uneasy around Nova and ultimately confesses what happened.
  • Luca is traumatized and fixated on the loss of his machine’s lower half, questioning whether his famed combat ability came from him or his body. Li cuts off his spiraling monologue and offers practical help.
  • Busi carefully catalogs the damage and explains the limits of their technology, especially regarding the ancient Heavy Cannon Knight.
  • Nova asserts her stake in the Knights and uses her keen senses to expose Li’s guilt. Her anger shifts the scene from repair logistics to the revelation about Troy.

Significant themes

  • Loss and identity: Luca’s injury leads him to question whether his skill belongs to him or to his machine.
  • Limits of technology and recovery: Li can manufacture replacement parts, but some ancient machinery may be beyond repair.
  • Ownership and accountability: Nova’s claim to the Knights makes Li answer for battlefield losses.
  • Dark comedy amid war: Luca’s melodramatic fixation on his missing “ass” contrasts with the serious destruction around him, ending on Nova’s alarm at Troy’s battlefield involvement.

Ch. 1167Nova's Lingering Hurt

Key events

  • Li Qinwu calms Nova, who is furious that he took their five-year-old son, Troy, into battle. He compares Troy’s remarkable feats with those of legendary figures as children, arguing that Troy’s power has transformed how others would regard him.
  • Nova reveals her real concern: after being humiliated by her family on Terra during a vulnerable period, she wants to bring Troy back someday and be welcomed with respect by the Golden Lion Family.
  • Li Qinwu assures her that their positions have changed dramatically. He expects to return as a powerful Lord Inquisitor; Nova now commands ships and Knights-Errant and has built considerable wealth; and Troy is a formidable psyker. Together, they will have the standing to demand recognition.
  • Nova chooses to trust Li Qinwu and entrusts Troy’s future to him.
  • Li Qinwu confirms the planetary campaign is stable. Titus is commanding the ground forces, which expect to clear the Tyranids within a week before turning north against the Cultists.
  • Li Qinwu assigns the Fleet Iron Guard and remaining Knight Mechs to Little Knife for training and to develop his command skills. He then portals two damaged Knight chassis to Agricultural World 496B and teleports there himself.

Character developments and interactions

  • Nova shifts from anger to trust. Her lingering hurt over her family’s past rejection drives her ambition to secure a respected future for Troy.
  • Li Qinwu recognizes the emotional roots of Nova’s anger and reassures her with both practical evidence and confidence in their rising status. His conduct reinforces her belief that he treats her as family.
  • Troy remains offstage, but his battlefield power changes the family’s expectations for his future and becomes central to Nova’s hopes.
  • Little Knife is given greater responsibility, creating an opportunity to grow as a commander.

Significant themes

  • Dignity and recognition: Nova wants more than survival; she wants her family’s past humiliation answered with respect.
  • Trust and family: Li Qinwu’s protection and restraint help Nova trust him with Troy’s future.
  • Power and social standing: Military strength, wealth, and Troy’s abilities may overturn the family hierarchy that once excluded Nova.
  • Leadership and preparation: The lull in combat becomes a chance to train troops and develop new commanders.

Ch. 1168Building two ships at once

Key plot points and events

  • After returning to Agricultural World 496B, Li Qinwu visited his family, spent time with Nightingale and their newborn son, then transported the wrecks of two Knight Mechs to Moon 2.
  • Moon 2 has become a major industrial center, producing steel, chemicals, and adamantium. Its factories rely on minerals from a nearby asteroid belt, supplied by both government mining ships and hired merchant fleets.
  • The moon now receives roughly 120 million tonnes of ore each month, producing about 100 million tonnes of steel and 2,000 tonnes of adamantium. Li Qinwu’s magical ring gives his industrial development a major advantage by providing adamantium keels without the usual lengthy production process.
  • Two Lunar-class Cruisers are being built at once for Li Qinwu’s adult sons, Li Dadan and Li Zhongdan. Their custom design includes oversized compartments and passages to accommodate Knight Mechs and very tall personnel. Construction may finish before the brothers turn twenty.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu’s five children are growing into distinct roles: Dadan and Zhongdan pilot Knight Mechs; Danü is developing as a Druid under a Beast Priest’s guidance; and Yelena is learning civil administration from Governor Zeppelin, who raises her as his own. Li Qinwu is especially anxious about his infant fifth son, whom he tends carefully.
  • Nightingale enthusiastically supports the cruiser project, managing government affairs and trade to secure supplies. She sells adamantium, purchases scarce equipment, and acquires the lifetime services of 50,000 Tech-Priests.
  • The Iron Skull Archmagos supervises construction, while Nightingale supplies materials—an example of the family’s combined effort behind the ships.

