Yu He Clinic's rear courtyard, side room.
"Sir, Scarface and the other two went into the clinic across the street. They still haven't come out."
The waiter said worriedly.
"Could they have cured Scarface?"
"Tea. Pour the tea!" Yu He lay in a rocking chair and tilted his head.
The waiter hurriedly poured him a cup of tea.
Yu He held the teacup, utterly composed.
"To cure Brand Poison, nothing less than three-hundred-year-old Snow Ginseng will do. Such a heavenly treasure is priceless and unavailable; money can't buy it."
He took a light sip of tea and spoke leisurely.
"Even if I hadn't triggered the Brand Poison in his body, it would have flared up within two months.
"I merely made him put his remaining value to use before he died."
The waiter asked, "Could that brat Jiede from across the street have seen through it?"
"Hmph. That whelp is still far too green."
Yu He smiled faintly, as though he were discussing something utterly insignificant.
"Mm, even if they did see through it, what could they do?
"What proof would they have that I did it?
"That Scarface won't live past tonight.
"Tomorrow, there'll only be one more cold corpse on their sickbed. Then we'll stir up public opinion and blow this whole matter up..."
Brimming with confidence, Yu He laid out the details of his plan.
Boom—!
Just then, an earth-shattering blast came from the clinic.
The tremendous shockwave forcibly blew the door off the room where Yu He was.
Caught off guard, Yu He and the waiter were both thrown to the ground by the blast.
"What happened?"
Yu He climbed up, utterly bewildered.
The waiter was still shaken. Through the doorway, he looked outside.
Under the moonlight, the clinic had completely collapsed into ruins. Flames occasionally burst from the cracks, while thick smoke carried the scorched smell of medicinal herbs.
"My clinic, my herbs! Ah!"
Yu He let out a miserable cry and rushed outside.
"Damn it, what the hell happened? My life's work..."
Pfft—!
Yu He felt his chest tighten, then suddenly threw back his head and spat out a mouthful of old blood before collapsing unconscious.
Across the street at Lu Cheng Clinic, Yellow Hair and Red Hair looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"Nicely done."
"As expected of the boss. That's incredible."
Liu Luo kicked them both from behind. "What boss? What does that have to do with us?"
"Right, right, right. Their clinic just happened to collapse, then it just happened to catch fire..."
This little boss of his was ruthless enough—and underhanded enough.
Liu Luo secretly nodded, feeling relieved.
That was for the best. He had been afraid that the person he would serve for the next five years might be softhearted.
He was a man who lived with his blade at his throat; he couldn't stand people like that.
The next day, the city lord's guards investigated and questioned everyone, but ultimately found nothing.
They could only conclude that it had been an attack by an evil soul master. Fortunately, no one had been injured or killed.
Yu He lay on a sickbed. His originally pale face was now terrifyingly white.
"Cough... evil soul master..."
Yu He spat out another mouthful of old blood. "No, it definitely wasn't an evil soul master."
"Sir, I saw Scarface this morning. He's still alive, and he looked quite well. He didn't look like he was about to die."
The waiter complained.
"Heh heh heh!"
"Sir, do you think they did it? That Scarface?"
The waiter continued analyzing.
"But how did they do it? How did they destroy our clinic..."
"Waaah..."
"Sir, should we take revenge?"
"..."
"Sir? Sir, what's wrong..."
Who would have thought that an incident which shook Notting City
had been the work of a bear cub and a bundle of explosives.
Later, everyone learned from the waiter that Yu He had died.
"Big Bear, stay close. We're going to the candy shop today. I'll treat you to some candy."
Jiede walked ahead while the little bear cub hurried after him, bouncing along adorably.
Inside the candy shop.
Huo Wu was carefully choosing candies.
"Sister Huo Wu, pick whatever you like. Even buying the whole shop would be no problem."
Feng Xiaotian said eagerly.
Huo Wu glanced at him. "No need. I have my own money."
"Oh, what a coincidence."
Jiede walked in and greeted them with a smile.
"Brother Jiede, you're here to buy candy too?" Feng Xiaotian asked warmly.
"Uh, sort of."
Wang Sheng's father, Wang Bubai, raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
"Pick whatever you want. It's on me. Get the most expensive kind; don't stand on ceremony."
Jiede swept out an arm, brimming with generosity.
Huo Wu widened her eyes and stared at him in disbelief. "You cheapskate, why are you being so generous today?"
"What are you talking about? Am I a stingy person?"
Jiede denied it righteously, then pointed at the candy on the shelf.
"Here, bring me that biggest lollipop."
Without a word, Wang Bubai did as he was told.
Jiede took the lollipop and tossed it directly to the little bear cub.
"Here, eat it!"
The little bear cub was overjoyed. It made two happy little sounds, stuffed the lollipop straight into its mouth without even unwrapping it, and chewed enthusiastically.
Seeing that Jiede was even giving candy to a bear, Huo Wu didn't hold back either and asked for the most expensive lollipop.
The moment Huo Wu put the lollipop in her mouth, Wang Bubai extended a hand toward her.
"Pay up," Huo Wu said.
"Yeah, you pay," Jiede said, blinking.
Huo Wu was dumbfounded. "No, big brother, weren't you treating me to this candy?"
"Yeah, I'm treating you. You pay. Is there a problem?" Jiede asked in return.
Huo Wu was rendered speechless. She stared at him, her cheeks puffed up with anger as a faint layer of fire energy gathered around her fists.
"Wow, so cute. Sister Huo Wu is adorable even when she's angry." Feng Xiaotian praised her sincerely.
Huo Wu turned and glared at him.
Feng Xiaotian shrank back. "I'll pay for it."
"That one, that one, and that one... Wrap them all up for me."
Feng Xiaotian grandly waved his hand, bought a huge bag of candy, and stuffed it into Huo Wu's hands.
Huo Wu froze. "If you eat that much, you'll get cavities."
Having finished its lollipop, the little bear cub was still unsatisfied. It stared at the bag of candy in Huo Wu's hands and came closer.
"Here, have some."
Huo Wu had no resistance to the fluffy little bear cub and stuffed several handfuls of candy into its paws.
The three of them squatted there and played with the little bear cub for a while before preparing to leave.
Wang Bubai spoke up at just the right moment.
"Young master, take care!"
Huo Wu and Feng Xiaotian came to a dead stop.
"What did he say? Young master?" Feng Xiaotian's neck stiffened.
Huo Wu turned and fixed Jiede with a hard stare. "This candy shop belongs to your family?"
"Yeah." Jiede's eyes were clear and innocent.
"Then why didn't you say so earlier?"
"You didn't ask."
Neither Huo Wu nor Feng Xiaotian said another word. They trudged along in silence, and even the lollipop in Huo Wu's mouth no longer tasted sweet.
Feng Xiaotian felt as if something had appeared on the tip of his nose: a red clown ball.
What did Huo Wu and I just do?
I bought his candy, then used it to treat his bear cub?
After returning to the clinic, Huo Wu entered her room and punched the wall.
"Damn it, that bastard! I'm so mad! I need to go beat him up!"
But after thinking it over, she lowered her clenched fist again.
"No, I need to endure it. I still need him to refine pills for me."
With her usual temper, she would have already started beating someone up.
"I'll endure it!!"
"Brother Jiede, wasn't that a little too much?"
Feng Xiaotian looked at Jiede helplessly.
"Oh? What's wrong with it?"
Jiede asked in confusion, "I sold candy, you bought Huo Wu candy, and then we used the candy to feed the bear. Look how happily Huo Wu is smiling."
