Background / History
Little Fish lived with her grandfather in a poor fishing village near East Sea City after losing both parents. Although her grandfather initially claimed they had been eaten by a sea demon, he later revealed that they were beaten to death in East Sea City; the deaths were connected to the Hai Clan being hunted after its fall from power 46 47 49.
She met Jiang Ming after he was stranded in the Eastern Sea. She trusted him immediately, called him “Big Brother,” and eagerly listened when he promised to take her to Central Province someday 46. Jiang Ming stayed at her family home, where he learned that her grandfather had only about two years left to live. He gave the old man a Resurrection Pill that restored his health and extended his lifespan by twenty years 47.
Jiang Ming later gave Little Fish a Golden Core designed to cleanse her body and replenish her nutrition without the pain of a stronger marrow-cleansing medicine. Her health improved noticeably, and she spent several peaceful days fishing, playing on the shore, and helping Jiang Ming distribute fish to the elderly villagers 47 48.
After a day visiting East Sea City with Jiang Ming, Little Fish’s grandfather apparently died at sea. His surviving counterpart explained that the Hai Clan’s Yin-Yang Mirror had divided him into Good and Evil Selves; before dying, he entrusted the mirror and Little Fish’s safety to Jiang Ming 48 49. When hostile cultivators came to seize her, Jiang Ming defended her, though the ensuing battle destroyed the fishing village. Little Fish then agreed to travel with him as his ward 49.
She accompanied Jiang Ming across the Eastern Sea, reunited with him through the Mother-Child Jade Pendant, and formed a close bond with Yue Wu during their voyage and stay on Eastern Extremity Island 51 52 55. Yue Wu cared for her throughout Jiang Ming’s two-year seclusion, after which Little Fish tearfully reunited with him 60. When Jiang Ming summoned Jiang Clan Saints to the island, she accepted his explanation that they were family rather than merely subordinates 61. Jiang Lingtian later invited her to return to the Jiang Clan, which she eagerly accepted 65.
Appearance
Little Fish was introduced as a small, undernourished five-year-old girl from Fishing Village. After taking the Golden Core, she became healthier and gained weight 46 48.
- Large eyes and a soft, childlike voice 46
- Initially described as thin enough to be “skin-and-bones” 48
- Her skin became fairer and more delicate after the Golden Core improved her condition 48
Personality
Little Fish is cheerful, trusting, and openly affectionate. Despite her isolated upbringing and family losses, she quickly accepts Jiang Ming as an older brother and finds joy in simple experiences such as fishing, flying, city markets, snacks, and toys 46 47 48.
She is obedient and compassionate, helping distribute food to elderly villagers and comforting Yue Wu when the latter grieves Uncle Luan’s death 47 53. She is also emotionally perceptive: although she wishes to remain near Jiang Ming, she believes his future wife should be someone properly matched to his standing and instead hopes to become his maid when she is older 58 59.