Significant themes

  • Family and legacy: The cruisers are built for Li Qinwu’s sons, extending his influence through the next generation.
  • Industrial growth and resource dependence: Moon 2’s rapid expansion depends on mining, trade, and organized labor.
  • Practical innovation: Building ships from scratch allows designs tailored to their crews and equipment, while Li Qinwu’s supernatural advantage accelerates the most difficult stage of construction.

Ch. 1169Repairs

Key plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu brings two badly damaged Knight Mechs to the Iron Skull Archmagos for repairs. He explains that they were damaged fighting alongside Titus on the Fortress World.
  • The Archmagos says Luca’s Lancer can be conventionally repaired in under two months, but the ancient Quadraped Heavy Cannon Knight is too damaged—and its near-abominable-intelligence ballistic computer makes rebuilding it dangerously forbidden.
  • Li Qinwu is reluctant to scrap the heavy Knight, but he must return to the ongoing battle within a week. The Archmagos proposes a radical shortcut: use the heavy Knight’s remains to give the Lancer a dramatic upgrade, completing the work in four or five days.
  • Li Qinwu and the Archmagos ask Luca’s permission. Luca consults the Knight’s Ancestor, who approves the plan and allows them to use his machine, saying he is retiring to the Golden Ocean.
  • With consent secured, the Archmagos summons thousands of Tech-Priests to begin the repair project.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu frames his unpaid support of Titus as a strategic investment: although he gained no supplies or immediate rewards, he expects his contribution to reach Guilliman and win political favor. His urgency to return to the war also drives him to consider the risky repair.
  • The Iron Skull Archmagos is technically cautious about forbidden AI, but eager to pursue an inventive, radical solution. He reassures Li Qinwu and Luca while showing growing excitement about the project.
  • Luca is initially wary of the proposed modification and jokes about his injuries, but defers to the Ancestor before agreeing.
  • The Ancestor grants permission to repurpose his Knight and declares his retirement, closing his involvement in the machine’s future.
  • The exchange between Li Qinwu and the Archmagos mixes practical negotiation with suspicion and humor; Luca’s approval ensures the plan is not imposed without the Knight’s consent.

Significant themes

  • Political capital versus material gain: Li Qinwu treats military aid as an investment in influence rather than immediate reward.
  • Innovation versus Imperial taboo: The repair effort must avoid crossing the dangerous line into abominable intelligence.
  • Consent and legacy: The Ancestor’s approval allows his old machine to be transformed, turning retirement into a handoff to a new purpose.
  • Risk, urgency, and adaptation: The approaching battle forces the characters to pursue an unconventional repair rather than a slow, standard restoration.

