"Sea King City has a treasure called the Yin-Yang Mirror! When this mirror shines upon someone, it can divide them into a Good Self and an Evil Self!" the old man said.
With that explanation, Jiang Ming understood.
"You're no ordinary person. No wonder when I looked at you before, I felt your body was far too incomplete, with its decline absurdly severe!" Jiang Ming said.
The old man took a drag of his cigarette. "I was merely crippled."
"Are you the Good Self or the Evil Self now?" Jiang Ming asked.
"Does that matter?"
Jiang Ming shook his head.
"Neither the Good Self nor the Evil Self can suffer an accident. Before long, I'll die too!"
Jiang Ming frowned.
"Our Hai Clan used to be the lords of Sea King City. As for why we fell into ruin, there's no need to mention it. We were hunted here by our enemies. Little Fish's parents were beaten to death because of this as well." The old man sighed.
"Everyone says our Hai Clan possesses an unparalleled divine artifact, but in truth, there is only this Yin-Yang Mirror. Other than dividing someone into a Good Self and an Evil Self, it has no other use." As he spoke, the old man took out a black mirror.
"This is the Yin-Yang Mirror?" Jiang Ming asked curiously.
The old man tossed the Yin-Yang Mirror to Jiang Ming. Jiang Ming caught it and looked at him with confusion.
"I don't have much time left. The Yin-Yang Mirror is yours. I'll have to trouble you to look after Little Fish."
"I know the Imperial Clan of Central Province is surnamed Jiang. You'll most likely think little of this thing."
"No..." Jiang Ming said. "No problem."
"That's good." The old man revealed a relieved smile.
After saying that, the old man lowered his head and fell silent forever.
Jiang Ming pondered for a while before leaving the room. He was thinking about how to make Little Fish accept this.
That night, Little Fish did not enter the old man's room. Instead, she slept with Jiang Ming in another room.
Early the next morning,
"Brother, Grandpa won't respond to me. He keeps sleeping. Wuwu, he was never like this before. Does Grandpa not want Little Fish anymore?" Little Fish came to Jiang Ming, crying and sniffling.
Jiang Ming rubbed Little Fish's head and said gently, "He won't. Grandpa won't abandon you!"
"But Grandpa won't respond to me!" Little Fish's eyes brimmed with tears.
Jiang Ming picked Little Fish up, unsure what to say. "Grandpa is just dead. It's not that he's ignoring you."
"Dead?" Little Fish froze. Though she was young, she understood what death meant.
For a moment, tears streamed down her face without end.
Jiang Ming did not know how to comfort her, so he could only keep rubbing her head.
Who knew how long passed before the sobbing finally stopped.
Jiang Ming looked over and found that Little Fish had already fallen asleep. He placed her on the bed, stood up, and stretched. Fortunately, his clothes were waterproof and had not been soaked through by tears.
"Alas." Fourteen years old, raising a child, and he still had to go meet his fiancée.
Jiang Ming leaned back in the rattan chair by the doorway, taking out the Yin-Yang Mirror and examining it over and over. It was a black mirror with an incomparably smooth surface, no different from an ordinary mirror.
Jiang Ming held it and studied it repeatedly for half the day. Even after pouring spiritual power into it, there was no response whatsoever.
"The old man forgot to tell me how to use it." Jiang Ming stroked his chin.
Shaking his head, Jiang Ming gave up on figuring it out. He could take it back for an artifact refiner to study!
"Here it is!"
Jiang Ming looked up. Good heavens, five Nascent Souls and one Tribulation Transcendence!
The newcomers saw Jiang Ming as well. The leading Tribulation Transcendence asked, "Is there a little girl here?"
Jiang Ming nodded.
"Where is she?" the Tribulation Transcendence asked again.
Jiang Ming pointed at the house behind him.
"You know what's good for you!" the Tribulation Transcendence said coldly, striding toward the house.
Jiang Ming reached out to block him.
The Tribulation Transcendence's eyes widened. "You dare block me?"
A mere Nascent Soul dared to stop him?
