Background

Kicho was born into the Hyuga main family as the daughter of elder Hyuga Hideto. Despite her princess-like appearance, she was raised as a weapon in the Hyuga Clan's militarized culture and became an experienced executioner with exceptional Byakugan mastery at a young age. She accepted her arranged marriage to Oda Yayoi as her duty to the clan. 6

Before sending her to the Land of Night, Hideto gave her the Spirit Blade Kumokiri and ordered her to win Yayoi's favor, then kill him if he ceased to benefit the Hyuga. Kicho accepted the weapon but implied that it might one day be turned against Hideto instead. 6

An assassin destroyed Kicho's carriage during her wedding escort, bypassing both Byakugan and Aburame insect detection. Kicho reacted without panic, escaped the blast, and parried the attacker with Kumokiri, demonstrating that she had been trained not to depend solely on her eyes. 7

Life in the Land of Night gradually freed Kicho from the role imposed on her by the Hyuga. After an initial period of indulgence and emotional recovery, she resumed training with a clearer sense of self and came to regard Yayoi's household as her sanctuary and true home. 13 14