Ch. 1170Large Plasma Cannon battery

Plot points and events

  • Over five days, the Iron Skull Archmagos repairs Luca’s Knight Mech, while Li Qinwu supplies the necessary adamantium parts. Li also arranges repairs for damaged Knight Mechs on the Fortress World.
  • Once the Archmagos has time to spare, Li asks to see what he has been developing. The Archmagos shows him an eighty-meter steel Titan prototype frame, intended as a draft for a Warmaster-class Titan.
  • Although Li eagerly offers to provide adamantium components and other resources, the Archmagos insists on refining the design before construction. They agree to stockpile what will be needed.
  • At a surface testing ground, the Archmagos unveils a massive, fifteen-thousand-ton plasma cannon battery. It can pierce nearly a hundred meters of armor, but requires hours of cooling and maintenance, and can fire only two shots per day at its recommended limit.
  • Li imagines installing the cannon on the Knight Legion, whose current shipboard weapons are weak, and wonders whether the battery can be adapted for ship use.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu continues to support technological development, using Lilith’s Wedding Ring to produce parts and prioritizing powerful defenses. His desire for security drives his enthusiasm for building a Titan and his interest in adding the cannon to the Knight Legion.
  • The Iron Skull Archmagos proves both inventive and perfectionistic. He has progressed from repairing Knight Mechs to drafting a Titan and building a formidable weapon, but delays the Titan project until he is satisfied with the design.
  • Their relationship is collaborative but lightly humorous: Li pushes to begin construction, while the Archmagos resists rushing his work and enjoys showing off his inventions.

Significant themes

  • Preparation versus perfection: Li favors beginning construction and gathering resources, while the Archmagos insists on refinement before committing to a Titan.
  • Technology as security and power: Titans and heavy plasma weapons promise overwhelming strength, reflecting Li’s anxiety about being vulnerable.
  • Power comes with risks and limits: The cannon’s destructive force is balanced by its slow firing cycle, hazardous fuel, and demanding maintenance.

Ch. 1171Alchemists

Key plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu discusses mounting a Giant Plasma Cannon on his warship, the Knight Legion. Though its unstable fuel and risk of catastrophic overload make it dangerous, he proposes placing the cannon and fuel tanks outside the hull and using temperature monitors and explosive bolts to jettison them if they begin to overheat. The Iron Skull Archmagos agrees and will design the mount.
  • Li inspects Agricultural World 496B. Its polar military districts each field one million professional soldiers equipped with Fleet Iron Guard armor, but the armor’s size makes existing transports unsuitable and raises questions about how these troops should operate alongside tanks. Li recognizes the need for new transport vehicles and more powerful tanks.
  • He orders Giant Plasma Cannons produced as quickly as possible to strengthen the planetary system’s defenses. Meanwhile, the Psychic Church’s growing traffic brings tax revenue that supports infrastructure, living standards, and military development; life on the world is approaching that of a Paradise World.
  • Before leaving, Li asks Nightingale to prepare production capacity for five million elite troops. He plans to support Titus’s campaign to reclaim the Five Hundred Worlds, using supplies from Agricultural World 496B to build political influence.
  • The Mario is expected to emerge from the Eldar Webway and establish a route between Macragge and Agricultural World 496B. It will then carry Li’s military supplies to Titus in exchange for political concessions.
  • Li hopes eventually to meet Guilliman and request three things: access to the Alchemists, permission to colonize new territory, and a royal title. His immediate personal goal is to have the Alchemists genetically enhance him, since his existing implant-based improvements have reached their limits.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu shows a pragmatic, ambitious approach: he accepts the risks of plasma weaponry but designs safeguards, invests in military modernization, and treats military aid as a means to gain political leverage. He also reveals a strong personal desire to surpass his current physical limits.
  • The Iron Skull Archmagos initially emphasizes the cannon’s danger, then works with Li to devise a practical external mounting and emergency-release system.
  • Nightingale is entrusted with planning the industrial capacity needed to equip a much larger army.
  • Titus and Guilliman are not directly present, but Li’s plans are shaped by his support for Titus and his hope of negotiating with Guilliman.
  • Li’s family appears briefly: he spends time with them before departing.

Significant themes

  • Risk versus military advantage: The Giant Plasma Cannon could devastate a warship, but its power makes it worth using if the danger can be contained.
  • Industrial capacity and modernization: New elite troops require new vehicles, weapons, and production systems rather than reliance on older military infrastructure.
  • Aid as political leverage: Li intends to convert material resources into influence and future rights.
  • Ambition and self-improvement: Alongside his political and military goals, Li seeks access to the Imperium’s most advanced biological enhancement.