"I don't dare!" Jiang Ming shook his head.
"I knew you wouldn't!" the Tribulation Transcendence snorted and reached out to shove Jiang Ming aside.
He failed to move him, which was rather awkward. Ever since breaking through to Tribulation Transcendence last month, he had not been this embarrassed in a long time.
The aura unique to a Tribulation Transcendence flickered around him. Though his superiors had instructed him not to make too big a fuss, it was clear there would be no peaceful resolution now.
Jiang Ming raised a brow. Sunfire ignited in his right hand, and he threw a punch at the Tribulation Transcendence.
Could someone who had become a Tribulation Transcendence be a fool? With lightning speed, he grabbed Jiang Ming's incoming flaming fist.
A smile curled across his lips as he was about to speak, when the searing flames scorched his palm.
Even with a Tribulation Transcendence body, his palm was burned to charcoal in an instant, and the smell of scorched flesh filled the air.
The five Nascent Souls behind him were shocked pale. They spread out and surrounded Jiang Ming.
As Sunfire continued to roast him, by the time the Tribulation Transcendence pulled his hand back, his entire palm was already ruined.
The Tribulation Transcendence asked in horror, "Who are you?"
How could a Nascent Soul possess such power?
"Me? You don't know me?" Jiang Ming asked in surprise.
The Tribulation Transcendence frowned at Jiang Ming, searching his mind through the prodigies of the Eastern Domain's major factions. None matched him. There was not a single one with Golden Eyes.
"I'm Reverse Butterfly!" Jiang Ming said.
Veins bulged on the Tribulation Transcendence's forehead as he roared, "Get him!"
The five Nascent Souls lunged at Jiang Ming together, all kinds of divine abilities and techniques bombarding him.
Jiang Ming's lips curled faintly. He raised his right hand and snapped his fingers, and violent Sun Power erupted from his body.
The surrounding air was filled with scorching particles. The heat twisted space itself, while every technique they released shattered beneath the Sun Power.
"Fiery Eyes!"
Jiang Ming's Golden Eyes lit up. Two golden beams shot out, instantly piercing through one Nascent Soul. Then his gaze shifted, and before the five Nascent Souls could evade, every one of them was pierced through. The Sunfire clinging to them roasted both their bodies and Nascent Souls.
They had nowhere to hide; screams rang out one after another.
"Thunder Shield!"
The Tribulation Transcendence condensed a shield from lightning power before him, colliding with Jiang Ming's Fiery Eyes.
For a moment, sparks flew in all directions, lightning flashed and thunder roared, thunder and fire intertwining.
The thunder-fire reaction triggered a terrifying explosion. The Tribulation Transcendence, standing right at the blast point, faced the might of thunder and fire head-on. He failed to react in time and was immediately left half-dead.
Jiang Ming had already flashed into the house at the very beginning, picked up Little Fish, and fled into the distance.
When the thunder and fire dispersed, the already dilapidated fishing village had vanished without a trace, leaving behind only a massive crater. Within it lay the severely wounded Tribulation Transcendence expert, barely clinging to life.
Jiang Ming returned and fired another Fiery Eyes attack, directly killing the Tribulation Transcendence. Looking at the scene before him, he was greatly surprised.
This power was nearly on par with an Imperial-tier Divine Ability.
Though it was also because the lightning technique's caster was a Tribulation Transcendence.
Jiang Ming silently apologized to the other innocent neighbors.
The massive explosion woke Little Fish. She was quite happy when she opened her eyes and saw Jiang Ming, but when she thought of Grandpa, her mood sank again.
"Little Fish, how about following Brother from now on?" Jiang Ming asked.
"Okay." Little Fish revealed a smile.
"Where is Brother's home?" Little Fish asked.
"Brother's home is in Central Province, but first, we need to find your sister-in-law."
"Brother already has a sister-in-law?"
"Huh?"
"She's your future sister-in-law, Brother's fiancée!"
"Oh!" Little Fish nodded, though it was unclear whether she understood.