Ch. 1172The Golden King

Summary

Key plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu plans to ask Guilliman for the Right of Settlement in the region newly illuminated by the Psychic Church’s Little Astronomican. Roughly 300 unexplored habitable planets lie within its reach. He proposes developing them and giving the Imperium two planets for every one he keeps.
  • He also hopes Guilliman will grant him a royal title. Li Qinwu has chosen the Golden King, imagining that wealth, territory, and a grand title will strengthen his political position.
  • After briefly returning home and dying by squatting, Li Qinwu wakes aboard the warship Fortune. He learns that Lord Titus’s forces have driven the Tyranids from the Fortress World’s equatorial region and advanced north toward the Cultists’ great fortress.
  • Near the fortress, extreme Warp distortions have altered reality: ranged weapons and conventional melee weapons cannot harm the Cultists. Only primitive, unarmed physical combat works, and the fighting has become a vast brawl.
  • Li Qinwu recognizes the phenomenon as the influence of a Blood Daemon, whose supernatural rules seem to favor combat stripped down to its most basic form. He notices that bare-chested Cultists appear especially powerful.
  • With Titus already close to the fortress and fighting the Cultists’ main force, Li Qinwu orders a shuttle prepared and summons Yellow Sand and Swift Shadow to join him on the surface.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu reveals his ambition to become a frontier ruler, but frames his expansion as a profitable bargain for the Imperium rather than a challenge to its authority. He is also quick to interpret the battlefield’s supernatural rules and moves decisively to intervene.
  • Guilliman does not appear directly, but Li Qinwu counts on his pragmatism and hopes the promise of new territory and resources will win his approval.
  • Lord Titus is portrayed as leading the assault personally, at the head of a hundred Astartes, toward the fortress and its Daemon Artifact.
  • The captain briefs Li Qinwu on the battle and supplies the footage. Li Qinwu responds by issuing deployment orders.
  • Yellow Sand and Swift Shadow are called in to accompany Li Qinwu to the battlefield.

Significant themes

  • Ambition and political pragmatism: Li Qinwu seeks wealth, territory, and status, while presenting his goals as useful to the Imperium.
  • The Warp reshaping reality: Daemonic influence imposes unnatural laws on the battlefield, making ordinary weapons useless.
  • Primitivism and authenticity: The Blood Daemon’s aura appears to reward fighters who are physically unadorned and stripped of technological or cultural “embellishment.”

Ch. 1173A Veteran's Seed

Key plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu, Swift Shadow, and Yellow Sand travel by shuttle toward a battlefield threatened by a Daemon whose influence favors primitive combat. Li Qinwu wears only boxer briefs, claiming that fighting naked will help him resist the Daemon’s effects and deal damage.
  • He tells Swift Shadow and Yellow Sand to keep their Power Armor on: although it may not stop physical attacks, it can shield them from Warp corruption. Their armor also carries combat-enhancing injections and supplies.
  • Li Qinwu reveals that he wants to use their gene-seed to create new Astartes Chapters, valuing the Imperial Fists’ resilience and defensive skill as well as the Emperor’s Children’s dueling prowess.
  • Yellow Sand warns that raising a private Astartes force would draw the Imperium’s wrath. Li Qinwu’s ambition goes beyond what Yellow Sand initially imagines: he privately hopes to become a king.
  • Li Qinwu explains that Green Needles can regenerate a chest gene-seed after its removal and that he has developed an efficient cloning method. Yellow Sand realizes this could let Li Qinwu reproduce veteran Astartes with the combat memories stored in their gene-seed.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu is confident, unconventional, and intensely ambitious. He treats the dangers of Warp corruption lightly because he can return from the dead, and he sees gene-seed cloning as a route to building a powerful force.
  • Swift Shadow trusts Li Qinwu and readily agrees to help, largely because his lack of conventional Astartes education means he does not grasp how forbidden the plan is.
  • Yellow Sand begins alarmed by Li Qinwu’s proposal, but his own status as a deserter makes him more willing to take risks. His concern shifts to the implications of cloning his precious, memory-bearing gene-seed.
  • Their exchange contrasts Swift Shadow’s easy loyalty, Yellow Sand’s informed caution, and Li Qinwu’s audacious certainty.

Significant themes

  • Ambition versus authority: Li Qinwu’s plan challenges the Imperium’s control over Astartes and hints at a future power struggle.
  • The value of experience: A veteran’s gene-seed carries combat memories, making it far more than biological material.
  • Risk and loyalty: Yellow Sand weighs the dangers of helping Li Qinwu against his already precarious position, while Swift Shadow follows out of trust.
  • Power through repetition: Cloning veteran gene-seed could create increasingly capable Astartes, suggesting a self-reinforcing path to military dominance.

Ch. 1174The Grand Plaza

Key plot points and events

  • The Shuttle’s navigation and communications fail as it enters a powerful daemon’s warp-influenced domain. Its engines also become unstable, and the Purity Seals worn by Yellow Sand and Swift Shadow begin to burn.
  • Li Qinwu orders the pilot to drop the three travelers at a deserted military camp and escape before the craft is destroyed.
  • With ordinary instruments unreliable, the group sets out north toward the Grand Fortress, where the fallen Grand Inquisitor and a Daemon Artifact are believed to be.
  • Yellow Sand uses his memorized map and biological sense of location to guide them. After traveling more than thirty kilometers through empty barracks, they reach the Grand Plaza.
  • The vast vehicle park has been transformed into a scene of Chaos desecration: armored vehicles are rusted and bloodstained, and human remains and skins have been used as decorations. The Grand Fortress lies beyond it to the north.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu responds quickly to the Shuttle’s failure, prioritizing the group’s survival and directing their route. He intends to capture the responsible Grand Inquisitor alive if possible.
  • Swift Shadow candidly admits that, despite having once killed a Greater Daemon, he would likely be overwhelmed by the powerful daemon approaching now. His realism contrasts with the usual pride of the Emperor’s Children.
  • Yellow Sand proves indispensable: his studied map and biological locator remain useful despite warp interference. Li Qinwu jokes about his surveying abilities, while Swift Shadow and Li Qinwu are surprised by his solution.
  • At the plaza, Yellow Sand’s disgust at the heretical desecration reflects the group’s shared hostility toward Chaos.

Significant themes

  • Human instinct versus technology: Warp energy disables machines, forcing the characters to rely on judgment, memory, and biology.
  • The horror of Chaos corruption: A mundane military staging area has been turned into a grotesque shrine made from vehicles and human remains.
  • Pragmatism in the face of overwhelming danger: The characters acknowledge the daemon’s strength and proceed carefully toward their objective.

Ch. 1175Bloodhunt Duel Arena

Plot points and events

  • Li Qinwu, Swift Shadow, and Yellow Sand enter the ruined Grand Plaza, where wrecked armour, human remains, and Chaos graffiti show the devastation.
  • Li explains that Grand Inquisitor Oluka activated the Daemon Artifact and is his target. If Li captures him, he expects to inherit Oluka’s authority as Grand Inquisitor—or Lord Inquisitor.
  • Yellow Sand explains that Lord Inquisitors wield exceptional power, even over most Astartes Chapter Masters. Li promises to use that authority to clear Yellow Sand’s name, provide him with Terminator Armour and a new Chapter, and make him its leader. He also casts Swift Shadow as his personal bodyguard.
  • The group finds a blood-soaked arena built from piled-up tanks and transports. Inside, tens of thousands of cultists cheer as fighters battle in groups of eight, with each survivor absorbing the victims’ blood and growing stronger.
  • Swift Shadow identifies the ritual as a progression system associated with a warlike Chaos God. Li estimates the fighters’ growing strength in tiers, from peak mortal to increasingly powerful Astartes-level warriors.
  • A massive cultist spots the intruders and calls on the crowd to kill them and offer their blood to the Blood God.

Character developments and interactions

  • Li Qinwu displays confidence and ambition, boasting about the status he hopes to gain and jokingly promising rewards to his companions. He takes the group directly into the arena rather than avoiding it.
  • Swift Shadow is surprised by the reach of a Lord Inquisitor’s authority and recognizes how the cultists’ blood ritual works.
  • Yellow Sand explains the Imperium’s hierarchy and appears relieved at Li’s promise that his name will be cleared. His stern expression briefly softens.
  • The three trade observations and rely on one another’s expertise before the cultists turn their attention to them.

Significant themes

  • Authority and legitimacy: Inquisitorial rank can override even the prestige of Astartes leaders.
  • Power through violence: The cultists gain strength by killing and absorbing blood, turning brutality into a ritual ladder of advancement.
  • Redemption and loyalty: Li offers his companions new identities and futures, presenting their former disgrace or outsider status as something he can transform.
  • Confidence against danger: The group’s casual discussion and bold entrance contrast with the arena’s overwhelming, hostile crowd.

Ch. 1176First and second tiers

Li Qinwu, Swift Shadow, and Yellow Sand fought off thousands of Foot-washing Acolytes in the Duel Arena, killing the first- and second-tier attackers. The seventh-tier cultist then sent nearly three hundred stronger fighters down from Tank Mountain to face them.

  • The seventh-tier Foot-washing Acolyte halted the Blood Trial and promised five trials' worth of power to anyone who killed one of the three intruders.
  • Li Qinwu, Swift Shadow, and Yellow Sand formed a defensive triangle as thousands of Cultists charged them.
  • The three men slaughtered the first- and second-tier Foot-washing Acolytes, leaving the Duel Arena covered in corpses.
  • Li Qinwu taunted the higher-tier Cultists on Tank Mountain and demanded stronger opponents.
  • The seventh-tier Foot-washing Acolyte summoned nearly three hundred third- and fourth-tier Foot-washing Acolytes to attack.

Ch. 1177Third Turn and Fourth Turn

Li Qinwu and his companions fought nearly three hundred Third and Fourth Turn Foot-washing Acolytes in the Duel Arena while waiting for the stronger Cultists on Tank Mountain to descend. After Li Qinwu slaughtered most of the attackers, the Cultists tore apart his boxer briefs, and he charged the survivors in a fury.

  • Li Qinwu, Yellow Sand, and Swift Shadow prepared to hold off the charging Foot-washing Acolytes until the seven Seventh Turn figures came down from Tank Mountain.
  • Li Qinwu and his companions unleashed their skills as the Third and Fourth Turn Cultists attacked, and Li Qinwu killed attackers with brutal punches, elbows, and grapples.
  • The Cultists surrounded Li Qinwu and battered him, but he fought through the blows and killed the attackers who restrained or struck him.
  • After Li Qinwu headbutted a Cultist to death, the man's grip tore Li Qinwu's boxer briefs into strips, leaving about fifty Cultists alive.
  • Li Qinwu straightened his broken nose, spat out bloody tooth fragments, and charged the remaining Foot-washing Acolytes in a rage.

Ch. 1178Third and Fourth Transformations 2

Li Qinwu fought off the Foot-washing Acolytes, killing them one by one despite their brutal attempts to bite and restrain him. He defeated the last attacker by jumping into the air and crushing the man’s head against the ground with his buttocks.

  • Li Qinwu killed several Foot-washing Acolytes with throws, kicks, punches, and Twin Winds Piercing the Ears.
  • The last few acolytes swarmed Li Qinwu and bit him across his body.
  • Li Qinwu crushed one acolyte’s head, killed another by driving his fingers into the man’s eyes, and tore apart two more attackers.
